So the Philly region is embracing their hero. No its not Westbrook, not Stalworth, its Garccccciiiiia.

They love him.

Watching the news today I saw that they sold out of the "official" Garcia Tee Shirts in which he is painted in Eagle green wearing a hoodie in a Rocky Balboa pose.

I'm not an Eagles fan but I do live out here in Philly, and I want one just on the sheer comedy of it all.

Def. the most fairweathered of fans (or should I say Fairfeathered) calling for Reid to be fired earlier this year and some saying Garcia is better than McNabb. In either case the shirts are a great marketing scheme for sure. :fishing:

I would have had a hernia laughing at this back in September. Jeff Garcia, darling of the Philly fans after leading them to a playoff win? Suuuuuurrrrre.

:fishing:

Garica's the underdog scrappy guy that overachieves and makes up for what he lacks in talent with guts. And lately, he's been winning like crazy and not making mistakes that hurt.

What fan base wouldn't go nuts for that?

I don't think anyone is questioning that. It's more a matter of questioning a fanbase that seemed to completely give up on their team once McNabb went down, instead of sticking with them through thick and thin. Pretty sure we could dig out some examples right here in the Shark Pool...

I thought he found it funny the fan base was cheering for Garcia now.

I guess I'm just not really sure what the point of the whole thing is, but it is pretty funny to picture Jeff Garcia striking a Rocky Balboa pose.

Also living in PHilly and also not an Eagles fan. I don't think Philly is even remotely a fair weather football town. They are very similar to Pittsburgh in that respect. I actually think the true hero in this town is Dawkins. People love that guy......

That's one way to phrase it. The loss of McNabb and the lack of a defensive presence made many of us give up. Philly couldn't stop anyone on the ground and the Eagles made Addai look like LT2. Then again, who expected the Giants and the Cowboys to implode in December either and the Eagles to beat Carolina in a shootout.

Garcia is the consummate professional QB, but he is also a journeyman and excels only in the perfect system for his style - a classic West Coast Offense.

But let's be real here, Philly - it isn't because of Garcia. It is Westbrook if any one individual, and moreover the defense that has lifted the Eagles to first in the division.

FYI. Just 'cause TO says he walks like a duck...I was at the Sunday game. (I won't commnet on the Eagles fanbase, other than :blackdot: ) And took notice of the jerseys in attendance. Out of a hundred, I'd say it was

65% Westy, 15% Dawkins, 10% McNabb, >% everyone else. Only Garcia Jersey I saw was someone with an old light green Jersey with a number 7 on the back and a piece of cloth with Garcia witten on it attached over what was there originally (Jaws?).

I'm guessing the numbers were slanted somewhat due to DM having been out of the limelight for a couple of months now.

I couldn't help thinking af where all the Garcia Jerseys and TShirts the local news said were flying out of the stores.

And the guy was absolutely KILLED in the media while with the 49ers and Lions. Garcia's always had the capability to be a very good (even great, at times) quarterback -- pair him up with decent, skilled personnel and you're going to win games.

What do you mean by Rocky Balboa pose? Does it show him "hitting" another man? Is he playing with his boss' meat?

DEPTFORD, N.J. - January 9, 2007 - Thousands of people lined up Tuesday night for a chance to get the autograph of Eagles quarterback Jeff Garcia.

"He's a fighter. He doesn't give up he gives everything he's got," said one fan.

Garcia's t-shirt is a red hot seller these days. Six hundred shirts were sold-out during his appearance at Forman Mills in Northeast Philadelphia.

The Eagles new star also signed autographs on the shirt or anything good and green.

Fans started lining up at 1:30 in the afternoon for the 7:00 appearance.

At $21 a pop, with a portion going to charity, the Garcia t's are as hot as the Eagles.

The manufacturer, American Marketing in Havertown, began making them right after Sunday night's Eagles win.

For a while this season, Eagles merchandise wasn't flying out the door, but that has certainly changed.

Garcia and the fans hope all the craziness does not stop on Saturday night.

"It's one game at a time I think anything is possible especially with how focused this team is," said Garcia.

Dude, don't act like Reid should be coach of the year. He was 5-5 with his superstar, multi-million dollar QB. The team only got better once he had enough sense to give the play calling to Marty and the defense started playing a little better. The truth is that the Eagles season SHOULD have been better than 10-6, but whatever.I'm just happy they're still alive in the playoffs.

He was on the Lions too.

I'm never making fun of Garcia again.

Shure he sounds gay as hell when he talks.

I always thought he enjoyed shower time more than anyone.

But I saw his fiance talking about him, and SHE IS FRIGGIN HOT.

Like I'll possibly never do that good for myself.

Im done talking ####.

So you aren't going to give Garcia any credit for the Eagles success after McNabb went down?

I'll give him some credit, absolutely - but read the bolded part....
i read that part already. westbrook has played great all season long. garcia being inserted as the quarterback, has breathed new life into the eagles. for one it's a nice story to see a good quarterback, who played on crappy teams and gotten hurt the last couple years, plus was reduced to a backup, step in for a very popular leader, and keep the team steaming along. for another, donovan going down may have been the best thing to happen to the eagles this year. they had to change their playcalling to suit garcia's strengths, but in doing so, hopefully they have seen that it would also better suit donovan. it makes the whole team better. basically garcia has been a great awakening for the eagles.

But for the poor folks who bought those (hopefully on clearance), that's a good re-use.
