Jermichael Finley owners (1 Viewer)

As a Jermichael Finley owner I was a little concerned about how limited Finley has been this whole offseason and now he seems to be dealing with an ankle injury. Do any other Finley owners feel like they may need backup plans for week 1? What is everyone expecting out of Finley?

Starting him with confidence, unless his status is doubtful or out. His ankle has had plenty of time to heal. They used him sparingly in preseason as a precaution since he is coming off his knee injury. He has had some of his biggest games in primetime, and the Saints safeties are nothing special.

As to starting him without confidence? I never understood that cliche comment.Either way, he will play, no way an ankle injury keeps him out after missing most of last year.

Way to make everyone panic, or tell everyone your panicing, either way.

Can we start a thread on everyones minor injury now?

I don't think you're going to need a backup plan going into week 1, but I wouldn't be surprised if one was needed after week 1 or somewhere down the line this season. Hopefully his ankle is almost 100%. At least it's an ankle not a knee....

purely precautionary.

Finley is going to be a HUGE part of the Packers this season, he doesn't need to "prove" it in practice... Better to rest then to aggravate.

Football players will ALWAYS have some sort of injury.

Wasn't he hurt in a game where he had a fair number of catches, yards and he scored. I believe it was week 3 so I am not sure he actually has missed anything or real importance. He will be fine

 You obviuosly know little about the Saints safetys. Malcolm Jenkins is one of the better safties in the league and one of the best players on that team. Roman harper is not so good in coverage.

It's pretty clear though that this guy is rarely ever going to stay healthy very long. That may be the biggest reason Green Bay lets him walk after the season.

how is that clear?
He missed 3 games in '09 (his first year), most of last season, and despite a very low-impact training camp in which he was treated with kid gloves, he's already nicked up.To me, that's a clear indication he's an injury risk.

There are dozens of examples, both of players who were injured last year or not, that are witheld from pre season games, take it easy in practice or w/e. Its a precautionary move for GB, he's a top 3 TE if healthy with AR12 there and they should be taking it easy on him. Its not that uncommon for star players to miss preseason games and claim a hamstring strain or sore ankle etc. You are correct, he has been hurt in the past, but Im not convinced that what happened with him in 2010 can be attributed to him being "injury prone".

I love people who think like this, it lets good players drop year after year..Football players are injury prone. period. A runningback who runs high may be more injury prone than someone who runs behind their pads, but football players get hurt. At one time Andre Johnson was thought to be injury prone.

Packers Homer here. If my league started TEs, I'd start him with confidence. Rodgers looks to him an awful lot. I think the Packers offense will spread the ball around a lot and will go to the hot hands. That being said, I think Finley will be a favorite of Rodgers...he was last year prior to his injury.

I don't see the problem. I'm starting Ryan Matthews on sunday, I'm not confident about it though. The act of starting a player doesn't automatically mean you have confidence in them.

I'm starting Vick without confidence. What does that even mean, if he is on your team and your starting him, if you have no confidence, I think it shows how good of a fantasy owner you are not.

I'm concerned about any of my players getting hurt - no more or no less with Finley.
:goodposting: ...and thats why these threads take away from real discussion, cuz all it is is a guy looking for comfort in his players.

Especially since it has been nowhere that Finley is in jeopardy of not playing.

I am not looking for comfort for JF, I have other options that I'm dying to roll out over Finley on Thursday. I personally don't think his knee is as healthy as they would like it at this time (just a hunch) and with his ankle injury as well I wouldn't be to sad if he was sat for this Thursday game. Just looking to see if other people are having the same feelings about Finley, doesn't seem to be the case though. Thank god you're here to save the day and straighten everyone out! You're like a message board SUPERHERO!! I'm prob starting Graham regardless of the opinions here.

If you fail to understand this I think it shows a lot about your comprehension skills. Are you seriously trying to suggest that if you don't have 100% confidence in all of your starters every week you're a bad fantasy owner, gtfo. :lmao:

In all actuality, I did see a tweet that mentioned Finley was wearing a boot. Id say thats cause for concern, at that point in time, but the latest news: http://purplepantsgreenjersey.com/2011/09/05/jermichael-finley-im-healthy-and-ready-to-go/ Jermichael Finley: “I’m Healthy And Ready To Go”

All the WR's inclucding Finley were at practice (walk-thru) on Sunday, from the way I understand it. I admit that maybe NO will attempt to account for Finley, but Rodgers will move the ball & keep an eye open to feed the Beast.

Id almost go so far as to say this is one of the safest starts for Finley, GB has 4 other TE's and eventually we may see what they have. Finley is in a contract Season basically, and guys like DJ Williams need to learn, but nothing quite like live-fire training imo. NO will put points on the board, GB will need to go w what they know works!

The over/under on Thur game is I believe 47 points. Id say the money is on Finley, having a good game.

btw last yr in Atl first game vs. NO (Gonzo had 8/110/1)

p.s. who could you start otherwise? I mean if Finley is actice, it would appear he is a must start

I'm not concerned at all for week 1. He's good to go.

For the rest of the season, well... there is obviously more injury risk than normal with Finley. But, if you drafted him (like I have) then you should have made it a priority to get a good backup TE (Zach Miller for me).

I'm concerned...

Concerned that all the people that drafted Greg jennings are going to be really sad in a few weeks.

Finley IS the matchup that teams can't deal with and most teams, when forced to pick their poison, choose to take away the big play and make a team get yards in bits and pieces. Only problem in this case is that Finley is one of those guys that CAN make it a big play...and will..

If teams are putting a LB and safety on him (or either), its just a matter of time somewhere in a game where he either flattens or blows by the defender.

Gonna be a nice season for finley and a slightly disappointing one for people who took Jennings as a top 5-7 type WR.

 No problem bro.

Looks like the ankle wasn't bothering him, but the involvement of other GB receiving options has to bother us Finley owners.

Granted, it's only one game and if not for a TD saving tackle at the five, Finley scores and there is little discussion. But when he gets only 4 targets in a shootout and Jennings/Driver/Nelson all get 7 or 8, that's not what you want to see as a Finley owner.

The Saints doubled him all night and he still had an ok game. coulda/woulda/shoulda had a TD too, but oh well.

I'm not worried about him at all.

ETA: he had only 4 targets, but Rodgers was constantly looking his way. Only to move on to his next read when he saw Finley doubled.

Like Graham, Finley was a big part of the game plan in this game. Finley was also the focus of the DEF coverage as well. If you can get any discount on him because of his finishing stat line, trade for him in an instant. 2010 was a fluke injury and Finley will be more involved on a week-to-week basis than he was in week 1.

Agreed. Finley will probably be doubled a lot, so he's going to have to be able to fight through the double teams to get his. To Rodgers' credit, he's not going to force the ball to Finley when he has other options that can hurt opposing defenses.

The concern has less to do with Finley than it does with the number of other capable options in that offense. As long as he is at or near the front of the line for reads, he'll be fine.

teams will have to pick their poison...do they want to double finley and let Nelson, Driver, Jennings run wild? Finley will be fine. He had a couple terrific catches in heavy traffic. Rodgers looked his way frequently inside the 20.

Health is the only concern with Finley. Production is the only thing looking at the what the defense does and all the other targets around him.

Teams will stop double teaming Finley when they realize everyone else on the team will torch them as well.

exactly....if you double him and they still put up 40+ points...you might want to start looking at plan B. Teams will start to rotate doubles and Rodgers will exploit it.

I actually thought this was terrific as a finley owner because:

-He should have had a TD and that happens. He will get his over the year.

-Rodgers clearly showed he was ok with throwing to him no matter what the coverage.

-I think Rodgers was trying to get Driver his catch record at the end so going forward, that's not as much to compete with.

-Jennings' success and Nelson's success will no doubt have teams trying to do more agianst them in coming weeks to avoid the traditional big plays so Finley will have his options.

-On the final drive, Finley was the primary target that went to Kuhn but the Saints held him all the way (no flag).

Overall, I think finley is going to have some BIG weeks and Never be the forgotten man. On that team, with those oportunities each week, I can't ask for much more. Very happy with Finley and the reality is, had he scored on that one play last night where he was tackled at the 3 or whatever, there would be no "concern" thread; it would be a "Finley will dominate in 2011" thread. 3 yards isn't going to make me swing that far the other way in one week.

This is the kind of ignorant garbage that allowed me to get Jennings in 3 leagues.Even if Finley is the top option, Jennings is a stud in this offense. He and Rogers have chemistry and make adjustments mid play in some cases. Crazy that people don't yet realize that this offense can potentially support 4-5 weekly fantasy starters not counting Rogers. It's a new league boys, better adjust now!Finley will be fine. The Shark play is Starks. He will be killing a lot of clocks this year in the 4 qtr

If anything, Finley owners should be concerned about the potential emergence of Cobb. Just one more mouth to feed on that offense who could take targets away from Finley.

I am thinking just the opposite. Honestly, GB is not going to totally abandon the TE position just to go with 4 WR sets with Jennings, Nelson, Cobb and Driver. I am disappointed in Finley's numbers last night. However, I like that the NFL just got a glimpse of how great all of the GB WRs are in 2011. Driver is still a solid WR and Cobb is going to be a starter in due time. Teams will not be able to double Finley and leave Jennings, Nelson, and Cobb in one-on-one coverage. NO can score with GB. Most teams cannot.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE flag this post and let's review it at the end of the year. Its no secret at all that the Saints secondary has been exposed lately.Jennings is a fine player but ADP suggests overpaying for him to get him and that will show over the course of the season. So, Congratulations on your likely overpaying for Jennings in those three leagues...or...congratulations on playing in multiple leagues with very average FF'ers if you didn't overpay.

My opponent had him so I was watching him closely. After the first half, I was petrified because he looked unstoppable. However, it seemed like he was asked to stay in the backfield and block more in the second half than he was in the first. Was I seeing things, or was this the case? If I wasn't hallucinating, could this be part of an effort to make sure Starks sees the field more since his blocking isn't as strong as Grant's?

I agree. The Saints main focus was Finley, but that left the GB WRs to do well. It's going to be hard for teams to plan for GB in the future. They just have too many weapons to be covered. Finley will have some big games, and games like this one, but he is definitely a huge part of GB's offense.

If Findley owners are concerned, then non owners have a very nice buy low opportunity here. 1 game does not a season make. I am a buyer

PM Sent, but I would LOVE to wager against anyone that Jennings will once again finish in the top 15 at WR.#16 in 2007#6 in 2008#14 in 2009#4 in 2010Why is it so difficult to believe he will continue his success of the past 4 years this season? He is already 1/16 of the way there... :)
