In his testimony, McQueary testified that he did nothing to stop the rape other than to contact his father that night and Joe Paterno a day later. You don't participate in a cover-up and get benefits from that and then when your involvement comes out reap the benefits of being a whistleblower at the same time. The dude just wants to have a life after this, and I hate to be the one to tell him he won't. I'm sure a PSU booster cuts him a huge check on the side to #### and not come out with a book at a later date.

There is no point to that, it's been gone over and over. Sandusky has been charged and will be punished. The fact that Paterno wasn't being punished (at the time) was reason for the ire of many. Once he was sacked, much of the attention turned to the coward McQueary. The Sandusky ratio is useless because he's been caught, is being punished and the feelings about him are universal, thus no need to talk much about him.

Tim, it's been pointed out several times in the thread that McQueary didn't say that he "put a stop to it".

I'm not a college football fan, totally agnostic, but live in the Delaware Valley area, so have always been aware of Joe Paterno and Penn State. I even saw him in the halls of my high school when he was on a recruiting trip and there was a buzz around the school that day. Outside of PSU alum/fans and their football rivals, a large majority of the people outraged by everything and everyone involved are likely in the same boat as me. There's no anti-PSU bias behind it. At all.

Exactly. I live in Florida and it's all about FSU, UF, UGA, the U, etc. Almost no one here cares about Penn State at all. Penn State football has a rich history but they have only occasionally been relevant for the last 2 decades. Why in the world would I have an anti-Penn State agenda? Hubris much? People are outraged because the behavior by people in positions of power at Penn State was deserving of outrage.

Never molested, thank God. But have seen the effects on many people who I've known. And have seen how the men who have done it have mostly been allowed to skate with no repercussions. Not sure why McQueary's recent actions are still being discussed. The guy is trying to have it both ways. You don't participate in a cover-up and get benefits from that and then when your involvement comes out reap the benefits of being a whistleblower at the same time. The dude just wants to have a life after this, and I hate to be the one to tell him he won't. I'm sure a PSU booster cuts him a huge check on the side to #### and not come out with a book at a later date.

Best case is he goes and coaches from some middle of nowhere juco and is never heard from again. Worst case someone makes him vanish.

Here's what I'm tired of: PSU supporters now complaining about this being a witch hunt against Joe Paterno (and the school) and not enough focus on Sandusky. These are the same people that want to point out what a pillar Joe Paterno was/is to the PSU community, how his 60 years of service has done yadda yadda yadda for the school, students, etc. so he desrves to be treated better, blah blah, blah.So, for someone so integral (and upstanding) to have this happen on "his watch" it is absolutely justifiable for him to be held accountable and the main lightning rod in the public and media's eyes.You can't have it both ways.

Here's what I'm tired of: People not recognizing that A LOT of this HAS been a witch hunt against Joe Paterno. (i.e. the whole "did he transfer his house to his wife" thing). Search the number of times Paterno's name has been mentioned vs. Sandusky's, and I think you'll see the point. And I was one of those people supporting Paterno, and while I get the firing (which I didn't earlier), I still think he deserved better than a phone call. The line that people have a hard time getting is that someone can be integral and upstanding and influence a university without having hard, defined, written power. It's like the Queen of England vs. the PM. The Queen is much more recognizable, and very well regarded, etc...but the Prime Minister has more real power in day-to-day affairs. Paterno, on paper, was JUST THE HEAD FOOTBALL COACH. Hell, one could even argue that even that was just a title as he hadn't REALLY coached for a while. Nowhere in PSU by-laws is it written that Joe Paterno can do whatever he wants. This isn't a black/white issue. Joe Paterno CAN be revered as a man with a great, moral history, AND a man who made one horrible mistake that undoubtedly tarnished that legacy. I AM a PSU alum, and if you ask me what I think about Paterno, I'd say exactly that...he's a GREAT man who made a HORRIBLE mistake. To try and strip the man of everything plays back into the witch hunt mentality.I think at this point, the PSU community has been kicked around in this thread enough that you're kind of beating a dead horse at this point. I haven't even commented on this aspect of this thread for several days because I think the point has been made.ETA: Ugh. Forget it. I don't even feel like discussing this aspect anymore.

We do not know exactly what he said to the grand jury. Will anyone other than the grand jury itself have access to his exact testimony to see exactly what he told them? Or is that all top secret private. What if he tesifies against sandusky, then would either side have access? What if the DA wants to bring him (mcqueary) up on charges, whould they have access?

Yes, the parties should have access to the transcript of his grand jury testimony. If there's a jury trial the grand jury testimony usually isn't admissible unless McQueary is dead/unavailable or if he testifies to something different and then it can be used to impeach him.
