Paterno's silence was as good as suppression in this case.I still think the point that this was institutional is still valid. Paterno was reporting it. He wasn't trying to suppress it.

I thought I blamed him for being unprepared?Stuart Scott ApologistI think Steve and Stuart were unprepared and would rather go home than talk about this fake riot.
Agreed, Sig...Not only will more people pop out from nowhere, but I who knows what Sandusky will say as far as the cover up to condemn PSU and try to get his sentence reduced (hopefully unsuccessfully)'Sigmund Bloom said:The more I think about this, the more I think this is going to get a LOT worse when people start to speak freely about what they knew while at PSU. Board didn't mention him. Not sure why the idiot reporters present didn't think to ask about him.'Tiger Fan said:Why can't they comment on McQueery's status?

That was a little weird. "the school president and football legend have been canned. We're still trying to sort out the wide receiver coach though."'Tiger Fan said:Why can't they comment on McQueery's status?
You're really going out on a limb on this one.Paterno made a mistake. A bad one. Although I feel 100X worse for all of the kids affected by that freak Sandusky, I still feel bad Paterno will go to his grave with this. A good man - life and legacy ruined. Bet he doesn't live long. Seriously. Big time depression.
It was the 2nd question. The Board said they couldn't comment on itBoard didn't mention him. Not sure why the idiot reporters present didn't think to ask about him.'Tiger Fan said:Why can't they comment on McQueery's status?

I think you're right Sig. I'm curious what ramifications this will have on all universities and their football programs. On a different note, they are crazy if they have McQueary on the sidelines for that game.-QG'Sigmund Bloom said:The more I think about this, the more I think this is going to get a LOT worse when people start to speak freely about what they knew while at PSU. They did. It was mentioned like 10 pages ago.Board didn't mention him. Not sure why the idiot reporters present didn't think to ask about him.'Tiger Fan said:Why can't they comment on McQueery's status?

Good question. There is probably more to this. I never liked mcqueary though. He was qb when i was there and both as a player and when i saw him at the bars i just thought he sucked. I was always surprised he was a coach.'Tiger Fan said:Why can't they comment on McQueery's status?
Yes, yes you can.Can you put hookers and blow on a credit card?
oh. missed that part.someone should ask David Stern about Paterno now.It was the 2nd question. The Board said they couldn't comment on itBoard didn't mention him. Not sure why the idiot reporters present didn't think to ask about him.'Tiger Fan said:Why can't they comment on McQueery's status?
Pretty sure he made a lot more than one mistake.Paterno made a mistake. A bad one. I think the gist of the quote was "there is no change in his status" or somethingThey did. It was mentioned like 10 pages ago.Board didn't mention him. Not sure why the idiot reporters present didn't think to ask about him.'Tiger Fan said:Why can't they comment on McQueery's status?![]()

Well they technically said they were not aware of a change in his status. It was the 2nd question. The Board said they couldn't comment on itBoard didn't mention him. Not sure why the idiot reporters present didn't think to ask about him.'Tiger Fan said:Why can't they comment on McQueery's status?
That's not what I just saw.Specifically answered no change in his status.Board didn't mention him. Not sure why the idiot reporters present didn't think to ask about him.'Tiger Fan said:Why can't they comment on McQueery's status?

Producer: Let's get the hell off this Penn State coverage! It's like a 1000 pound anchor in a 50 pound boat. Jeff! What do we have to switch to? Jeff: We could go to the pro bowler tour accident that broke a foot or to the NBA lockout thingProducer: ####! Why do I have to make this decision? This is a tough call.Jeff: Bowling brings more money in to ESPN but the NBA has rich black guys which a lot of people don't likeProducer: Dammit, go to the NBA coverage but someone ask David Stern about Paterno and the bowling tragedy.Jeff: Good call boss!Great segway ESPN
Was thinking the same thing. He will probably croak in a yr or two at most. Has to be gutwrenching that he didn't choose to do the right thing. Still, those kids never get over that. They have trust issues there whole life. Just sad.Paterno made a mistake. A bad one. Although I feel 100X worse for all of the kids affected by that freak Sandusky, I still feel bad Paterno will go to his grave with this. A good man - life and legacy ruined. Bet he doesn't live long. He seems to be in complete denial that something grave has happened under his watch, as he probably has been for at least a decade, which was essential for it continuing to happen for as long as it did. Also, he made more than a mistake. This wasn't about just that incident, it goes so so much deeper than that. I wonder if he'll ever publicly appear to be truly contrite and otherwise like a person who has truly grasped what happened here. I think right now he probably doesn't understand why people are making such a big deal about this.Paterno made a mistake. A bad one. Although I feel 100X worse for all of the kids affected by that freak Sandusky, I still feel bad Paterno will go to his grave with this. A good man - life and legacy ruined. Bet he doesn't live long. You're right here. The move was more about PR and what things were going to look like saturday than about wrongdoing.I guess the board doesn't really care about an assistant coach. JoePa is the face of the school.
Anyone buying into idea that #PennState players might boycott Saturday also believes they'll walk out on Tom Bradley. Won't happen.
I just want to repeat - the incident is horrible. Reading Victim 8 and the janitor's testimony is pretty horrible. Much more graphic. Much more damning. They keep repeating on ESPN that the testimony of Paterno and the Grad Student were both consistent. If you read the indictment, Paterno "reported 'disturbing' and 'innapropriate' conduct in the shower by Sandusky upon a young boy, as reported to him by a student or graduate student". Page 8. Shultz was the one who testified that it was wrestling and not sexual. What I am looking at is the same as that. Just a timeline.'jackdubl said:Well, in the link I posted, which is the official indictment published by the Attorney General, the Assistant testified that he told Paterno "what he had seen" and what he saw was very graphic. So if you have something that says he told Paterno something less than he had seen, I'd like to see that.'Hairy Snowman said:The testimonies of Paterno and the Grad Student are in a different document regarding Victim 2, who was never identified. They are both consistent. I will look for a pdf I can publish. You can't access the document I am looking at. And I was replying to an earlier post which said that the mother had called the police but was told to drop charges under Victim 1. I may have misunderstood the Police stopping investigating with dropping the charges.Edit to add: I published the same link earlier in the thread.'jackdubl said:Hey Hairy Snowman, please reread the indictment here: http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2011/1107/espn_e_Sandusky-Grand-Jury-Presentment.pdfYou keep getting everything wrong in it. It says nowhere that the Assistant Coach says he gave Paterno a watered down version of events. He actually says he told both the President and Paterno all the details that he saw. It's Paterno and the President who say he gave them watered down versions, and at least in the case of the President, the grand jury thought he was lying. The victim the assistant coach saw was never identified, so there was no mother to call the police, as you stated earlier. You are confusing that victim with another.Nor did i see where any mother was asked to drop the charges, as you state. Maybe you got that from somewhere else. The police department in several cases either failed to follow up or outright told the officers involved to stop investigating, which goes to how wired the town was.
fixedthis woman on CNN is clueless from either England or one of their former colonies.

They probably want to avoid a possible wrongful termination suit. Maybe this guy did more and was threatened to shut up or be fired by the brass in charge at that time. They probably want to speak with him and get his side of the story before casting him off.I guess the board doesn't really care about an assistant coach. JoePa is the face of the school.
nope, but not quite sure what the press conference is aboutSo is the lockout over?
I take it back, they're about to interview Dr. Phil about thisCNN and its anchor/reporters might not have the sports background, but they are covering this much better than ESPN isThey're covering it like a news story, not a sports story
