Also, keep in mind Joe is no longer under restriction to talk to the media. his story will come out and we will find out what his intentions role and what he was really told about the situation.

Joe is already saying somethings that he was not allowed to say. joe is a direct guy afraid of no one he will say what is on his mind. soon we will know more details.

The more I think about this, the more I think this is going to get a LOT worse when people start to speak freely about what they knew while at PSU. The culture that kept this under wraps for over a decade has been cracked, and when it crumbles, what we will see underneath will shock us.
Agreed, Sig...Not only will more people pop out from nowhere, but I who knows what Sandusky will say as far as the cover up to condemn PSU and try to get his sentence reduced (hopefully unsuccessfully)

Board didn't mention him. Not sure why the idiot reporters present didn't think to ask about him.

Paterno made a mistake. A bad one. Although I feel 100X worse for all of the kids affected by that freak Sandusky, I still feel bad Paterno will go to his grave with this. A good man - life and legacy ruined. Bet he doesn't live long. Seriously. Big time depression.

That was a little weird. "the school president and football legend have been canned. We're still trying to sort out the wide receiver coach though."

You're really going out on a limb on this one.

I think you're right Sig. I'm curious what ramifications this will have on all universities and their football programs. On a different note, they are crazy if they have McQueary on the sidelines for that game.-QG

Good question. There is probably more to this. I never liked mcqueary though. He was qb when i was there and both as a player and when i saw him at the bars i just thought he sucked. I was always surprised he was a coach.

Pretty sure he made a lot more than one mistake.

I will say, that was some, not undeserved, cold blooded ####

60+ yrs and you get handed an envelope with a phone # and when you call all you are told is "You are relieved of your duties"

That's some battlefield ####

Great segway ESPN
Producer: Let's get the hell off this Penn State coverage! It's like a 1000 pound anchor in a 50 pound boat. Jeff! What do we have to switch to? Jeff: We could go to the pro bowler tour accident that broke a foot or to the NBA lockout thingProducer: ####! Why do I have to make this decision? This is a tough call.Jeff: Bowling brings more money in to ESPN but the NBA has rich black guys which a lot of people don't likeProducer: Dammit, go to the NBA coverage but someone ask David Stern about Paterno and the bowling tragedy.Jeff: Good call boss!

Was thinking the same thing. He will probably croak in a yr or two at most. Has to be gutwrenching that he didn't choose to do the right thing. Still, those kids never get over that. They have trust issues there whole life. Just sad.

He seems to be in complete denial that something grave has happened under his watch, as he probably has been for at least a decade, which was essential for it continuing to happen for as long as it did. Also, he made more than a mistake. This wasn't about just that incident, it goes so so much deeper than that. I wonder if he'll ever publicly appear to be truly contrite and otherwise like a person who has truly grasped what happened here. I think right now he probably doesn't understand why people are making such a big deal about this.

Hey Hairy Snowman, please reread the indictment here: http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2011/1107/espn_e_Sandusky-Grand-Jury-Presentment.pdfYou keep getting everything wrong in it. It says nowhere that the Assistant Coach says he gave Paterno a watered down version of events. He actually says he told both the President and Paterno all the details that he saw. It's Paterno and the President who say he gave them watered down versions, and at least in the case of the President, the grand jury thought he was lying. The victim the assistant coach saw was never identified, so there was no mother to call the police, as you stated earlier. You are confusing that victim with another.Nor did i see where any mother was asked to drop the charges, as you state. Maybe you got that from somewhere else. The police department in several cases either failed to follow up or outright told the officers involved to stop investigating, which goes to how wired the town was.
The testimonies of Paterno and the Grad Student are in a different document regarding Victim 2, who was never identified. They are both consistent. I will look for a pdf I can publish. You can't access the document I am looking at. And I was replying to an earlier post which said that the mother had called the police but was told to drop charges under Victim 1. I may have misunderstood the Police stopping investigating with dropping the charges.Edit to add: I published the same link earlier in the thread.
Well, in the link I posted, which is the official indictment published by the Attorney General, the Assistant testified that he told Paterno "what he had seen" and what he saw was very graphic. So if you have something that says he told Paterno something less than he had seen, I'd like to see that.
I just want to repeat - the incident is horrible. Reading Victim 8 and the janitor's testimony is pretty horrible. Much more graphic. Much more damning. They keep repeating on ESPN that the testimony of Paterno and the Grad Student were both consistent. If you read the indictment, Paterno "reported 'disturbing' and 'innapropriate' conduct in the shower by Sandusky upon a young boy, as reported to him by a student or graduate student". Page 8. Shultz was the one who testified that it was wrestling and not sexual. What I am looking at is the same as that. Just a timeline.

CNN and its anchor/reporters might not have the sports background, but they are covering this much better than ESPN is

They're covering it like a news story, not a sports story

:lmao: @ Stu Scott trying to tie the only 3 game win streak by the Cavs a year ago to the current labor negotiation. that was pathetic and he clearly lost where he was going.

:lmao: at the non-functioning microphone

There's not much Joe can say without either: A) committing perjury, or B) looking like a child-rape-enabler.

So the AD is allowed to take voluntary leave. The witness has an unchanged status. The finance vp and head of psu police allowed to go back into retirement. And president spanier apparently was allowed to resign (based on the wording that the board and president spainer felt it was best that dr. Spanier no longer be president. But the guy there 61 years was fired outright immediately by phone call.

I guess the board doesn't really care about an assistant coach. JoePa is the face of the school.
They probably want to avoid a possible wrongful termination suit. Maybe this guy did more and was threatened to shut up or be fired by the brass in charge at that time. They probably want to speak with him and get his side of the story before casting him off.

:goodposting: "Tom Rinaldi, thank you for being on campus and missing every ounce of the story tonight."

"ESPN had four days to get reporters and camera five hours away. And it failed."

"Video without sound is still better than Stuart Scott asking unscripted questions."
