**Jets vs. Redskins** (1 Viewer)

Both Blaylock and Houston had over four yards per carry. Houston looks good, but he continues to have ball-security problems. Other than that, the offense just hasn't thrown the ball down the field. Hardly matters who plays QB if you throw swings and screens all day.
Well, OC Schottenhiemer did say that they wanted to get the short passing game and TOP part of the offense working before they opened it up, but I was surprised to see that they didn't try to establish some deep passing threat in this game. They are installing the offense incrementally, according to Schottenhiemer. The first week, the Jets bashers said it was because Pennington can't throw deep. Having gone to 7 TC practices, I must bow to their accumen..... and realize what I've seen at camp is a delusion. They are much better informed in a vacuum than I. The right side of the O line looks like a problem.... with SF cast off Clement getting the start at RT over Jones, but my guess is that this kid, Blanton, a monster rook will win the job outright. Kid is HUGE. He never let his man get anywhere near the QB (yes, it was against the Was 2nds) and he blew people off the line. Blanton looks very good to me. Moore at RG remains a weak point.

The Jets are clearly better than the Bills, but that's about it. Too many question marks at key positions. 6-10. But that's better than most expect I think.

Betts was the feature back tonight, and even the homers (Riggins) was questioning how well he'll be ready for Week 1. Again, the concern isn't the shoulder as of today, but a propensity for re-injury.
Just to be clear. Riggins was questioning how ready Portis would be, not Betts, correct? How did Betts look?

I heard Riggins pretty much said the Ben Graham sucked. didn't hear that myself, but one bad punt does not mahe a guy a bad punter. He alsoo reportedly said that the Clemems to Newhouse TD was a mistake.... claimed that Clemens was trying to throw the ball away, but Newhouse got "in the way". Is Riggo on drugs? Mind you, this is just what I've read regarding his announcing, not first hand.

Riggo was questioning CP, not Betts. They were talking of the ripple effect, though, as Betts was going to return kicks and that may be off now.

In general, the broadcasting crew of Mike Patrick and Riggins was average at best. There were a number of penalties that they didn't report, where the graphics on the screen said "Flag" and you could see the official throw the laundry, but there was no shot of the ref announcing the penalty or even Patrick reporting that a penalty had been called. Riggins spent way to much time plugging his new local radio show on a radio station owned by Dan Snyder, that also happens to broadcast the games on radio. So while I didn't hear Riggo make the statement you quoted, Rovers, it's entirely possible that he did. But he probably wasn't on drugs so much as liquored up. He never was a druggie, but he could put away the Johnny Walker.

Between Betts, Moss, Randle El and all the other chums they are trying out at returner I can't see how this will be much of a ripple or problem for the Skins.

Yeah, I think the arm-strength issue is a non-issue. Maybe they are installing the offense incrementally, and maybe we would have seen more of the offense if Pennington had been able to start the game. Actually, I thought that in game one the offense has a lot more shifts and different formations than the second game. Whatever - I don't know what areas the coaching staff was trying to work on and highlight. I disagree with you about the right side of the O-line. Clement and Jones are having a battle as Blanton grows into the position. I didn't notice that problems were happening specifically from that side. If anything, I thought that Jolley was exposed a couple of times, and the smaller RBs had some blitz-pickup issues. Other than that, Ramsey just doesn't have good pocket feel, and either rolls into the rush or overestimates how much time he has left to throw. When Bollinger came in and used his feet a couple of times, Washington suddenly became less aggressive about getting upfield againt him.
