He's not only worth a preemptive pickup but he might be worth starting this weekend. Either as a flex play with vereen as your rb2 or in favor of vereen. Vereen is sick and likely will play, but he might not be as effective. And belicheck wants to establish the ground game again this week vs Chicago. Gray is going to get every opportunity to seize the ridley role.

I can just see an 80 yard 2 td performance from gray this weekend.

Gray is ahead of both Brandon Bolden and James White. The 2012 UDFA out of Notre Dame was expected to have a bigger role than the three carries he got in Week 7, but the Patriots got absolutely dominated in time of possession and didn't want to challenge the Jets' elite run defense. In different game-flow situations, Gray could have a real role. He's worth adding in deeper formats.

Have you done a video analysis of Gray in college. On this run vs Pitt in 2011, he juked, broke a tackle and outran the secondary. But his NFL grade wasn't that high.

Let me clarify. When I say "he isn't special", I mean he is not running away with this job. Ridley was barely usable as a RB3/4 prior to the injury. He's nowhere close to Ridley IMO, so expecting him to be a serviceable fantasy RB is a long shot. A good stash in case he's a 1 in 1000 hit, but I like Bolden more as the games become more intense late in the season.

Bolden is a special teams guy... and it's pretty evident even with the minimal run game against the Jets.

It is kind of funny that we all keep going gaga over these Patriot UDFAs who not only fail to impress, but who crash and burn spectacularly. It's like we have this unwarranted faith in BB's acumen for spotting talent.

And BTW, I hardly exempt myself from that. Last year I drafted Thompkins and "Studfeld", even starting the latter in Week 1 over Jordan Cameron. This year I drafted White. And I just took a WW flier on Gray.

So the burden of proof is on the Verren owners with a rb with a usage and injury history to prove he is now a feature back/"man".

Aaron Rodgers didn't do anything his first couple years, but the his situation changed. The numbers you cited for Vereen were before his situation changed. We have exactly one game to look at NEs current RB situation (for Vereen AND Gray) and the FACTS from that game say Vereen is the main guy, and Gray isn't. Could that change? It's a thread discussing Jonas Gray. When poster or posters suggest that Gray will become the #1 RB & their only defense is "Vereen hasn't put up good points this year," or "Vereen can't carry the load," those points need to be discussed, because they aren't completely accurate, since Vereen was always sharing with Ridley.

I added Gray as a "let's see what he can do" type move. I'm not delusional enough to think that he's going to vault to the top of the depth chart, though.

When now comparing Vereen breaking out or becoming elite to a talent like Aaron Rodgers......I would point the BS meter directly at yourself. The Patriots know to be careful with him.....thus "occasional" rb1 numbers. I never suggested that Gray would ascend to rb1 status himself.....but a Bell/Bush type of split. Again, last years Blount production is all you need to know about BB's rb usage.

Maybe you should try to reading what I posted a little more carefully. When did I say Vereen was like Rodgers? When did I say he was elite? I said their SITUATIONS were similar, in that at one point, they were behind another player.

You have NO CLUE what the Patriots know or think, nor do I, nor do most reporters. That's one of the reasons there is unpredictability (outside of Brady) with what NE players will be involved in the weekly game plan. If you are trying to pretend you know what BB thinks, you're delusional.

Aaron Rodgers didn't do anything his first couple years, but the his situation changed. The numbers you cited for Vereen were before his situation changed. We have exactly one game to look at NEs current RB situation (for Vereen AND Gray) and the FACTS from that game say Vereen is the main guy, and Gray isn't. Could that change? Absolutely, no one knows what BB will do, but trying to predict what he will do is speculation, not fact. The only FACTS we have about Vereen and Gray is that Gray is, at best, the #2, right now.And your belief that the "burden of proof" is on Vereen owners is ludicrous. The RB who has demonstrated that he can put up RB1 numbers on several occasions has to prove that he can be a viable FF RB, while the RB who has 3 career carries for 12 yards is suddenly Joique Bell?

When now comparing Vereen breaking out or becoming elite to a talent like Aaron Rodgers......I would point the BS meter directly at yourself. The Patriots know to be careful with him.....thus "occasional" rb1 numbers. I never suggested that Gray would ascend to rb1 status himself.....but a Bell/Bush type of split. Again, last years Blount production is all you need to know about BB's rb usage.

I said their SITUATIONS were similar, in that at one point, they were behind another player. You have NO CLUE what the Patriots know or think, nor do I, nor do most reporters. That's one of the reasons there is unpredictability (outside of Brady) with what NE players will be involved in the weekly game plan. If you are trying to pretend you know what BB thinks, you're delusional.

Perhaps you should choose a player more carefully when discussing situations that change. Rodgers was drafted as the heir apparent to one of the greatest qb's in NFL history. Bell and Bush is much better IMHO

17,4,7,11,13,1,29.....Those are Vereens point totals first 7 games in my PPR league....pretty inconsistent and until last week unimpressiveShould I start quoting games missed and Blounts usage late last season....

The point is that the "facts" about Gray are insignificant right now......we know the usage history of Bolden and Vereen.....apparently White is not in the mix right now.

Gray is second on the depth chart and that can easily mean Joique Bell to Bush.....it is not Joseph Randle to Demarco Murray.
