I see it the same way, which is why I value his about the same as a pick in the top part of the rookie draft. Those guys may or may not be good players. We already know Blackmon is a good player.

I disagree, hes suspended and its his own fault. My league rules are a player can only be placed on FF IR if the player is on real IR. If the player is suspended then the FF owner has to suck it up.

His upside is pretty high, what would his value be if he wasn't a risk? Good player and two firsts or something like that. That is a good reason to acquire guys like this since all of fantasy is a risk anyways.

Bradley misses talks with Blackmon

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Jaguars coach Gus Bradley would like to be able to sit down with suspended receiver Justin Blackmon and have a conversation the way they did during Blackmon's early-season suspension in 2013.

But the two have had only minimal contact via text messages because NFL rules prohibit Blackmon from visiting the team's facility while serving an indefinite suspension for his third violation of the league's substance abuse policy.

"I wish I could have a more extended conversation with him," Bradley said Tuesday. "My feelings toward him haven't changed. I still care about him.

"To be able to sit down and visit with him, that part I miss."

That used to be a regular occurrence. They would sit down each week during the season and have conversations that sometimes lasted more than an hour. Most of those talks had nothing to do with football. But Bradley hasn't had any contact with Blackmon for several weeks.

Bradley had heard that Blackmon was back in Jacksonville and that was confirmed when he heard about Blackmon's early-morning, one-car accident on March 15.

The Jaguars are still unsure of Blackmon's availability for the 2014 season -- he will be able to petition NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for reinstatement before the season begins -- and the team is planning on being without him.

The Jaguars already added receiver Tandon Doss in free agency and Bradley said the team will likely draft at least one more receiver.

"It's something that we will address," Bradley said. "We looked at [Emmanuel] Sanders and didn't get him. Somewhere in those 11 picks, yeah, you'll probably see us take a wide receiver. We'll see. We've got to take best available."

If his rehab went well and he is clean then there's no real to be "relatively surprised" if he plays this year. Seems like he has a bigger problem than we are being led to believe.

Possible. Also possible that Caldwell is setting the expectation bar really low. If you say you weren't counting on him and he screws up again - no biggie, but if he screws up once you expect him back then players could take a motivational hit.

In a word: yes.

He was suspended indefinitely. There is no set time for his return.

It's not like they suspended him for a year.

The team isn't sure when he can even APPLY for reinstatement.

And when he applies, he might find out how long his suspension really is.

We have no idea how many failed tests there have been (although it would appear the minimum is at least four over his career).

Team has had no contact with him and I'm not sure if he's even in town right now.

I know what he did wasn't being responsible, I was referring to when he does pay his dept he should be able to drink just like every other player in the NFL. I'm pretty sure other players get drunk and are way over the legal limit.

Post 369. So, he can petition to Goodell to be reinstated but there are no guarantees he will be reinstated, thus you cant count on him.

Caldwell and Bradley cant say they are counting on him, if they do, then they are assuming the reinstatement is a given, thus influencing or drawing the ire of commish goodell. Its all lip service, we dont want to force goodells hand. Play their cards right, blackmon keeps his nose clean, and it will happen.

thats what I been pointing out in this thread for months, the deck is really stacked against him considering the substance their testing him for is available at every corner store on the street. If he wants to come back to the NFL hes gotta stay sober.

They can cut him 1 yr from when his suspension began, I think. Or maybe part of the terms of being suspended indef is that u can be cut anytime.

Again, there are many NFL players who don't stay sober, so why should Blackmon have to stay clean once he has paid his fines / suspensions? I know, it's in the NFL bargaining agreement. It is legal to drink for crying out loud, so I don't believe such harsh restrictions should be applied to Blackmon once he's paid his debt. They are setting him up for 100% failure. He should be able to drink socially once his suspension is over and fines are paid. Do they make Joe Smoe quit drinking after he pays his fines for a DUI? Why should the NFL be any different?

When you're governed by the NFL's CBA, and you have multiple DUIs this is how it goes. Not passing judgment -- it's just how it is.

He's one of the few guys who can become a difference maker so he has value, but there is a good shot he ends up worthless. He's an all or nothing gamble.

Isn't all this about booze? I thought booze was legal? If he has paid the penalties for past transgressions, how can they deny him something that is legal to everyone else in the NFL, especially if he drinks responsibly?

Those are the terms for any NFL suspension. He doesn't like it, complain to the union rep.

thats what I been pointing out in this thread for months, the deck is really stacked against him considering the substance their testing him for is available at every corner store on the street. If he wants to come back to the NFL hes gotta stay sober.

Again, there are many NFL players who don't stay sober, so why should Blackmon have to stay clean once he has paid his fines / suspensions? I know, it's in the NFL bargaining agreement. It is legal to drink for crying out loud, so I don't believe such harsh restrictions should be applied to Blackmon once he's paid his debt. They are setting him up for 100% failure. He should be able to drink socially once his suspension is over and fines are paid. Do they make Joe Smoe quit drinking after he pays his fines for a DUI? Why should the NFL be any different?

It's stupid and unfair, but it's in the CBA.

In FF I'd treat him the same way the Jags are treating him. Don't assume that he'll give you anything, but he's a nice luxury to have in your back pocket.

He's one of the few guys who can become a difference maker so he has value, but there is a good shot he ends up worthless. He's an all or nothing gamble.

I'd put it at close to 70% he becomes worthless. Sucks. He killed my team last year. I can't trade him for anything either.

It's completely possible (probable?) that Blackmon, (who couldn't stay clean for four weeks after his last suspension) has failed additional testing since being suspended. We wouldn't hear about it since there's no change to his NFL status but it would prevent him from being reinstated for a lengthy period.

How many get multiple DUIs in a short period of time like Justin did, believe it or not this is for the kids' own good. He was on a crash course to destruction and probably had no intention of seeking help until his job got taken away. Yes booze is legal but there should be a lot more restrictions on it... like if you get arrested for being intoxicated you shouldn't be allowed to purchase or consume it for 6 months.

The NFL and players agreed to these rules to clean up their image, playing for the NFL is a privilage not a right.

Why? No news is bad news with Blackmon. I'm waiting to see the day this thread is bumped with a news item talking about how Blackmon has a meeting scheduled with Goodell or how he's filed for reinstatement. We're gonna want to see a string of (positive) news blurbs on Blackmon over the next few months. If he has another bad incident (like if he was drinking in that accident he had a few weeks ago), he's basically droppable.

This is though for the FFPC though. I have him on a team and it really is rough to carry a wasted roster spot all year.

dont panic now. Hold him. If he comes back he will start for you. He's got tremendous talent. He's only 24 years old. Barring another incident with alcohol, he will play again in the NFL. Lots could happen but I a 100% certain he hasn't played his last down. I can't see Goodell doing any type of permanent ban unless Blackmon has another incident. I think he will mature and have a career like Brandon Marshall. It isn't going to come down to Goodell, it's going to come down to Blackmon. I think he rights the ship.

I'd trade him right now for a 2nd pick in this draft and be happy about it. He was fantastic when he played too. The odds are so stacked against him though.

I don't know they could get a 2 for him at this point. There is just too much risk involved. I think they get a 3 at best.
