Katrina (1 Viewer)

This makes the "worst case scenario" unlikely. We may be getting spared somewhat.
[Cable News Networks] You are WRONG! Noah's building another boat. They're doomed! Ignore this anti-Mayhem propaganda! [/Cable News Networks]

This reminds me of how I felt watching that golfer's plane fly across the country unpiloted.
But with 20,000 people on the plane.J
try thinking about what condition your house is in 200 miles away. im starting to combat it with beer now. actually getting quite toasty. why not?but im not smoking cigarettes!
Hang in there Tipsy. Best wishes for you and yours. Be glad you and your family are safe. I know you are glad.J

TS winds extend 100+miles from the center and look like they are just now getting to NO.

this is so depressing. my wife, son and i were just in NO a few weeks ago and had a blast. NO was really picking up a movie industry as well. many films were being shot there (that's why we were there) with the great architecture. i really hope Katrina spares the historic buildings and most importantly all life.

Maybe I'm being a bit selfish, but I'm a 27 year-old single guy, just got back from Pittsburgh for a wedding with a layover in Vegas, which was great. And I've yet to be to New Orleans.

Katrina, if you demolish New Orleans before I can make it there for Mardi Gras as a non-married free man, I will find a way to personify you and torture you for the rest of my days. It won't be pretty. You'll regret the day you were born a tropical depression. I have a sick imagination.
If you're 27 and haven't made it to New Orleans yet, that's on you.Sorry, tryign to lighten up a little.

J
:P exactly. I made sure to stop by New Orleans on my roadtrip this past summer. Happy as hell that I got to see this place and took a crap load of pictures, even moreso now with the impending disaster.

 as an architecture student I too am concerned about all the history and great spaces that are potentially going to be washed away.

Forget about CNN and FOX...they want New Orleans to be under water for 6 months...it's good news for them to cover. This storm no matter if it's 145-155-165 MPH winds, there will be a major storm surge ahead of it...there will be flooding, there will be debris that gets launched around and causes major damage...no matter where it comes ashore.Where is Anderson Cooper?

Flying debris rates only behind burning building in today's news world.

The Hurrican doc guy on TWC (Dr. Lyons) just said it would only take a cat 3 storm to overtake the levees and cause great damage. :no:J

That is not really true a very strong SLOW moving Cat 3 coming up the mouth of the river could top the levves and push water into the city

Maybe I am splitting hairs here but that is what the deal is

I read an article a bit ago about how even NO's ability to sustain a 3 is based on outdated data..I'm trying to remember and locate where I read it.

Thanks - the live feed is  .
Yeah, I've had this on for a bit now. It's refreshing to watch news with real concern about the well-being of people without the DUH DUH DUH!@#$ sensationalism.

Swells of 18-28 feet is what I heard earlier. A Category 4 is usually accompanied by 13-18 foot swells.

All joking aside I have been worried sick since friday night? I cant even remember anymore. All my family is gone OR in a very safe place( Mother and Stepdad are in a local hospital because he is essiantial personnel) I dont think I'm going to sleep for the next day or so

Aaron Brooks just threw a pick to the Aquafina delivery guy. Adjust your sheets.
Funny thing is I had that Aquafina delivery guy high on my list He ran a faster 40 then Clarrett. :lmao: Brooks said the football was wet.

Aaron Brown supposedly making a confession...

Says that they can be prone to hyperbole. But that this storm is yada, yada, yada.

Then, at the end of the tangent...

"As you know, we are not prone to hyperbole around here."

Think he heard the voice of a producer?
What channel?

that would be horrible to me too. while losing my house would suck, losing the city would be much worse. Yeah, are houses are the "bomb" so to speak. Living in a shotgun style house & never closing a door to a room. Or having the worst exterior for an house you could imagine, but having 12 foot ceilings, and hardwood floors you can see your reflection in.

Nawlins is a cool, cool town with great homes and business inside old homes. Its nothing like the french quarter most of yall see of Nawlins. Its about hoods & snowball stands. Its about how great a use for that old piece of garbage on Tchopotoulis Tip's has become. Its about sitting on your stoop talk "at" your neighbors. Its about blacks & whites living on the same street & going to the same schools, restaurants, and sitting next to each other on the streetcar.

New Orleans isn't anything like the French Quarter. Sure, thats a part of the city. But for anybody in the so called know, its about walking down the middle of maple street with a togo cocktail in your hand on the way to the Leaf to catch some Walter or Rebirth. Stopping by the fly and stumbling onto some friends having a crawfish boil for no other reason than it being a tuesday.

Figuring out what "Laissez les bons temps rouler!" means and living it. Thats New Orleans.

itll be ok man....we still gotta draft next weekend. :football: (obviously, Tipsy has gotten a little Tipsy now. We are on our 6th beer or so & drank a bit of wine too "Laissez les bons temps rouler!")

Let me be the 172nd person to wish our boys from southern LA and AL good luck. I'm setting my alarm for 3am so I don't miss any of the carnage at sunrise back east.

but im not smoking cigarettes!
you derserve one. think how much better you'd feel after just a couple drags. personally I wouldn't even consider it cheating considering the mess you're dealing with.DO IT!

Lets just see its wrath first. Plan after.

This is some scary stuff...something like this has never happened before, no one knows what do expect.I hope everyone in the area gets out safely.

I am seeing a LOT of insensitive remarks in this thread. There have been at least three reported posts. This is not cool, guys - be nice or don't say a damn word.My story is that a friend of mine is supposed to get married in New Orleans, where her entirte family lives, this Labor Day weekend. I was uable to attend, but I got free at the last minute and was supposed to fly down this Friday. She is, essentially, CANCELLING her wedding - 150 person wedding with 100 out of town guests - all of whom are having to cancel their plans. She left for New Orleans Saturday, and is now, essentially, evacuating with her family instead of getting married.I pray that in 2 days we won't be seeing 4 story buildings 2 stories under water. My prayers go out to my friend, her family, and all the residents of So. La.

Not entirely true. There have been three documented cases of class 5 hurricanes to hit US shores - Andrew being the most recent - and sometime around the turn of the century the french quarter was flooded due to a hurricane.IIRC, class 5 hurricane Camille erased a few towns off of the Southern Texas map.
