Fox News had on professor from LSU saying the city could easily be in an ATLANTIS type state for 90 days...Holy ####.
It was a professor form LSU coupled with Fox news so proceed with caution.
I've been saying that for a few days. Storm is still on track for a direct hit on NO. They're saying if the city flood even the Superdome field is going to be under water - hope they are ready to move almost 100,000 people up into the stands, boxes, and suites.Katrina is such a hot girl name. Shame it needed to be used on this storm.
Pretty ####### cool. Somebody said it before - it looks like The Day After Tomorrow - ####### huge.It is a little dated, but still an awesome photo taken at around 8am EDT this morning.
Warning: Don't download this on dialup. It is around 7mb.

New Orleans Not Walking on Sunshine in Katrina's Wake
etc.
i said yesterday this might not be the city killer, doug b. agreed. However, this one will if we get a direct hit. If it can just take a little jog to the east and brush along plaqumines, we might be spared. If not, we have no city to go back to. :(Sweet jeebus - it keeps getting worse. I work downtown, am I'm guessing I won't be back at work this week. I love new orleans more than any city in the world, and I just hope to god everything is going to be ok.
Obviously, safety is a priority, but on the economic side we have virtually zero industry outside of tourism, so this will be very drastic for our city.

DONT DO IT. JACKSON WILL EXPERIENCE HURRICANCE FORCE WINDS FOR SURE. I am positive your flight will be cancelled soon.Guys, anyone know how bad the weather gets as you get into land? I am supposed to fly to Jackson, MS early tomorrow morning, but I am going to cancel if there are sever warning s for Jackson.
Thanks,

Tipsy - you're in Pensecola, right? Have you and your family considered heading farther east and/or north. Seems unlikely now. New Orleans/Pass Christian/Gulfport are firmly in the crosshairs.Tipsy - you're in Pensecola, right? Have you and your family considered heading farther east and/or north. I imagine most are for graveyard corpses. When graveyards flood, the cakets tend to pop up. Ghoulish scenario that we will probably see a lot of.Having been born and raised in NO, I have a ton of folks over that way (some of which are here to shelter). I am praying for the best possible outcome for everyone on the coast. If it keeps going right now I am scared of what will happen in Pascagoula, which looks to be ground zero.
The most chilling thing I have heard - and this is firsthand - is that 50,000 body bags have been ordered by the NO coroner.
Car is still packed, but my moms house is light years safer than getting on the road right now. her husband is an enginereer/architect. He has poured concrete anchors with chains holding all four corners of this roof on. And it aint gonna jog anymore. New Orleans/Slidell are right in the path. :(Tipsy - you're in Pensecola, right? Yep. The path is not going to change much. I'm pretty much expecting that my wife and I will have nothing left other than the clothes on our back, seeing as our apartment is right on the lake in Slidell.Car is still packed, but my moms house is light years safer than getting on the road right now. her husband is an enginereer/architect. They dont bury the dead in NO - they are all above ground IIRC - the whole below sea level thing.I imagine most are for graveyard corpses. When graveyards flood, the cakets tend to pop up. You still in Mobile? If so, WHy?902mb = 4th lowest minimum pressure ever. Outside-doors are hard to close right now as it is.
biggest urban myth of this coveage. it started because of some crazy old guy reporter in the city my F.I.L. knows. Last chance is for a slight turn due north, toward a Pearl River-to-Pass Christian landfall. New Orleans would still get hammered, but it would be a significant reprieve. And it aint gonna jog anymore. New Orleans/Slidell are right in the path. :(
