Do you give out financial discounts whenever you screw up? Seems ####ty to expect it
Yes. Yes, we do. And most companies I worked for did as well. If you make a mistake, you try to rectify that mistake and keep your customer happy because they can always go somewhere else. I'm not asking for the world. And in all honesty, if they would have said something like "We'll pay for your shipping" which was probably $5, I would have been fine with that. All I wanted was something that showed they were trying to right their wrong.

 
I love Kohls and their in store customer service. If i have an issue with an online order, I just go to the store.

No I get why a company tries to offer crap to make a customer happy. I don't get why people expect money whenever a mistake occurs as if they are entitled to it. I've had orders messed up before and the person usually apologized and fixes the mistake. Why do they owe me money for that?

 
Have people really had so little electronic communication with large companies as still to expect personal service while dealing with a website? If I want to get a small issue resolved, I'll deal with a big companies website. If I feel like I need someone to go above and beyond, it has to be a personal interaction (phone call at the very least, face to face most likely).

I know that stinks and doesn't help resolve issues when you want to deal with an online interaction, but it is just reality IMO.

I have no prob how this went down from Kohl's end.

They are real good with returns for any reason (apparently my GF's lil brother gets shoes there, wears them for a few months and takes them back for a different new pair). Even if you don't have the receipt, if you bought it with a CC or Debit they can look up the transaction and refund you

No, probably not. But I think as consumers we have a crazy sense of entitlement anytime something goes slightly awry (and I'm totally guilty of this myself)... and I don't think you handled it correctly either.

You were inconvenienced by getting the wrong item... so this is like a catch in the the NFL... you have to "COMPLETE THE PROCESS" of the inconveniencing. That entails making a phone call or going to the store... complete the process of being fully inconvenienced and make a comment at the end and you'll get taken care of with a coupon or something nice to say "I'm sorry". Expecting to resolve this in a couple emails to your full satisfaction was naive.
I couldn't go to the store because the pillow was sold out. Even if I took the original back, I'd still have to order the pillow again online. I respect your opinion, but I'm not sure exactly how I messed up in this situation.
Like the guy I quoted said, and I just said in the last line of my last response: Expectation.

Expecting a personalized customer service experience with a big company via email. It's especially out of their hands once you say you're gonna keep it too. I wouldn't expect it to be their policy to automatically give a discount there.

IDK man, just edit the title to specify online and you've got no arguments from me.

But my experience, and the anecdotal experience from the people I know are so positive for Kohl's instore customer service policy I've gotta go down swinging for them (and I never shopped there prior to this year)

What they sell may be crappy... but their policy is hey, try that crap out, you don't want it? we'll take it back. Kohls cash!

Again, I'm not asking for 50% or anything crazy. I just wanted a small gesture that said, "Hey, our bad." How tough would it have been to say, "Sorry for the mistake on our part. As a way to make it up to you, I've gone ahead and comped the shipping charges for you."

let me tell you a story back in the day i was complaining to my old man about how i did not ever get what i wanted to christmas i probably got the wrong toy or something who knows i was a kid and a jerkalope one at that seems like a lot of road ago but anyhowl if you went downtown miliawaukay back then you could see fellas sleeping in the hvac vent areas around the churches where the hot air came out just to stay warm covered up with cardboard and whatever cloths they got at st vincents and i remember him telling me we might not have a lot but what we got is enough and asking me if i honestly thought i had anything to btich about sort of sunk in is all i am saying so i do not get great beer all that often but i still have something in the fridge but hey lets get back to fifty buck pillow problems take that to the bank brohans

The store should make things right by accepting the return and shipping the correct item at no cost. The "I'm sorry" part is irrelevant, completely worthless to me.

 
Didn't read the thread but here's my Kohl's experience from last month.

I ordered 2 big Nerf guns because they were Nerf guns. Order was for store pickup. Order was cancelled saying the items were recently sold. That's fine. It happens. I didn't complain. Just moved on.

Then I get an email from Kohl's two days later saying if I ordered them for shipping they would adjust the price to match the previous sales price and waive the shipping. I did this. The current price was about $40 more than the original price. I emailed them with the new order number as they requested and they responded saying they wouldn't adjust the price and it was too late to cancel the items.

Now I've been driving around with two big overpriced Nerf guns in my car for over a month since I haven't got a chance to take them back. I hate Kohl's. Worse than Best Buy.

So how can we help you?
I was thinking maybe calling my buddy who can get some Tomahawk missiles cheap. Or, maybe just trying to spread the word that Kohl's is crappy. I always threaten to company's that I'll go to Twitter to call them out on their terrible business, and usually no one calls me on it. But Kohl's did this time. And unfortunately I was all in with a 7/2 off suit. I don't have a Twitter account.

I honestly don't know what the next step is. Thought I'd come here for a brainstorm session. The power of the FFA might be able to come up with something to make them realize they messed with the wrong powerless guy. :angry:
Talk them into making an FFA account and then send them angry PMs?

Depends on the store / product, IMO.

If its a store / product that's making a ton of profit off of you, then I expect better customer service. For example, when you break an Orvis fishing rod, they will replace it for free. Why? Because they're making an insane amount of profit based solely on the name. Same goes for upscale sunglasses. I expect companies like this to do whatever it takes to keep you as a sucker that buys their overpriced wares.

I do not expect a company like Kohls/Walmart/etc to take an additional loss on any sale because its assumed they dont have as much profit built into the price. The pillow mfg may be making a nice profit on the product, but it wasnt their fault, and Kohl's is probably not making much more on this than they do any other item.

Have you ever ordered something online ($50 or under) and got the wrong thing? I've heard good things when that happens at Amazon, but from my experience it's typically been more of a hassle than it's worth to return when it happens with other online retailers.

Because they're making an insane amount of profit based solely on the name. Same goes for upscale sunglasses. I expect companies like this to do whatever it takes to keep you as a sucker that buys their overpriced wares.

I do not expect a company like Kohls/Walmart/etc to take an additional loss on any sale because its assumed they dont have as much profit built into the price. The pillow mfg may be making a nice profit on the product, but it wasnt their fault, and Kohl's is probably not making much more on this than they do any other item.

My whole thought process is if I'm paying you for a service, and you don't provide that service correctly, you should fix the problem with a discount. It just makes sense to me to do that. You promised something and you did not fulfill your promise. What if I was ordering for a birthday gift? And the error caused the gift not to be delivered in time. As a customer, I put my faith in your services. And you failed to meet your expected goal.

I have to say, I had no idea people were on the other side of this. It seems odd to me, but I guess I'm not in the majority?

I know that. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be accountable for their mistakes.

While I think a discount during a mix up is a great idea for a business to do, I don't expect it. I just expect them to fix the mix up. A discount is going above and beyond in my book. It would probably take a pretty severe screw up for me to actually ask for one.

Those places that do something extra to help make up for it, it definitely helps win some loyalty from me and I'm more likely to use them again in the future.
