Krista4's Beatles 1-25 List Thread! Count down will start Mon Feb 14 noon ET. Will take new lists til then... (1 Viewer)

I saw that!  That timing won't work for me or for my friend.  Not sure if that week would be awesome or horrible, anyway.  :)

prolly tilt towards horrible, imo - too many folks clogging up the lodgings & attractions, etc.

sorta like going to Salem 'round Halloween (i now make my annual pilgrimage in March).

hard pass

:lmao:   :lmao:   :lmao:

I took this picture shortly after moving to Seattle; one of my crowning achievements in parallel parking.
I am listening to the "NEW" album as I catch up on the thread, and "On My Way to Work" came on, and I loved the mental image of Paul heading to 3 Savile Row and this was the only spot and he had to have Krista park for him.

I think mine was from going to college in/near Boston.

I can't believe you drove in Lower Manhattan.  I never ventured into Manhattan driving.

I LOVE driving in Manhattan, and got to be quite good at it. Whenever we went to NYC concerts (I lived about 2 hours upstate), I'd always volunteer to drive. One of the first things I noticed upon moving to NC was how timid everyone here drives.

I don't drive timid.  :drive:  I don't run people off the road either, or at least I try not to. Sometimes I just don't see them in the blind spots.

Can you also parallel park on the left side of a one way street? For some reason I'm way better doing the usual right side than the left. ↔

I'm probably a little better on the right side just because I get more practice at it, but I'm confident in my left-side skills as well.

I didn't have a car when I lived there, so I can't say I ever tried.  The only time I was in a private vehicle in Manhattan was when a law school friend gave me a ride on his motorcycle (not a euphemism), and that was kinda terrifying.

Seattle would probably give the (non-simey) NC drivers a run for their money on timidity.  Or a verrryyyy slow, 5-10 MPH under the speed limit drive for their money.

On this date in 1968, the Beatles were in the studio recording one of the top-two favorites on my 2019 list, "Across The Universe."  Deciding they wanted someone to hit additional high notes on the ""Nothing's gonna change my world" part, Paul left the studio to see if they could recruit an Apple Scruff or two to assist in the recording.  Teenagers Lizzie Bravo and Gayleen Pease were recruited to do so, and while their voices weren't included in the "Let It Be" version, they show up on the No One's Gonna Change Our World charity version (which was the first one released) as well as other later releases such as Past Masters.  Hella cool.

I know 1's and my wife's family views the beatles as one piece of the holy trinity - them, Sinatra, and Springsteen. Therefore I am obligated to play along. Will someone please give me a primer on anything not on 1's. I'll spin a couple times then vote before the deadline.

One day, we're behind a slow dude, and my wife blurts out "he's driving with all his might". I love that line.

Woo-hoo!  As you're one of my favorite music drafters, I'm happy you're in.

I don't know if I understand the question.  Are you referring to the album "One" or something else?  If you mean the former, then the primer is...everything.  Getz posted the list of songs (206) at the beginning of the thread.  But I'm not sure if you're looking for something else.

:lmao:   I love it, too.  It's so positive and encouraging and hopeful.

That would be easy for just about any band not named The Beatles.  I know you’ve been participating in the LZ thread.  There’s about 50-60 worthy LZ songs for that top 25.  There’s double that for The Beatles.  The good news is that the average length of a Beatles song is probably half that of LZ so going through 120-200 songs isn’t as daunting as it may sound.

Yeah, and I think we can save him 8 minutes by saying he could skip Revolution 9!

ETA:  Also save 4 minutes by skipping 90% of the "na na nas" in Hey Jude.

that would be the "be all of be all" as a Beatles fan

 I'm good without ever hearing another na again. Would be awesome to experience live though.

I love Hey Jude but it's almost certainly 3-4 minutes too long. I ranked it thinking of how much I like the first part of the song but should have deducted some points for the lack of editing on it.

The only reason it doesn't make my top 10 is the na-nas.  It would be solidly in there with 50% fewer na-nas.  I kind of like that they were saying eff you to radio, though, by giving them a seven-minute song and daring them to play it and make it a hit.  They won.

On this date in 1967, the Beatles filmed the video for this fan* favorite.  Lies!  It's all lies!  John is not on Penny Lane during the filming!

gotta be 5°, wind/chill.

just wrapped up the hangover trot - 16 times around the track up at the HS (4 miles, it's a 1/4 mi. oval).

i never wear buds or any kinda listening gear when i'm out - hate to not be aware of each and every thing going on around me ... but i made the exception this morning, kicking whisky out will do these kinda things.

gotta be at least a mile walk there, then loosening up, then 2 laps of walking to acclimate before i begin the running.

had my Beatles Spotty going, and promised myself i would not skip 😁 yeah, i have the entirety of the catalog here, including side 2 of Yellow Submarine.

what can i say? was like running with my best childhood friend - it's colder than a witches teat, sure ... but it's a brilliantly gorgeous morning otherwise.

felt like i was running in an impressionist work of art - the stages of their recording career making such varying strokes - maybe i should've tried hallucinogenics at least once?

yes, i was "treated" to my fave, Good Day Sunshine 😅 i kinda resigned that happening as fait accompli as i was slipping into my gear ... let's just say i clocked my swiftest qtrs as it tortured me ears.

"Help!" is solidly my third favorite album of theirs - been leaning that way for some time, and the pop outta that platter is undeniable - yeah, gimme only 2 others above it (#2White, #1Revolver).

the muffled drum rolls at the tail end of "Mother Nature's Son" always hit me in spot no other recording ever did ... i find myself saying that about many of their songs, most notably John's wailing in ADitL, which still confounds me with all of it's incomparable agony.

pleased that 9 of my top 25 accompanied my trot (or was it 11?)  the wonders of the catalog never disappoint ... hell, even March of the Meanies was welcomed, wish i could say the same for GDS & Honey Don't

meh, why end on that note ^ they blessed all of us, you oughtta try them out some day.

🐐

Help! is an outstanding album and I love the first half.   It is strong.   Help! is the beginning of my favorite period of the Beatles and it starts a string of albums that makes the Beatles the greatest band ever.

These were the 2 biggest revelations for me in the original countdown

Just wanted to @ some people who haven't (as of a few days ago, at least) sent in a list and were either heavily involved in the 2019 thread, or submitted a list then, or both.  If you submitted one then, just dust it off, add two or more new songs from Let It Be like the rest of us have, and re-submit!  Deadline in one week.  :)

@Leroy Hoard @Atomic Punk(and Mrs. Punk) @Mister CIA @The Future Champs @Rustoleum@timschochet@DA RAIDERS@Kilgore Trout@ScottNorwood @munga30 @Big Blue Wrecking Crew @grateful zed @Nigel Tufnel @fatguyinalittlecoat @pecorino @Nick Vermeil @Yankee23Fan @zamboni @Alex P Keaton (mrs. keaton not invited due to love for Rocky Raccoon ;)  ) @Ted Lange as your Bartender and of course @wikkidpissah

And I'm still hoping for lists from @AAABatteries and @prosopis

BREAKING NEWS!  My mom has hers down to 38 songs.

Yeah the F-U play the song anyway is cool. Did radio stations maybe fade out early though? I don’t know how that worked back then. Instead it the same chorus over and over, some kind of musical interlude would pleased me more but who am I to give songwriting tips to The Beatles.

I’ve spent days cutting the last ~10.  I should have my list around Wednesday I think.

PenisHeadSpaceManInc still not giving a shipping date on Get Back, so it is looking like my OG list will go unedited.
