LaGarrette Blount (1 Viewer)

Remember week 3 when the hype about Blount picked up. At one point the TB RB coach hinted that he could be the goal line back moving forward. Then Kareem Huggins, the preseason darling, got healthy over their bye in week 4. In week 5 Ernest Graham got the goal line carry and one long run. Then in week 6 they decided to give Huggins a shot to see what he can do. Huggins blew out his knee and is out for the year. Many suspect that Graham will be the 1st and 2nd down back moving forward while Caddy is the 3rd down back since he can pickup blitzes. Now there's ominous news about the availability of Graham in week 7. Apparently he practiced Thursday but had a setback and didn't practice Friday. Even if active, Blount now has to compete with a declining Caddy and Graham on a gimpy hamstring. Against Stl I would think that he will get a shot. Maybe he takes it and run. With Starks getting all the hype. Maybe Blount is the one to stash for your 2nd half of 2010.

"Bucs RB/FB Earnest Graham (hamstring) was missing from the beginning of Friday's practice after returning on Thursday.

Graham may have encountered a setback on Thursday. He may be owned in deeper fantasy leagues, but he shouldn't be anywhere near starting lineups this week."

"Graham (hamstring) did not practice Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams, the Tampa Tribune reports.

Recommendation: "I'm really concerned about it," coach Raheem Morris said. "But we'll learn a little bit more about it on game day and we'll see where he is then." This sounds like a game-time decision, and since Graham is only a marginal flex play to begin with, this looks like risky situation for Week 7."

"Bucs RB/FB Earnest Graham (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Week 7 after missing Friday's practice.

The downgrade from full practice on Thursday to no practice on Friday isn't a good sign for Graham's chances. He'll be a game-time decision against the Rams, but fantasy owners should look elsewhere for a bye-week sleeper."

How is that blitz/pass protection coming along LaGarrette?

Good posting steelwind....some may need the reminder and I do think the (partial) breakout week is coming although absent a bestball format he would be hard to actually put in a lineup for now unless you had two guys out this week (maybe Greene/Tomlinson and Foster) or next when more byes there

He could get a goal line TD or some work this week in short yardage that would again make people take notice.

As far as the pass blocking - it ain't going to happen this year....BUT if he showed enough Blount could be the back on most downs with Caddy - still a better receiver AND blocker - playing on third downs.

That's what I was thinking as well. Blount on first and second down. Caddy comes in on third down for blitz pickup. Blount is still a wait and see approach. But if he does well week 7 the momentum will shift in his favor. Keep in mind TB already has a bye. So injured players like Graham will probably miss playing time to rest. I can't think of a better setup for Blount to seize the opportunity. If he also becomes the goal line back on 1st and 2nd downs, his stock will soar. Again Blount is a stash right now. But I think his stock is higher than Starks, who has gotten all the hype.

Just for the record......Bucs OL is pure garbage

You're right there. But maybe Blount can provide the smash mouth bouldozer RB they need.

"Bucs FB/RB Earnest Graham (hamstring) inactive for Week 7 against the Rams.

LeGarrette Blount becomes the favorite for short-yardage work as Cadillac Williams' backup. Other Bucs inactives: QB Rudy Carpenter, CB Elbert Mack, C Jeff Faine, OG Keydrick Vincent, TE Jerramy Stevens, DE Alex Magee, and DT Brian Price."

I am hampered by byes in one league this week. Decided to start Blount at flex over Mike Thomas with the announcements that Graham is inactive and Todd Bouman is starting at QB for JAX.

graham is out -- blount may be a potential flex play vs stl at home today
With the injuries to the Tampa backfield mounting, if Blount doesn't get at least goal line and short yardage duty today, then I'm guessing that he's too deep in the coaching staff's dog house to help anyone's fantasy team this year.

Good post, OP. There was a LOT of hype before Blount's senior season about how he'd be a top draft pick.

That said, I don't see it. Blount looks like a plodder.

This is actually a really good opportunity to see what he has to offer. They have limited options on offense to replace him with and he goes against a good, but not outstanding defense. As someone already mentioned, this week will tell us a lot about what we can expect from him. If he doesn't play much or plays like crap then we know to not waste a roster spot on him. If he looks modestly decent (which I think is the best case scenario) then owners can hold him.

If you are having to start him I know this doesn't provide any consolation, but I love weeks like this where a project on my roster gets a chance to show what he can do. I prefer that to wondering if he has anything to offer while there are other guys I might like to take a chance on witting on waivers. Clarity is good and this week should provide a little more regarding Blount's prospects.

Blount looking good on this drive. Showing some quick decision making and movement.

Unless its just because of the bad D.

Blount looks very good. He's at 10-73, and just had a 46-yarder called back where he spun out of the initial tackle and scampered down the sideline. He's been making extra yards on most of the carries.

:goodposting: 11-72 yds

2 carries for 63 yds called back on a hold and illegal block.

Could have been a huge breakout day, but the moderate stat-line might make him easier to acquire in waivers this week.

Gonna be hard for Morris to hand-off to Caddy with a straight face.

Good enough performance to step in front of Caddy.. Now lets see if he can keep up the good work...
Im assuming he still will be splitting time though if he can't pass block. As he didn't really get opportunities to pass block today, I'm going to assume they don't think he is ready for that. But he should see the majority of time on 1st and 2nd.

"Bucs coach Raheem Morris was noncommittal Sunday when asked about potential lineup changes in the backfield.

Morris did speak of having a "young and exciting team," indicating a preference for young players (LeGarrette Blount) over declining veterans (Cadillac Williams). "All of those things will be (decided) in time," said Morris. The second-year head coach did heap Blount with praise Sunday: "You can’t say enough about the young man. ... He runs hard, he runs resilient, he runs tough. He’s kind of a symbol of our football team.""

On the last TD pass to Caddy even though the ball was on the 1 yard line, the Bucs had to run pass plays in that situation since there was less than 1 min left in the game. I think if it were under normal circumstances Blount would have gotten a goal line carry.

Blount showed some good burst today plowing through defenders. Reminded me of Brandon Jacobs back in the day. Moving forward if they use him on 1st and 2nd downs and if they give him goal line carries then he will be a solid flex play moving forward.

He plays @Arizona this week. Anyone starting him in place of Rice, Hillis, Bradshaw, Forte, McCoy, or Turner? Or maybe even ahead of underperformers like Stewart, DeAngelo, Matthews, etc.?
I would certainly start him over the underperformers before guys like Rice, Bradshaw, McCoy and Turner...... But yea, im giving him a go over MB3. Really not a tough call.

He has certainly earned more playing time. I expect him to be the goal line back as well. With Turner, Forte, Bradshaw, Hillis, McCoy and Rice on byes Blount will be the top RB waiver add this week.

I can't believe that Blount could have had a 12 carry 118 yard day as he had a 46 yard run call back by a penalty. I also didn't think a 6ft 247lb running back can make a 46 yard run.

Rice, Bradshaw, McCoy, Turner, Forte, and Hillis are all on bye this week.
Well, then you arnt starting them in place of them really, as they wouldnt be able to start anyway. What you meant to ask is "Anyone starting him as a bye week filler? " Which is a totally different question.

Definitely makes a good Bradshaw fill in, especially with Arizona's weakness against the run this year. I could see a Torain v Indy-esqe game this coming week.

Tampa's looking like a team that needed some goal line power too, I think Blount will help them punch it in for sure the rest of the year.

I've never been 1 to buy into the "well he woulda had this long run if not for a penalty" crap. His 46 was all him, and the penalty was idiotic. Blount had already beaten the guy.

I am a Blount owner, and I am cautiously optimistic. After we were all on his jock during his bye week, we got deflated when he was inactive. The only reason he got in my lineup yesterday was that Graham was inactive. The backfield is still crowded, even with Hudgins out. We bought into the hype of him being the GL back, and then out of nowhere, Graham is the man. So where does this leave us now? Is Graham simply the odd man out? Or, is this gonna be an RBBC nightmare. Yesterday was proof that a Blount/Caddy mix would probably be very fruitful for Blount owners. A Blount/Graham/Caddy mix, not so much. Another plus, his schedule from here on out looks very nice!

Not only that but it appears to be effective for Tampa in real games. That is the most optimistic point to be made. TB went with just the 2 backs and won. Wasn't a convincing win but a W is like crack to a coach. He will do whatever worked to get that feeling back.

"LeGarrette Blount-RB-Buccaneers Oct. 25 - 12:15 pm et

LeGarrette Blount had "at least one good blitz pick-up" in Sunday's win over the Rams.

The more Blount improves in this regard, the more likely he is to take over as the Bucs' starting running back. Blount looked terrific in Week 7, picking up 72 yards on 11 carries and missing out on another 59 yards on two totes that were called back due to penalty."

"Cadillac Williams-RB-Buccaneers Oct. 25 - 12:27 pm et

Bucs offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Cadillac Williams is still important to the team as more than just a third-down back.

LeGarrette Blount looked good in Week 7 and seems poised to take over on most first and second downs, but Williams is still going to see his touches. Expect most of them to come on third down, though. His fantasy value is extremely limited."
