Las Vegas Raiders thread - ☠ Keep firin' 'em Pete, eventually it'll be you and the real culprit for family Christmas dinner at Allegiant ☠ (16 Viewers)

Wowzers on JPJ. We're done, son. Playoffs? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game!... Actually, I don't. JPJ missing will help that for sure, but God save Jeanty from the abuse that's coming.

So... Who is the next young bust of a QB for us to select come draft time?
Of the top prospects, probably Mendoza. I like him because he has 30 college starts, very accurate, mobile and he's a big dude 6'5", 225lbs.

Of the ones that could bee had a little later I like Mateer at Oklahoma. 32 starts, 6'1", 224 lbs and he can run. I wish he was more accurate but, he isn't terrible.

I think the Raiders could ruin both of their prospects by week 6, 2026.

Cold truth right here. Lots of work to do.
It is true but, the plan the Bears followed this offseason looks like a good template to follow.

They brought in three quality starters on their interior offensive line and it's had a very big impact. Caleb is playing a lot better than he will ever get credit for & Swift is having a strong season too.

I hope they attack the OL in free agency and get to #1 and grab Mendoza. His mobility will be a valuable asset but, maybe less so if they shore up the OL.

They shouldn't make any move that does not improve the OL and/or get them a better chance at the #1 QB.

They have to make a push on making tyler linderbaum the highest paid center. Just like Hudson back in 15 or 16. There are some decent FA guards availble too. There is depth at RT in the draft, they could get a decent prospect in the 2nd round. Then we'd have Miller, JPJ, Linderbaum, FA Guard, Rookie RT or Glaze. Maybe Glaze can move to Guard and do better if he's not one the edge, like Gallery. And of course a new O line coach.

10000% agree on rookie QB and OL investment all day and all night.

This D is good enough to win games.
I don't care if it's the Bengals defense, there's no moving forward without fixing the quarterback position and that necessitates fixing the offensive line too.
We’ve both been singing the same song for 2+ years…draft a rookie QB. At all costs we need to find our young franchise QB. And of course, make sure the OL isn’t a turnstile.

Seems these concepts are too advanced for the Raiders.

I can’t help but roll my eyes at these posts. Look for another vet retread to be signed, such as Murray. Davis doesn’t have patience to build a young coaching staff or develop QBs. LV has been a bottom feeder for over 20 years for a reason.

Please don’t bring truth, facts or recent history into this argument.

So we forgo a 5th round pick for Elandon Roberts. That's what our FO decided was a good idea. We had Germaine Pratt who was sucking just fine, but cut him and are now playing Roberts at the expense of getting that 5th rounder. Upgrading from the 53rd graded LB to the 48th, YAY.

now playing Roberts at the expense of getting that 5th rounder

Can you expound on this?
He's part of the comp pick formula. If he plays fewer than 25% of the snaps he doesn't cancel anything out. But because we cut Pratt (who wasn't part of the formula) and are playing Roberts so much, he's at 57% snap count so will almost certainly cancel out the 5th rounder we get from losing Spillane. He was at like 15% before we released Pratt.

The worst part is his contract is only a 7th round value, but since we don't have a 7th round comp pick it cancel out the next lowest - which is a 5th. We should just have kept Spillane if we weren't gonna net a pick out of it.

Cold and hard over here...

Q: Bigger need going into the draft? OL or QB and is it dependent on free agency?

Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell said it best when describing quarterbacks stating that organizations fail young quarterbacks before young quarterbacks fail the organization and that is no more true for any franchise then the Vikings who revived both Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones in one season. The Raiders right now do not have the support system for a young quarterback to be successful, and that starts with coaching down to an inconsistent OL which leads to poor run games and the receivers also struggling as well. The Raiders need to revamp a portion of their roster before adding a young quarterback into the fold and the goal should be setting them up for success longterm. That’s not saying the Raiders shouldn’t draft a QB if one is available but that QB may not need to see the field immediately instead of developing, learning, and finally getting his chance behind a better system around him. At the moment I would say that QB is a bigger need, but no rookie should be asked to play in this current iteration of the Raiders.

^^^Draft OL and OL and OL, year after year until they are strengths, then get a QB
Fixed. Geno was fine in Seattle and I'm convinced he's not the biggest problem here. No QB can be successful with our OL. We could have Lamb and Chase at WR and we wouldn't be able to use them. Exactly what I said about drafting Jeanty before the draft - if you can't cut the talent loose what's the point? Nothing works without blocking. Nothing.

I agree to a degree. It's easier to find OL help in free agency than QB help.

They could have chosen to beat the Bears to the punch on Dalman (3 years, $42 mil), Jonah Jackson (conditional 6th round pick) and Joe Thuney (4th round pick) and still acquired Geno and drafted Jeanty. I think this would look like a much better team if they had.

Who gets fired today? Clearly the change at the ST Coach position didn't bring the positive results they expected
I assume that was a joke but the reality is that firing anyone now is pointless. Why get rid of Grandpa or Graham? It’s not like this is a talented team that just needs coaching. The roster is still so void of talent. The o line is absolutely pitiful. WRs are awful. LB corp is lost and slow. Secondary is invisible. Geno is done. We have a great TE though!

This team is still years away from competing and I don’t think the last draft and offseason accomplished anything. Jeanty is a good but not great RB and is useless on this team.

It’s time to trade away Maxx. He is truly one of the greats but it is the right business move if LV wants to rebuild properly. I love his commitment but I’m sure he wants to know what the playoffs feel like. He’s not seeing the playoffs in LV.

Ideally, you never trade away a Maxx Crosby. You find a proper coaching and management staff to build around him for as long as he wants to be here. If he asks to be traded, different story, but ideally, that never happens with these types of players. This is not the same as unloading Jakobi & Meyers - don't let that desensitize the idea of trading Maxx.

To rebuild this team, you need to draft well - and prove you can consistently draft well, before getting rid of its very few elite pieces for draft picks.

How is Pete's first draft class doing?

100% a joke on my part. And a jab at a meaningless firing by the Raiders

With Patrick Graham... I listened to Lincoln Kennedy today. He said something that rings true to me that this isn't really PG's defense but more of a mix of him and what Carroll wants/does. That feels like a true statement to me though I haven't had the eye towards it to say I think it is true. The corner moves certainly hint towards it being true.

When the tv showed Davis in his box surrounded by women paying very little attention to the game, my first thought was what would his dad think?

Remember, Al used to sit alone scrutinizing every play and every player. Just saying…

It's not like Graham has been putting out quality defenses in his other six seasons as a DC in Miami, New York and Vegas.

ETA: not entirely fair 2020 in NY and 2023 in LV were both 9th in scoring. Still not impressed.

This is a must lose game

I almost liked this. But I couldn't do it, even though I agree with the general sentiment. I hope they fight tooth and nail for Maxx, and they win. I honestly care less about draft position than 99% out here. If you cure the draft selector problem, the position of the selections matters, but a lot less than most believe. If you don't cure the draft selector problem, the position of the selections doesn't matter at all.

Always, the Raiders say “you have a first time rookie QB? Or QB who just joined the team 3 days earlier? Or backup QB off the bench?
No problem. We’ve got you covered. Congrats in advance for your win”.

Glad they lost. Maybe the franchise could dissolve so we can all move on to other teams.

I’m thinking something off the beaten track. Panthers?

I'm sorry, but I take exception to this. I 100% agree they need to do right by Maxx and, they have... contractually.

If they want to do right by him on the field the right thing to do is trade him to a true contender for less than maximum market value (if that's what it takes to give him a chance at a ring).

Sending him somewhere he has a legitimate shot at getting a ring is how you do right by him.

That would be best for him and, best for the franchise. They need too much help in too many places to realistically become a contender during Maxx's career.

Get the #1 pick and either use it on a QB or trade it for a ton of picks and, trade Maxx for even more picks.

Yes, I know you will probably say something about having the right person making those picks. Whatever, we don't know if Spytek is that person or not but, you can't start the process without those picks and, it literally, not figuratively, cannot be worse than what we have now.

#FREEMAXX!!!

💯 💯 💯

Guaran-#######-teed loss in that situation.

Didn't they lose to Curtis Painter, or whatever, at home a couple years ago. That's the Raiders.

In case anyone thinks I'm saying all that with the virtue of hindsight.
