League Prize Money Question (1 Viewer)

Curious as to how other leagues payout prize money...... What % of the pot goes to the league champion? (ours is 1/3)

I've been thinking about this for a while now..... Most times the league championship game has players who were either no names or not on most rosters throughout the season.... (our past few super bowls have had names like these in the championship game: Greg Ward, DeAndre Washington, Mike Boone,  CJ Anderson, Tim Patrick, Josh Reynolds,  Jeremy Langford,  Bilal Powel, Karlos Williams, and the list goes on and on...) ..... I think winning a division or having the most total points in a season means more to me than winning the Super Bowl... That shows continued success and is much more difficult to do. I understand being the last one standing and having to have success to get to the postseason..... but when I look back at our Title game matchups... I literally laugh at some of the lineups....

I've been thinking about proposing upping the prize money for division winners and total points champion at the expense of the League Champion.... Just wanted to hear some thoughts on this... Maybe I am way out of line.. Who knows....

My oldest league (1992) views the season's total points winner as its champion. That's the name that goes on the trophy. We also have a Super Bowl as well as a weekly winner prize of $25. All of these run through week 17, including the weekly winner, so all teams could win something through the end of the regular season. The prizes are roughly $250 for the Super Bowl winner and $150 for the loser, and $350 for the total points winner with $250 going to second place. The total points winner also gets the WW pot, which can be $350-$450 typically. All drop/adds are $3. This year is going to be nice as the big four prizes will probably be won by four different teams.

Two tiered payout for long time league - 50% of league fee paid out to playoff teams.  The league champ usually takes home 50% of 3k in 12 team league.

I prefer more opportunities to win my entry fee back.

My last redraft league the commish made it so that the league champion won 2/3 of the winnings and regular season points leader won the other 1/3.

It becomes more luck than skill when you have so much money tied up in one or two opportunities to win. So I quit that league (also because the commish would take 6 months to pay me!!!)

I like the idea of division winners and total points at the expense of league champ

16 team contract league.

  • 10% each to 4 division winners plus points leader
  • 3% each to 4 wildcards
  • 3% each to 4 quarterfinal and 2 semifinal winners
  • 20% to playoff champ
12 team salary cap dynasty

  • 10% each to 3 division winners plus points leader
  • 4% each to 3 wildcards
  • 7% each to 2 first-round and 2 semifinal winners
  • 20% to playoff champ

12-team ($150 entry + $1 for every player acquired throughout the season)

40% 1st

25% 2nd

10% 3rd

5% 4th

5% for Scoring Title (Most Pts. Regular Season)

5% for each division winner (3 Divs)

Final Pot is everything (minus league site fee and $10 for "trophy" sticker - Our trophy is a real helmet that passes between champs)

It depends on if my league has 14 or 16 people, but the general rule is 1st gets almost half the pot, 2nd+3rd < 1st, and 3rd+4th < 2nd. A clear dichotomy has to exist between the Championship game and the 3rd place game. For instance this past season I was hoping to have 16 but lost two people and dropped to 14 teams:

Official Dues

14 people x $90 = $1,260 Pot
1st gets $615
2nd gets $362
3rd gets $204
4th gets $90 (get Buy-In back)

Old Dues
16 people x $90 = $1,440 Pot
1st gets 48.75% = $702
2nd gets 28.75% = $412
3rd gets 16.25% = $234
4th gets 6.25% = $90 (get Buy-In back)

14 team league. $100 entry

$600 to winner

$100 to runner up

$100 to total points winner

$200 to each of the two regular season division winners

$100 league fee (CBS)

$20 to Pride Bowl Winner

$80 to draft day food and drink.  Usually costs me closer to $200, for everything, which I absorb.  Just finished our 18th year.  6 originals left and most of the league is 10 plus years.  Draft is the only time I see about half of them anymore, so always a fun time.  Oddly, we have never raised the entry fee.

12 team PPR dynasty, 4 make the playoffs. Unique league made up of 3 fans of each of the NFC North teams, one in each of three divisions.

Entry is $50.

$600 pot split as follows:

$200 champ

$80 2nd

$50 3rd

$70 league website

$50 each for the fan of each NFC North team that finishes with most points thru week 16 amongst their rooting interest peers.

12 team PPR work redraft. 6 make the playoffs, 2 with first round byes. $25 entry.

Champ $150, 2nd $100, 3rd $50.

Dynasty league (flat rate, no transaction fees)

LCG winner gets 65%, LCG loser 25%, points leader 10%, single game in-season high score = $50. 3rd place gets league fees back (which pays for next season since it’s a flat rate free transaction league)

——————-

IDP league I commission (with transaction fees)

LCG winner 65%
LCG loser 25%
Points leader 10%

3rd place $100

4th place $75

AWB (butt-whoopin bonus) = $50

single game high score = $50

Loser Bowl champ (teams 5-12) = $75

We have a $25 entry fee and the entire $300 gets paid out based on regular season finish, high game, regular season points champ, consolation tourney, a guillotine contest and play-off wins, etc.  Plenty of ways to recoup entry fees.

All roster moves are $1 and that pool is split 75/25 between the champion and runner-up.

$200 entry, 12 teams

1st: $1100
2nd: $700
3rd: $200
Total Points (Weeks 1-16): $400

Winner of the Toilet Bowl gets an extra $10 in auction money in next year's draft.

We used to have more for 1st place but too many top seeds would lose in the first round so we moved more money to Total Points. In 5 years, we've never had a team win 1st place and Total Points in the same year.

Seems like winning the SB isnt a big deal in this league.

$70 Entry at MFL s $70 pays for league site fee, the remaining is as follows-

$300 SB Champ

$100 SB loser

$50 to 3rd place winner

$75 to 2 div winners.

$105 to Points champ (Wk 1-16)

$5 for weekly high score each week. (Wk 1-13)

Points to reward the good teams who achieve something of relevance, not give participation awards.

12 teamer

1st in league gets their money back

3rd in playoffs gets their money back

2nd in playoffs gets 3.3x the buy in

1st one the playoffs gets 6.6x the buy in

Do most leagues not charge for transactions? My two main leagues are $60 and $140 entry (12 and 10 teams).    With 5 dollar transactions I usually pay as much or more for pickups than I do league fee.

super bowl champ normally around $700 and $1200 for each.

also a little surprised on the leagues being light on money for the super bowl winner and all these little/equal payouts for other stuff.     Winning the super bowl is the whole point of doing this imo.
