LenDale White's Stock Falling? (1 Viewer)

It's kind of like the old saying, "it's better to be thought a fool (loafer), than open your mouth (show up) and prove it."

If the "conspiracy" is true, why didn't he just inform everyone a fews days before USC's pro day that he was not going to work out due to a tight hamstring?

People were giving Young and his handlers a hard time for not preparing to run at UT's pro day but then doing so without being prepared. At least that showed Young's competitive nature. This situation, on the other hand, is exactly the opposite. They look like idiots for not being prepared, half-assing it in front of the entire league and then blaming it on an injury.

And trust the league noticed. Sorry, 31 teams noticed and that lone, dark team hidden in the 20's worked hard to hide their excitement, as their plan came to fruition. If someone actually buys that story, I have a some magic beans I would like to sell you.

There are no guarantees until the ink is dry on the paper. For White to take a team's word about its draft plans is just as idiotic to me as the general sentiment that he need not stay in shape for Pro Day, etc.

I've been a White and USC fan, but I have to admit that he's falling in my estimation.

Kiper just said on Mike and Mike in the Morning that he is a mid-first rounder at best, but likely will fall to the late first round. Colts may end up get a shot at him after all so things may end up for the best for White after all, even though he will be losing a ton of dough in the process.

Beat me to the punch here. Kiper was that we see this every year so it shouldn't be a surprise, but it's still inexplicable when someone of White's caliber and potential earnings power phones in his one chance to lock up elite status.

I hope he falls straight to round 2 for the Packers.

not that i want him, or think denver needs him, i think there is a real chance that he comes to Denver. He's the type of player that will go between picks 14-25 based on reputation alone.

edit: spelling :bag:

Exactly. I'm pretty sure this is just spin from his agent to try to make something good come out of his client completely blowing it in the most crucial time of his life as of right now....

I still think White will be a very good pro, but he sure knows how to lose value, and money, in the draft. Stupid moves.

Was this article ever posted:

Lazy Lendale the next Clarett?

As the 2005 college football season was winding down, there were some outside observers of the USC team who believed a good case could be made that LenDale White was actually a better NFL prospect than teammate Reggie Bush, Heisman Trophy aside.

On Sunday, any such argument disappeared as Bush put on a fine performance during the school’s annual pro day for NFL scouts. The only thing fine that White did was dining with the Carolina Panthers on Saturday night.

Story continues below ↓ advertisement

White weighed in at 244 pounds, up six pounds from the doughy 238 pounds he displayed at the NFL scouting combine in February. White also did his best not to display much by wearing a loose-fitting warm-up suit for the entire workout. This was after White drew audible groans from NFL scouts when he bared his chest at the combine.

As one NFL general manager said after seeing White at the combine: “The guy needed a bra, it was ridiculous. You come to the combine looking like that and you want to be a first-round pick? Come on. The guy had obviously been doing nothing.”

On Sunday, White benched 225 pounds all of 15 times. That’s one more than USC punter Tom Malone and nine less than Bush, who White happens to outweigh by 42 pounds. After doing the bench, White called it a day. He didn’t run the 40-yard dash or do any of the other myriad of drills that so many scouts and coaches were looking forward to.

Perhaps this is why so many people are now thinking of White in company with Maurice Clarett than with Bush.

“We had one of our scouts go up and ask him what was going on (after White didn’t run),” another executive said. “The kid said his hamstring was tight or something like that. Then we tried to find out when he was going to run and he didn’t know. It didn’t even sound like he was going to run. What does this kid think?”

This, of course, is why you never heard the argument for White over Bush coming out of USC (unless it was White’s mom or dad saying it). Bush put on his show for the scouts on Sunday, running anywhere between a 4.33 to a 4.40 in the 40-yard. Bush did the aforementioned 24 reps and everything else was in order.

Three scouts and coaches who saw him said Bush didn’t do anything to hurt himself, and the notion that he might fall from the top spot in the draft seemed far-fetched. While it’s possible that Houston will trade out of the No. 1 spot, the thought is that it’s only because they will get a great offer. Not because Bush didn’t impress them.

But the point in all of this is that Bush took care of his business when he could have been the one living off his body of work the past two years. White did not. In fact, he showed to NFL people what so many people at USC have seen since he got there.

Lots of ability. Little work ethic.

The guy can play, but he just gets by,” said a former USC offensive player who was teammates with White. “He coasted in practice and he coasted in the offseason. He came in thinking he just had to put in his time and that’s what you see now. People think he’s great and the talent is there … but the stuff he did was just because he played next to Reggie and with all those other guys around him. If he had really worked at it, he would have been amazing.”

Now that White is a Titan, are people more concerned with his less than stellar attitude? The Titans don't exactly have model citizens in the lockerroom.

Any chance the coaching staff is able to get this guy's head screwed on straight?

Didn't Chow basically vouch for White's character?

I guess right now I'm more concerned about his hamstring than his attitude... but both are valid concerns. (I own White in 1 dynasty league)
