Let's fully admit that Torry Holt is a fantasy stud... (1 Viewer)

Um....

Dude (and you can search this throughout the summertime FG threads) was under a TON of scrutiny regarding his knee.

He lost the running game... for a fair number of weeks.

His offensive line was DECIMATED, including Orlando Pace.... the like we haven't seen in ages.

Dude went down to the 2nd and 3rd string QBs for weeks.

He may be just outside of your top ten, but given the circumstances, most of which beyond his control.....but not one of the WRs above him lost their starting QB, much less went to their #3, much less o-line woes... some lost starting RBs (TJ Housh, Colston)... but all kept their stud QB intact.

Pending the status of his knee coming training camp... i'd love to see Torry fall a few notches. Besides, St Louis is not THIS bad....

Mr. Consistency, this is my 3rd season straight with him on my roster. It's a shame he could've been so much better this season with a better supporting cast but he still finds a way to put up quality numbers.

I saw that Torry partially participated in practice Tuesday. Is there an injury problem, or is this the team taking it easy on him since there is a Thursday game?

your loss.
:lmao: .......but he can't here you his tool factor volume is turned up way to highEdit to add: Holt just put up his 8th straight 1000yd year. Harrison had 8 going into this year....the only player I can think of with more is Rice(11).....That puts him in pretty good company!

Like someone said your loss. I did the same thing with Tiki Barber, but drafted him his last season and he got me a title.

If I get him next year, it'll be the kiss of death for him.

I've never owned consistent WRs, opting to go for flashier WRs in the past like Moss or Chad Johnson.

This year I changed gears and grabbed Marvin Harrison for the first time.

:goodposting:

Holt is very good ..... mostly becuase of his consistentsy. ... always a top 10 WR.

My issue with Holt is that he is normaly drafted as a top 3 WR... which he is not (fantasy wise)

I tend to let other owners draft him in the late second , then try and trade for him as the season goes on.

Would you believe some moron in my league dropped him about Week 7??

Fortunately I was in last at that time and scooped him up and have started him every week.

He beats the heck out of Lee Evans and Javon Walker who I drafted.

Every year I can grab Holt in the late 3rd and early 4th. I haven't seen him close to the top 3 WR selected in awhile.

Did Holt justify his ADP as one of the top 5 WR chosen in most fantasy drafts? No, I don't believe he did.Once an NFL wide receiver starts to "lose it", they go downhill pretty quickly. Old man Holt will have a serious dropoff in production next year.
His ADP was 6th among wr and he's #12 in my league right now despite having his qb out for a good bit of time/playing with broken ribs/concussion, his starting RB out for 1/2 the season and a college o-line that lost literally every starter and several backups. Not bad considering the absolute disaster that occured on his team this year. BTW his prior 4 years he finished 2, 7, 6, 6 and he would have finished right in that same range if they had a somewhat normal year in St. Louis. He's literally 80 yards and 1 TD from being 5th overall so lets no overreact too much.

Frankly, the only elite receiver with this kind of turmoil on his team was Steve Smith. And he dropped like a stone this year.
Steve Smith > Torry Holt.
Not for me. Over the past 5 years Holt has finished 2, 7, 6, 6, 13th (currently) and Smith is 15, 145, 1, 8, and 18th (currently). Injuries and situation do matter. I'd rather have the year in year out consistency of Holt rather than the feast or famine of Smith.

A player doesn't have to finish exactly where he was drafted in order to justify his draft position. I mean, by that logic, Tomlinson didn't justify his draft position because Tom Brady has had a better fantasy season. That's just dumb. If I draft a WR and he finishes within 6 slots of where I picked him, then I feel fine with that selection. Besides, the value in Torry Holt isn't his upside, it's his downside. When you pick Holt, you aren't getting a shot at the #1 fantasy receiver (his one monster season notwithstanding), you're getting the near-certainty of a top-10 fantasy receiver.

I don't see this unless his knees get worse. He did very well without Bulger and as long as they're on the field together he'll do fine. His knees are a real problem so I'm not expecting any more 1300/10 seasons from him.

Um...Dude started one game 4 years ago.Last 3 yearsSmith - 1, 8, 18Holt - 6, 6, 13Look about equal, SS has more upside.

How'd Holt do this week?

Not a fantasy stud.
Fantasy studs do well every week?I thought LT and Brady were studs but I guess not.
Holt has underperformed all year. It's just funny that he would stink things up the very week someone starts a thread proclaiming him to be a fantasy stud.
You really don't understand the trainwreck that was the Rams offense this year and Holt still had 1000 yards?Football = Team Game

Everyone= Merry Christmas!

Um,Dude stated already that injuries obviously matter.Um, Holt finished better in 2 of the three years according to your stats. I fail to see what upside Smith has over Holt.Um,Dude's point was that Holt is more consistent, and not being injured is a part of that. So is the team around them. So, um, Dude's point, um, stands. Holt is a more consistent FF performer than, um, Smith.

Here is Holt's stat line from week 16.3 catches, 41 yardsIf you had this "fantasy stud" in your starting lineup this week, you probably lost.
If you're in the championship game, you have more than one receiver on your roster. Generally speaking, good teams are deeper than one player and anyone who thinks that a bad outing by 1 player ruins the team's chances, isn't all that savvy in the ways of FF.I had Smith on the bench, and won.

Torry Holt is a fantasy stud. Just not this season. Everything that could have went wrong did go wrong for the Rams offense. Keep that in mind when Torry Holt is likely drafted much later than in seasons past next year.
