Lions v Packers MNF (4 Viewers)

This is the problem with homer fans. They dont care about the the facts and the big discussion, they are just gonna fanboy out.

Makes everything they say not credible when we all have eyes to see what happened.
Well I believe that Packer fans see what they want to see, I actually do agree that the Kerryon Johnson TD was pretty sketchy. At no point did he look in, and the refs clearly disagreed whether it was a TD or not.

Sho I know you want to cape up for Green Bay here and defend them against literally everyone else that watched that game. The point isn’t Detroit vs GB. The point is the refs are bad, the rules don’t work, replay is bad and the whole thing is broken.
Nothing gets me as animated as bad officiating. Bad coaching doesnt do it to me as much as bad officiating. Coaches make mistakes because thats their job as coaches, the refs shall never be allowed or tolerated to make even the slightest mistake.

They are human and I think mistakes by the refs are ok. Part of the game. The issue is that in trying to make the refs and the game perfect, it’s only created a much larger mess.

The worst part is that in the replay on the 2nd hands to the face, you can see Official #34 standing about 5 feet from the play and staring directly at Flowers, and no flag. But no overrule on the call because either the fix was in or the reffing crew is just totally incompetent.

I've been trashing Booger this season so I will give him credit for crucifying the refs there, when the other analyst really didn't want to go there.  His stock went up tonight.

The NFL has less accountability for mistakes than any league in sports. Such a joke. But that's what you get away with when you're the most popular sport in the country.

Yes, football coach time traveling from the 80s, kicking field goals is a knock. Scoring is at a premium now, you can’t settle for 3 points especially in short yardage situations.
This spin to make FGs appear bad that is almost politician level. Scoring points is bad? You just said that. Because they dont score 7 everytime that 3 is bad?

Exactly.  We have the luxury at hole in slow motion and HD

Yeah, glad to see someone finally stand up and call out blatantly bad calls. Most of the time, it’s a chuckle and a “missed that one” comment. Booger was pretty fired up

At least the TD was able to be reviewed. Must have been close enough not to be overturned.

The "hands to face" penalties are brutal in that they are purely judgement calls by one person and when they are very wrong, no one can do anything to correct it.

Funny, I have an English friend who would say that exact same thing about Soccer.

Correct, they felt it necessary as always to be reactive instead of proactive. They've really ruined the game and the last few minutes all bets are off.

Do you think 16 million watched a blow out of the Patriots and Giants Thursday night because they love football or some of their players were playing?

Read up on how win probability changes when teams settle for 3. As the league continues to score more points, you scoring less is a bad thing.

So did they not report to the ref at any point that Flowers wasn't lying about it being the shoulder pads on the first call?  Because it seems really bad to get it wrong in the same way again unless he just never found out that he had the first one wrong.  Did that ref walk off the field tonight thinking that he got both calls right?

I mean the Packers did the exact same thing.  They just got bailed out on two of those drives by penalties (one on the field goal attempt and another on the first bogus hands to the face call after they'd been stopped).

I have not been in a single game chat (any game) when one teams fans or the others aren’t talking about bad ref calls and how that team is the refs favorite or whatever.

https://www.footballdb.com/stats/penalties.html

So far this year Pack 17th most penalized team and Lions 18th. Lions are the darlings of the league. Indy is the least penalized team.

I have said it many times the refs have not been good this year. Which may be an understatement, but still, they are the same guys for both teams.

Ok let’s stop with this.  Offensive holding could be called on almost every play.  Those hands to the face calls were terrible along with the questionable personal foul on the play Allison was knocked out and the missed PI.
What do you mean lets stop with this?  Its the question of where and when an official inserts themselves into a game.  When there is a hold in the same visual frame, what call is flagged or not is relevant to what the point of this thread is now.

vs. watching it regular speed from 8 feet away in 480p like the ref had to do.

I could see how the ref could mistake a giant blue hand on the white jersey collar was actually a hand on the face under those viewing conditions.

.... twice.

Your bias is as obvious as the refs blown calls. You are trying to change facts of what people saw.
Ive changed no facts on the calls at all actually.

Ive simply stated the fact that what we see in slow motion looks different than what see in real time.  Ive said that refs  suck...Ive said that all teams have been hurt or helped by that.

IVe said GB got a break

what bias is there in that?

Settling for FGs too often, it's not gaining 3 so much as it is losing potential 4 or 5 by not cashing in on drives.

3 TDs, 2 FGs, good mix

1 TD, 5 FGs...they needed to score more TDs, look how fast Green Bay exploited the Zebras tonight and it blew up in Detroit's face.

You know who used to like to kick a good mean FG...Marty Schottenheimer straight up 80s coaching

Read up on how many teams win games by FGs.
In this instance the Lions were kicking FGs and the Packers were doing....nothing in reply, and it was remaining as nothing until the BS calls. In this instance, without absolutely egregious ref errors, FGs were enough to win

I expect anyone defending the refs here tonight to never post in a New England game thread complaining about how they "get all the calls".

You watching this game?
Yep. I saw the Lions unable to score but one TD. 4 fgs won't win you many games.  But go ahead and blame the refs. The only touchdown they scored was a bs call that 3 refs  called it no td, but was overturned by one ref. Ridiculous.

But blame the refs.

Packer fan here.  Maybe one call in Detroit's favor, three or four bad ones in Packers favor.  I disagree with the announcers that Detroit was winning the physical battles.  The Packers were stuffing the run and running the ball.  The Packers gifted Detroit with three turnovers.  Yes Detroit had to make the play on the turn overs, but they were more or less gifts.  The Packers gifted them with multiple drops.  In the end I'll take the win as I have had to take hard loses as well, but I know this, these teams were close in skill on the field.  Both these teams made some boneheaded mental errors but the Packers far more and when you make far more and are evenly matched you deserve to lose .  The Packers deserved to lose and the refs definitely bailed them out.  I don't believe in conspiracies since the Packers have been on the wrong end of the bad call stick far too often for me to believe that, but this game, the opportunity was handed to them. Sure, they took advantage in the end, but damn, Detroit fans have a right to be bitter.

Mason Crosby's final field goal lost me a fantasy game and the failure of Williams to go in for the T.D. cost me money.

Stafford's wife, wow she looked good in those yoga pants kickboxing.  Glad for her, him, and their little girls that things worked out for her.

Scott Van Pelt was all over this. He was pretty vocal, I'm sure Goodell will put a call into Mickey Mouse tomorrow and tell them to knock it off, it was a great game 23-22, praise it, etc...

You need to shout it from the rooftops that we got a break and a lucky win. Then and only then will I or anyone else believe you.

There are dozens of missed holding calls on both sides every game.

Im not a Lions fan or a Packers fan.

I will blame the refs.

If credibility mattered, you would not have said what you said.

Fantastic post.
And huge respect to Stafford and his wife as someone who lost  my father and an aunt to brain cancer.

After the first call against flowers for grabbing the shoulder pads near the neck I would think he maybe could change that technique, but nope.  Adjusting to the calls is part of the game. I thought the non- call on the interference was huge.  Of course I thought Detroit interfered a time or two, like when the defensive end knocked Arron Jones to the ground 7 yards down on his route.  Still, on balance, lots of gifts to my team.

The Jury already handed down their ruling and it's unanimous GUILTY, so now it's really just a matter of what the punishment will be. Ref fired, NFL issues statement, all those things will show that those 2 BS Trey Flowers calls are going to be well backed in the media across the channels tomorrow but we'll wait and see, ESPN roasted those calls so they do seem important. Detroit's defense played out of their mind tonight and I don't think they were getting pushed around.

Green Bay punts 8:00, 22-13, what would have happened then? A few minutes off the clock, maybe 25-13 before you all see the ball again with maybe 5:00 left...maybe Rodgers wins the game.

You guys had no WRs and so I understand the want to defend this as a great Rodgers moment. I got caught up in his first score but then I rewinded the drive and that was just a terrible call on a player who has never ever been called for that in his career, that is something.

Here's what incompetence in officiating does: It gets people thinking that the league may be getting back at Lions coach Matt Patricia for wearing the Goodell clown nose T-shirt after Super Bowl LI. While extremely unlikely, horrible calls open the door to conspiracy theories

He's never been called for it and you are going to question his...Booger already weighed in heavy, maybe you caught some of it, he played DL.

I think it's one thing to be happy to be on the right side of 23-22 but the rest is just being a fan, there is nothing impartial in the post. I don't root for either team, most outside of Green Bay or the casual NFL fan is grimacing tonight.

I don't believe I said otherwise, other than the run game which, if you go back and watch I believe you might agree with.  In case I was less than clear I agree Detroit got jobbed.  I don't believe I can be clearer than that.

Plenty of us in GB are grimacing too.  I feel like I need to take a shower after that one.

You seem to be looking for a quarrel with me where there is none, unless you believe pro athletes do not adjust their game to the way it is being reffed, and if so, well your opinion is yours.  I am not saying Flowers should have had to adjust his game, just that he might to avoid another bad call.

I think I have been clear that I too feel like we got caught stealing, on camera, on national T.V.  He seems to want something more from me.  There was a game and plays beside those.  I feel those too are worthy of some mention.
