Listing the problems in society (1 Viewer)

No one has the answer because there is no one answer. We are where we are because of decades of problems that have been ignored. Everyone actually has a point but we are so divided, so segregated and so stubborn that all we do is talk over each other, point fingers and cover our ears to things we don't agree with.

There are probably hundreds of problems that got us to where we are today, with so many of them intersecting that it will probably be impossible to pull them apart.

Let's put together a list of issues that plague our society. Don't just say Republicans or Obama or religion or guns. Try to be specific to get on the list.

I'll start with:

Overprescribed drugs - doctors and pharmaceutical companies are making zombies of our population.

PTSD of returning veterans - 20+ committing suicide every day!

Social media - We are bombarded with information, opinions, hate and lies.

Journalism is profit driven instead of news driven

Money and politics are not good bed-mates.  https://represent.us/

Having some critical thinking(instead of 'teaching to the test') skills  involved in the entire school system

Health care is profit driven and not "health" driven

Divisive politics

Racism

Excessive cost of innovation as a burden on Americans

Excessive foreign aid

Failed War on Drugs

Proper use of military funding

Greed/power at all costs, to the detriment of others

The impact of religion on society

Lack of self accountability

The effects of globalization

Care and treatment of societies mentally ill and it's connection to mass causality events

The effects of addiction on society

A great example of something that needs to be discussed further. It's a great point but one that could be countered with the need for profit to continue advancements. But it should be discussed to find the line instead of everyone being so steadfast in an opinion on it.

All these problems have been around since the beginning of time and their is no good answer.

Just do the best you can and hope for the best bro

Its a miracle society works at all.  John B. Calhoun did a study over overcrowding using mice.  He set up a utopia where the mice had every need met.  At first they bred a lot until they reached a certain level and then several self-destructive behaviors would set in and the population would drive itself to extinction.

Manufacturing is dead and our robber barons deal with the procurement and dissemination of personal and public information. Makes for a different kind of aristocracy and has disrupted social relations in ways not yet understood.

The mouse experiment typically went like this:

1.  the population grew rapidly.

2.  new generations entered society but came under distress because all territories and borders had already been defined.  The young were unable to stake out their own areas.

3.  the young generation were forced into seeking acceptance from previous generations that had established territories.

4.  more and more of these would get socially rejected.

5.  the young socially rejected mice would become physically hostile.

6.  this behavior would increasingly spread throughout the mouse colony until the population became dysfunctional.

7.  the colony collapsed and went extinct.

The key phases are:  youth unable to define themselves and facing social rejection, leading to violence, and then dysfunction, and finally extinction.

Perhaps a healthy community is one where people can believe what they want and live in peace.  But if people aren't allowed to do that, if incompatible ways of life are forced be together, you get problems.  Our politics is left and right, and they are incompatible.  If you decide to socially reject the far left, you get unrest and violence.  If you decide to reject the far right, you get unrest and violence.  Perhaps the worst choice of all is to decide being a moderate is best and reject both the far left and far right, because then you get twice as much violence.

The trick is figuring out how to bring everyone together and stop rejecting people.

#1 problem in America is and always has been racism/the myth of white superiority. Most of our problems stem from this myth.

Your reply is ridiculous, uninformed, and part of why racism is an issue, from the very beginning.

Ok. So what's the end game here?    The whole "acknowledging white privledge" good times that Hillary has even co-opted. Affirmative action? Reparations? National Day of White Rendering? I'm coming to this honestly.  I'm a pragmatist and want solutions. What now?

But the way, thanks for the uplifting thread. As someone who is trying to raise the next generation in this world, I think I'll go slit my wrists now.  :(

How about the fact that the US has to pay for all the innovation and the rest of the world seems to get things much cheaper than we do.

How about we pay off a huge number of countries for various things and most of those same countries don't even like us.  Never understand that.  Don't send money.  Send food or whatever.  It's like we pay them off to not go to war with us

Thats better than having a generation raised with it beat in their heads about how evil and racist America is go fight that war.

Endgame?  A better place for all people to live?  Education and experience with people of other cultures/backgrounds.  The only solution!

Our war on drugs is more like a war on drug addicts. These are the people who need our compassion the most. Instead we treat them like criminals, push them aside and label them as the lowest form of society. Out of sight, out of mind.

Just like a lot of things listed in this thread, much of it is also profit driven.

Perfect example of an internet Troll. From his User Name, to his picture and to his message. This message should be marked for future historians when somebody asks "What was an Internet Troll"?

Another problem is the amount of money spent on the US Military. Example, the F-35, the overall program will cost 1.5 trillion and the planes is riddled with problems

Basically, who the hell cares what you think badmojo.  Your name says it all.  badmojo indeed.  Why do you care about my name.  I am, not trolling.   A person asked a question and I gave my answer.  You don't like it, bury your head back in the sand or whatever orifice suits you, and move on.

Greed. Not that we can do anything about it because greed stems from an instinct to survive and make life as good as possible for you and your progeny.

The bottom line is everything can be traced back to basic instincts for survival and continuing your genetic line in as favorable environment as possible.

Find a way to curb those instincts and I think many problems go away.

Actually greed is mostly a good thing.
