Update? There isn't one. Why is that?Link to the details of the final investigation?Yes, they were running. They ran from the police, probably in part because they were scared, probably in part because they were thugs. Does either justify shooting one in the back? (Unless you believe, as some here apparently do, that Michael Brown turned around and from a distance of 30 feet, unarmed, started charging a policeman who was firing bullets at him.)Just to clarify, the two kids killed in Ferguson were running, right? Maybe I missed some new information.no, based on young black men's experiences as young black men.Based on your experience as a young black man?It isn't true because even if you do all of those things, if you're a young black man , you're still at risk.

Embedded quotes is what drove Hitler nuts.I believe the prosecutor and Nixon both warned against too many embedded quotes. I assume that they took precautions.

I'm picturing a crowd standing in the middle of the street in front of your business. Some are tossing stuff at the advancing line of police, some are just gesticulating and yelling vituperative stuff. The advancing line of police has some groups moving back, traveling on the sidewalk adjacent to your building. A rock, or even two break your window. There are dozens of people right there. Who do you shoot? Where did the rocks come from? How many folks uninvolved in breaking your window do you think you will murder? Don't you at least wait until the crowd starts crossing the threshold of the broken window sill before you and your buddies start mowing folks down?Your implication was that I would be scared ####less. Trust me, it is the other guy who is going to be scared. If I was a business owner in Ferguson it would be very simple. Myself and a couple of buddies would post up with some high powered semi automatic rifles and five hundred rounds of ammunition each. The moment my front window drops and I am dropping some mother####ers on the sidewalk.Actually, it has nothing to do with fear. My viewpoint is that sane people value life over property.Sure thing. I guess you have the viewpoint that most people live in fear of others. I am not one of them. I guarantee you that had I been a business owner in Ferguson, my building wouldn't have burned down. The only thing you're pumping is a brown steamer into your pants when confronted by someone, in a scenario like this, deadset on taking what's yours. You try to take mine and I am going to pump a shot into your body. If you value my property more than your life...that is your problem. Not mine.Lives come before property. It's extraordinarily disgusting and revealing you don't understand that.Um...my lawfully earned and gained property and the income from which I pay taxes expressly for the purpose of government protection comes before the lives of some marauding thugs. Cops standing in a line on a street while looters burn and vandalize isn't protecting any lives.
Period.

The events of last night go beyond a simple local news story and amount to a national disgrace. All of us as Americans should be embarrassed by what we witnessed and should demand that those responsible for this atrocity be held accountable.
But enough about the Jets. Any updates on how things are going in Missouri?

Still trying to gin up controversy? This is what you wanted, right? Change.Only through maybe 12 witness accounts so far, but I'm struggling to see why this didn't end in indictment for trial aside from the state not wanting it to. There's a couple accounts corroborating Wilson's version of events but have aspects to them that could cause reasonable doubt, and there's a bunch of people confirming the basic events of an "altercation at the car", shots at the car, Brown fleeing, turning back, moving in some manner toward Wilson (some call it a stumble, others a walk) and either had his arms at his side or raised, but not above his shoulders. There could certainly be more in this thousands of pages that might make it more clear cut, but this evidence only raises more questions for me so far. But those questions are probably unanswerable without video.

What? 12 eyewitness accounts are not enough? If I robbed a store and one person saw me do it, I am pretty sure I would be screwed.
These lying idiots did such a poor job of lying at their grand jury testimony, how the hell do you think they would fare with a defense attorney destroying them at a trial? I bet there was so much eye rolling at the grand jury hearings that they had to pass out Tylenol for headaches.Only through maybe 12 witness accounts so far, but I'm struggling to see why this didn't end in indictment for trial aside from the state not wanting it to. It would be great if someone did a kickstarter-type fundraiser for the owner of the market and any other businesses in the area that were damaged to get them the money they need to repair and restock. We could use something that nearly everyone could get behind. I bet they could raise whatever they need in a matter of hours.Raider Nation said:I'm heartbroken for those small-business owners who get up every day and try to make a living, and their stores are now ashes for no good reason.

I saw a picture on Twitter this morning of (reportedly) a bakery owner standing outside her burned-out shop and crying. Awful. :(Raider Nation said:I'm heartbroken for those small-business owners who get up every day and try to make a living, and their stores are now ashes for no good reason.

You have some serious issues. Most things aren't worth jail time or loss of lives. You sound like a horrible human being.
And that's why I said "nearly everyone."I'd rather do a kickstarter campaign to raise bounty money and put a price on the heads of those responsible.

Residents of that area obviously don't care to have any places of employment or to purchase goods in the immediate vicinity.
This paticular link doesn't work for me (getting an "old browser" message). But I've seen references to the "Pumpkin Riot" a few times in this thread. Before I read any details: was that really comparable to Ferguson in any way?Do people in New Hampshire not care about their community?

Looting and rioting is terrible and indefensible. But it's ridiculous to conclude that the population doesn't care about its community just because a few terrible people act like idiots and trash the place. Do people in New Hampshire not care about their community? San Francisco? Vancouver? Southern California?
I should have known you would think those are on the same level as what went down last night.... Feel free to stay on topic and post some pictures of the 15-20 local businesses burned to the ground and countless others that were looted in NH and San Francisco and SoCal riots.Even if they wanted to good luck getting insurance in that area. So, for the national chain stores, O'Reilly Auto, Little Ceasar's, etc... what is the upside to rebuilding these stores?

Of course not... that won't stop Tobias from googling every riot involving white people he can find, without even considering it's relevance to the discussion at hand (lawless theft and destruction of local businesses within your own community), though. This paticular link doesn't work for me (getting an "old browser" message). Not the same level of damage, of course. Of course, not really the same situation, either. Authoritarian police behavior revolving around a controversial shooting vs a pumpkin festival.Young people chucked beer cans and cups at each other, jumped off roofs, tore down, kicked and smashed road signs, set a large fire and chanted profanity, celebrated on top of a flipped car, took selfies in front of lines of riot police, got the attention of a police helicopter, chanted "U-S-A!", pushed barricades and threw a street sign at police, threw bottles at the police after the police threw tear gas, and left behind a huge mess.
yepWhy is the black community rallying their cause around a thug? There are so many racial injustices in this country. Pick a better one to to rally around. Don't pick the guy who robs a store, assaults the store owner, punches a cop in the cop car, then bull rushes a cop. Then to go riot and burn innocent people's busineses. Makes you wonder.
None, they won't rebuild. Ferguson is destroying itself in spite of itself. So, for the national chain stores, O'Reilly Auto, Little Ceasar's, etc... what is the upside to rebuilding these stores?
My thought exactly. The looters wore their masks while gathering waiting for the verdict, they weren't exactly being inconspicuous.I wonder how many of those people were from Ferguson that did the damage and how many outsiders actually just came in to tear #### up?

There are a lot of differences- scope/extent of damage on the one hand, the cause of the riots (perceived injustice and authoritarian police behavior vs. sports results) on the other. My point wasn't that those places are bad, or that everyone riots. My point was that few dozen terrible people reacting poorly to some trigger event doesn't equate to a terrible community that doesn't care about its well-being and its businesses.Of course not... that won't stop Tobias from googling every riot involving white people he can find, without even considering it's relevance to the discussion at hand (lawless theft and destruction of local businesses within your own community), though. This paticular link doesn't work for me (getting an "old browser" message).
