Madden '08 has it's first 100.0 'speed' player (1 Viewer)

GRIDIRON ASSASSIN

Probably the only 100 the guy has ever received.

Hopefully they don't put him on the Madden '08 cover, but I guess it would give them a reason to improve that particular position's gameplay.

I can see it. Hester is one fast SOB. I am really surprised that D. Sanders never got a 100 rating in speed.

In the article it states he was once clocked at 4.19 in the forty!!

No fricken way!! He was fast, but 4.19?

There's a difference between game speed and track speed.

I think Hester proved a little something as a rookie last year.

Seven TDs from a return specialist in one season? Insane!

EA Sports gets the ratings wrong once again, 100 SPD for Hester is ridiculous.
Is he even the fastest player in the NFL? I doubt it.
Just off the top of my head Champ Bailey, DeAngelo Hall, Fabian Washington and Jerome Mathis are all faster than Hester
Damn, dont jump off a bridge...its a game, relax.........EA got it right, b/c no one in the NFL is as good as Hester was returning kicks last year and many years before that, so to make it transition to gameplay on your sega genesis or whatever you play, 100 makes him above and beyond everyone else........the man has football speed

How about nobody has ever returned more special teams TDs in one season EVER in the history of the NFL? Cold hard fact.

Obviously you don't play this game but they have a KR and PR catagory ..... I would be fine with 100 in each of those....just not speed.

That is kinda dumb. I saw Hester "almost" get caught many times while scoring. He has GREAT acceleration and agility but he is definitely not the fastest player in teh league, not even close. Reggie Bush tops him easily, as do many others.

Send me a memo when EVERYBODY on the opposition on the first play of the Super Bowl KNOWS Bush is going to get the ball and they have to stop him, a probable Hall of Fame kicker boots the ball to him... and Bush blasts right past all of 'em for the quickest TD in Super Bowl history.

IIRC, Kordell Stewart also ran a sub-4.2 forty. Just for what it's worth. Also, Michael Bennett is an olympic track star. If anybody deserves to be named the "fastest man in the NFL", it's him (although I doubt he is anymore thanks to injuries). When Hester runs in the Olympics, then I'll believe it.

More importantly, who is the Madden '08 Cover Boy, so I know not to draft him, or trade him if he's one of my keepers?

MADDEN CURSE ALIVE AND WELl

Yeah there's been alot of fast players. The fastest NFL player "ever" over several years(outside of Carl Lewis' lame attempt to play for the Boys) was probably Michael Haynes with the Saints. It's not easy for them to keep it up at that prolific speed. Darrell Green comes to mind too.Michael Jennings of the Giants is a good example of this. He barely even played football but was super fast+as raw a prospect as can be. Years later after a few camps and few NFLE seasons he's getting some playing time with the Giants and now his speed isn't even mentioned. IIRC When he started he was a truck driver like Michael Lewis.Find a way to time Vick or Barry Sanders when they've got the ball with defenders around they might be faster opposite with Lawrence Taylor and his incredible ability to catch RBs from behind.I'm not sure but I'd bet a younger Dante Hall was quicker than Hester maybe not faster but quicker.ETA Haynes too was an olympic runner

They've got Moorman's speed at like 59 and he runs in the 4.4s. I don't think we should waste our time trying to figure out how they figure it up.

Lot's of holding penalties went uncalled though for him to do it.

:o Not as many holding penalties for Emmitt Smith during his career - or Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl.... :lmao:GIMME A FLIPPIN BREAK!!! and if my Aunt had balls, she'd be my Uncle.

I'll never forget him taking the opening kickoff against NCSU over 100 yards for a TD with 12 seconds coming off the game clock.

If memory serves me correctly....DeAngelo Hall of the falcons won the NFL's fastest man contest at the pro bowl. He wasn't even going to compete, but he stepped out of the bleachers and won it without even warming up.

from the looks of the link, the madden cover looks like a QB. I am guessing Brees. Just a hunch.

I agree. Hester is extremely quick (maybe 100), but his top end speed is not near many guys in the league.

BTW, didn't Hester fumble as many times as he returned kicks for TD's which basically meant that his overall return game was just good?

Neon Deion was timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.17 seconds by NFL scouts, and 4.28 seconds at the NFL combineAnd he was FAST.

4.28 sounds more reasonable. No way I believe he was clocked at 4.17 though. Maybe hand timed but not electronically.

Here is how Hester's ratings should look like:

99 agi, 99 acc, 98 spd, 99 kr, 70 carry, 60 awr.

He is definitely not the fastest player in the NFL at top speed. He is the best kick returner and might be one of the quickest and most agile. Also, no one should get a 100 rating in anything. They never have before, I dont see why they need to change it now.

Hester ran the 40s in 4.43 and 4.48 at the combine.
Perfect example. Hester is quick. not exactly fast. their are alot of guys faster. I think they should have made his agility a 100 before making his speed 100.
On his Super Bowl TD, he was caught from behind by Matt Giordano (Go Bears!), who is not a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OOOOOO

The shadowed profile on that box looks an awful lot like a pic of VY.

Do you think that means anything? When Philly played Dallas in 2003, Philly opened the game with an onsides kick, which Dallas recovered and returned 37 yards for a TD 3 seconds into the game (the fastest score in NFL history). The return was made by Randal Williams, a no-name 235 pound TE. If the official scorer is to be believed, that 235 pound TE that no one has heard of ran a THREE SECOND FORTY.

Don't rely on the gameclock to measure speed.

Hester had 8 fumbles in 67 touches, by far the most in the league per touch. Make his "Carry" stat a 30, and maybe we'll talk. ;)

Bunch of haters in here :boxing:

Every one of you would want Hester returning kicks for your team though :P

I think he should concentrate on knocking passes down just prior to halftime against division rivals like the Saints. D-Hall = O-Rated

Usually when one sprints for a touchdown, he isn't 'caught from behind'. If he was caught, it wouldn't be a touchdown... Hester has a flair for the dramatic. He was toying with the Colts as he watched himself on the jumbotron.

Giordano caught him and tackled him as he crossed the goal line. Hester may have let up a bit in the last 10 yards, but it's not like that run showed blazing straight-line speed. Giordano was keeping pace with him even before Hester slowed up; Giordano is a mid-4.5 kind of guy in terms of speed.

That's funny... I don't recall tackles being awarded on touchdown plays. Why don't you show me where he tackled Hester on the game stats?

LOL... you guys are truly pathetic.
