MAD's ROUND 2!! # 1's have been posted!! (5 Viewers)

Thinking about what I will be doing for my write ups. This time will be different because the vast majority of the songs are newish to me. With Sigur Ros, they were songs I’ve loved for 10-20 years so I had plenty to say about them.

What were people’s favorite parts/takeaways from the song write ups?

I assume everyone gets something different from them.
The reason I did them was to geek out and release all the Stranglers stuff that was in my brain and id researched.

This time round with 2 artists on the go I wont be as detailed.

For other peoples write ups, sometimes you give them a quick onceover, other times a detailed read. The thing i enjoyed was other peoples passion for their artist. It makes me want to like their music more, even if sometimes the styles aren’t in my genres.

I hope everyone reposts their artist blurbs when the countdown starts next month
Thank you.
I know everyone is excited as they develop and finish their rankings, but these very interesting blurbs will be impossible to find once we start listening to the playlists.

Anyway
Röyksopp
They are a duo and Norwegian.
They get other people to sing for them…most of the time

Tears for Fears
They are a duo (most of the time) and English
They alternate vocals between the duo

More closer to the start of this.
1. I think it might be a decent idea to ask @Zegras11 to pin or link to OP. If not, I am happy to do a link on my first post of the thread and link these. Just a simple KP - Mastodon with a link to my 1 or 2 main posts about the band.
2. Sorry, this is one of my very few outlets for geeking out about music. I thought a slow release of posts like these would be a good build up to the 1st because there isn't much chatter in either thread currently. IMO 45 of these posts on Oct 1st can be overwhelming too.
I totally get it. I have a wife who has many wonderful qualities, but enjoying music isnt one of them. None of my children have any interest in my music. Thats why i love threads like this. The ability to release years of passion about an artist, even if its just for my therapy. Its a bonus if others get something out of it.
It wasnt meant as a criticism. If you can find a way to make it easy to find them, thats brilliant. It just gets lost in the shuffle otherwise.

I admitted before hand I may not write up every song and I may just skim some of the write-ups. I did read most of yours because as I expressed through the thread I was interested in hearing more and more from the band, their sound was so unique and your write ups were passionate.

What I wrote probably didn’t really respond to your question really so I’ll just say do what you feel works best for you. To me the playlists/music is what matters during these. If that doesn’t work, I’ll care even less about the write up.

The bolded is me as well. I am interested in all of it - lyric meanings, song origins, facts on the artist - whatever. But if people only had time for one thing, for me I am more about the personal stories, why that song connects, what specific part or piece drew you to it - stuff like that.

Trust, me I get how spazzed out I get and pushy I get. I feel myself going there then I will start to work on another playlist for a bit or something. Add to your description above, somebody who works part time and has 0 social life. Might explain some of the obsessiveness.

Dammit, I want to share the trippy stoner video so bad. I told myself that I was 100% playlist, and couldn't base this on the videos. That meant that 2 of my favorite videos aren't in the countdown.

A preview of The Pointer Sisters that isn't available on Spotify.

You Got Me Hummin' Live at Filmore West (1971)

I live about three blocks from the site of the Fillmore West. It was a Honda dealership as long as I've lived here but it reverted back to an events space a few years before the pandemic. It hosted the virtual Van Gogh experience when those were a thing but it's dark most of the time.

I'm bummed that Mrs. E and I will be out of town for the weekend of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in SF this year. It's always a highlight of the musical calendar.

We'll be in New Orleans instead which will be cool and fun and hot and humid.

Wrighteous Ray and I will be in New Orleans Oct. 2-6. :)
Are we getting a Ringo list for this one?

Sorry, won’t be around enough to participate in this one!

I finished season 1 of The Bear last night. The use of “Chicago” was amazing.

I am following instructions to a tee and bookmarking and its not working and saving when i attempt to edit.
Its all wiped and gone and i have to start again.
Any tips cause i must have tried about 12 different entries on 3 different browsers and nothing has saved.
Beginning to think I am an idiot.

I don't think it's you.

Like an idiot, I used the first link in the conversation and had to do it twice (using the 2nd link in the next iteration). In neither case did I get an edit opportunity. The only link I got was to "submit another response", but 2x was enough for me.

same for me (no edit button) - so I hope i entered correctly.

Everyone has been sent the Google Form to submit your song lists via PM.

Let me know if you have any questions and don't BINKY IT!!!

For the artist write up, we just post it once before the countdown begins and for any song writeups we post them once you post the song or do we need to somehow include them in the Google form?

You can post them in here after each reveal.

I think most of us have just been PMing shuke.

There is no edit button to save. After you submit your list , you should see a button to further edit. Click on that and bookmark if you want to make further changes.

I am indeed a dummy. I submitted but don't see an edit button, just a link to "Submit another form".
You are no dummy. There was no edit or further edit link. Only a submit another form.

I'm not sure why, but it behaved differently from round 1
