"first hour was good then it reminded me of a movie that had one of the best special effects ever to grace the screen"
if you were informed you wouldn't have made that statement as a way to negatively review superman

A moron might interpret it that way, sure. I said nothing about the CGI or special effects being poor, or anything of the sort. I said it had a very Transformers-like penchant for throwing a mind-numbing amount of repetitive city destruction into the final hour.
repetitive city destruction with amazing special effects --you admitted they were-- is a bad thing? Another words, repetitive fun? I guess if I was an elitist moron --who can't just enjoy a movie that is fun-- I could see how your review is very informed, rather than uninformed trash.

After the Transformers films and the Avengers, studios realized audiences will pay over $1 billion to see a film filled with little more than fights and special effects now. That's what they modeled Man of Steel to accomplish. Looks like they succeeded.
Pacific Rim is another one, coming in July. It'll probably exceed box office expectations because its full of giant robots fighting giant monsters.

I liked it, but its not in the same league as any if the Batmans, avengers or the first ironman.
He became superman way too fast. There was no development there. I'd have liked to see a bit more of the loner searching for himself and then more explanation/training/discovering of powers with jor el. The action scenes were good but they were too long. The Clark kent reporter disguise cannot work here. It's because people already knew Clark kent as this weakling, that he's never suspected if bring superman. Here, Lois knows him, she interviewed his whole town, zod destroys smallville first of all places, the police dropped lois off at the Kent's, the Kent's house is destroyed, they got the phantom #### from their barn, lois calls him clark the whole movie (in frint of others i think?) then he shows up at the daily planter with a pair if glasses still calling himself Clark kent.

The avengers had a lot of background for the characters in the film and in the other movies leading up to it.

Much better that superman returns, 3 and 4. But unlike how Nolan's Batmans surpassed the 90s versions, Christopher Reeve is still Superman.

Transformers 2 was really bad. 3 was better, but was only ok. The first was pretty good but the sequels kind of take away from it.
I enjoyed it. Didn't care for the new Lois-Clark angle - but it is new.
I appreciate the plot and story. I know people rave about Avengers - which I thoroughly enjoyed - but that movie seriously lacked for a story.
Sounds like DC is more interested in a Supes-Bats film in the short term than a JLA movie (the first to be the predecessor to the latter).
And I think those calling out the Savior references are over-reacting. It was there but they weren't beating people over the heads with it

I saw this last night, I thought it was pretty bad. Way too much focus on the alien backstory, way too little time spent on earth and then the battle scenes were super repetitive, race as fast as you can at each, other, collide, destroy some city, lather, rinse, repeat. Not a good superhero movie, not a good superman movie.

I have never read any superman comics - was Krypton really a Star-Wars/Lord of the Rings hybrid type of planet?
I know they were obviously advanced.. but it seemed portrayed in a really weird way in this movie, but i'm not sure what's Canon.
Overall I did not like the movie very well.
I did not like the way they bounced around in time to tell the story.
As an origin story movie, I far preferred the original Superman with Reeve. I think that was a solid origin movie with a solid story line. It was wrapped up in a strange way with the whole turning back time thing... but the entire idea that superman has to make choices.. he can't save everyone... save a city, or save lois... that has to weigh on someone with his powers.

I saw this last night with my son (9); it was better than okay but not quite good. I far preferred the original Superman movie to this but this movie had its moments. I agree that the depiction of Krypton was over the top. I would also note how fantastic Puzo's original screenplay, and original story, was that it is still "borrowed" from here. I thought the fight scenes were a distraction but much more realistic of how a "Superman" fight would look. Was Jimmy Olsen in the movie?

I loved Superman The Movie. I was 8 years old when it came out...went and saw it in the theater (at that time it was a $1.50 to see a flick) 8 times. I was in awe. It was my childhood....and Superman is my favorite all time super hero.
I felt Man of Steel was a marvelous update. The acting was second to none of any Superman movie ever made. Zod was brilliant. I like that this movie took a darker turn. It was made with the same type of darker style that Nolan's Batman trilogy took.
As an orgin story.....it was solid. Not as good in some aspects as Reeves original Superman but very solid.
Costner was so good as Kents father. A very nice low key performance for Kevin. Crowe was as always fantastic and the perfect Jorel.
I loved the vision of Krypton in this movie. Of course they were far more advanced than us!!! And the visuals were stunning for the Krypton scenes. I would have loved a little more time on Krypton......but we all know the story. At least we got to really see Zod's story fleshed out a lot more than the couple of minutes they got in Superman The Movie. We never knew anything about the "why" (unless you read the comics) with Zod and his crew in Superman II. And this movie was great at making you actually feel for Zod and his unwaivering loyalty to his race although he was a madman and being portrayed as a potential Hitler type of dictator.
The movie was great and such a leap from the abysmal Superman III, IV and the huge dissapointment of Supeman Returns.
Again....to me this is The Superman Movie I had been hoping for as far as acting, effects and overall feel.
A real telling scene of the inner-struggle he had with his powers and his commitment to Earth/human race.

it's when the creators of Man of Steel rip off the creators of star wars and LOTR and create a Krypton that looks like a Hybrid of Coruscant, The outer rim, and Middle Earth.

Next movie would be good if they introduced Lex as a Trump type - but more ruthelss - and somehow Supes actions run afoul of Luthors ambitions. And then Lex makes his Superman hit squad - including the Parasite, Metallo and maybe one other.

I'm really beginning to wonder if I saw the same movie everyone else saw. The one I saw had Amy Adams looking good, cool visual effects, fun entertaining scenes and great performances by Russel Crowe and Kevin Costner all mixed in a reboot of a classic character using modern special effects. You know, fun.
