Marcel Shipp (1 Viewer)

Just wondering what others feel about Marcel? Personally, I think he could be really good if he were on a better team that actually had an offensive line. I see him turn what should be 4 yard losses into 6 yard gains.... the problem is, their line is so bad he gets tackled in the backfield before he even gets the ball sometimes. What is his contract situation for 2006 and do you think he would be good elsewhere? I'd love to see him split carries somewhere else. Az has no line, and it won't get any better soon in Az, not with Denny there... as long as his QB has time, that's all that matters to him. Thoughts?

The problem that I forsee with Shipp is that there are so many other free agent RBs, so many players available for trade, and so many guys in the draft that I doubt Shipp will have much of a chance at all to be considered starter material anywhere else. At last check, Shipp is at 490 touches since he had a TD, and that won't help his cause any.

For whatever reason, Green does not like Shipp. He could be even somewhat decent in AZ if he was given the fulltime load. But he never will with Green coaching, which will most likely only be another year in AZ anyway.

I mean, if you put Alexander on AZ's team, he wouldn't do anything either... You are correct though, there are just too many options for RB's out there. I just hope he gets another chance on some other team.

For some reason Marcel Shipp has an aversion to the end zone, even though he's a tough runner. He lacks speed to break off the long run, combine that with his poor TD numbers and I see Shipp as a backup NFL RB at best.

Funny, I was just thinking of guys that would be a pretty good value at RB and Shipp came to mind. He deserves another shot, he posted good numbers a couple years ago with a pathetic supporting cast.

IMO his shot at starting in the NFL have closed. Not because of his ability but because of injury and the team he has played on. Younger guys and FA's will draw more interest. If he gets a shot as a backup somewhere he should go. If he gets to start because of an injury he may get his deserved 2nd shot...All and all i dont like his chances. Suggs Pittman are in the same boat.

He averaged 2.9 yards per carry this year and hasn't scored a TD since 2002 (almost 500 touches). The rookie on the same team, behind the same awful offensive line had 3.3 yards per carry and two TDs. There is zero chance Shipp is the starter in Arizona or anywhere else in 2006. (Arrington may not be the starter in Arizona, either, but they might give him another shot).

They brought in a rookie to take the job this year and Shipp still ended up being the starter. They can bring all the rookie RB's they want in, it won't change the fact that their O-Line sucks. Any O lineman they bring in will be more of a pass blocking O lineman. Any RB in Az is screwed for awhile.

All of this is true; none of it changes the fact that Shipp sucks and will not be starting in 2006.
