I know it was chic to declare the Texans stupid for taking Williams over Bush last year. Figured I'd give it a few years to play out.

Mario:

28 tackles, 12 solo, 8.5 sacks

155 ATT, 601 yards, 3.9 YPA, 19 REC, 124 yards, 6.6 YPR 3 TD

Williams looks like a solid DE so far in his second year. If he is able to continue that way, then in my opinion a good DE is worth more than a good RB.

Everyone said they should have traded the pick, but I read reports that the next two were content to see who fell to them and not interested in trading up. The problem, as I understand it, is that they would have had to trade down far enough that they would miss out the guy they wanted, so they stuck around and took the guy they wanted.Jets were in the same situation. It's easy to say you should sell the pick, but if there's no one buying at the right price, then you stick with what you want.

I was upset when the Texans did'nt take Young. But Matt looks good and williams is playing better. I still think the Texans best draft pick last year was Ryans, and I have never been drinking the Reggie "Bust" koolaid. Bush was overated coming out of college, IMHO, and the Texans were smart to pass him by. Thru the first two games Bush has been dancing in the backfield. He should have worked a little more on running the ball between the tackles in the Offseason and less time doing promo's and commercials. I still think that Bush will put up decent Numbers this year when all is said and done but, NO needs to get thier act together on Offense. I will by into to Williams if he can keep up his current pace over the Next 4-5 games. I aint gonna chomp untill he proves it with more than a couple of games underway so far. On Bush - When I call him Reggie Bust its not that I dont recognize that he has got extream skill, I just dont think he is a Starting RB in the League, I would move him over to FLanker and work on getting him the ball in space. He has great hands and can contribute outside the backfield better rather than in it. Henderson didnt look like a starter yesterday, so somone needs to take his role!!!

I am shocked Ryans fell as far as he did in the draft last year. He was insane in college and he certainly translated that to the NFL. If Mario continues to develop, this team is going places. Texans should be only a season or 2 away from being a consistent contender.

Mario sucks for a #1, he should have been a 5th round pick. He is one of those guys who has all the strength and speed, but no athletic ability. I don't want to hear people say he is an super athelet b/c he can run fast, jump high and is strong as an ox. Pure and simple he probably can not even hit the damn backboard with a basketball, not too mention he is not into this football thing.

Reggie will be good if Payton pulls his head out of his ###. The plays look like the SF offense (don't get me started), all predictable and run, run, pass 4 yards and then punt. Duece is fat and no moves, quit giving him the ball on first. throw the damn ball to him when they are not expecting it. I feel like we have another Hermanator calling the plays for the Saints.

Reggie will be really good if used right. They need to use him as a runner right now and keep the other coordinators guessing

Vince Young has no relevence to the Texans aside from the 2 weeks the Texans play him every season.Anyone who doesn't think Mario has been dominant in both games this season has not watched him. Mario put up a monster game last week. This week Carolina put extra blockers on him which freed up Okoye. I'm not going to get into a Vince Young vs mario Williams debate because (1) they play different positions and (2) Vince Young never had a realistic chance on ending up on the Texans, but anyone who doesn't think Mario has been performing up to expectations hasn't watched the Texans this season.

In order to justify his cost, Mario Williams only needs to be a top-10 DE. In order to justify his cost, Reggie Bush needs to be the #1 RB in the entire NFL. Mario Williams is a helluvalot closer to being the 10th best DE than Reggie Bush is to being the best RB.

Mario has looked very solid so far this season. Bush has looked horrible. However, it is only two games. I expect both to have success throughout the year.

Even though I'm not a huge Texans fan (I do live in Houston) I think the team made the right decision in passing on Bush. We didn't need a scatback. I still think Vince was the no-brain decision from a football standpoint (everyone knew Carr sucked and QB is the most important position) and a marketing standpoint (drafting him would have allowed the team to compete with the Cowgirls in the state). Dumping Carr one year later and giving up two #2 picks for another QB only added salt to the wound....

That isn't even likely, let alone a fact. What is reasonably likely is that Houston is going to spend $8.5m (his first 2 years cap totals) on a 30 year old running back and then cut him at the cost of a small cap hit, somewhere in the $500k to $1.5m range.

I will tell you as a Redskins fan, no! My team's been trying to do that for the last 15 years, and the best they've been able to come up with has been an aging Bruce Smith and a decent but not great Andre Carter. Good DE's are hard to find anywhere but the draft, unless you want to overpay them in FA or trade an arm and a leg for them. Great DE's simply don't go to other teams because their current teams lock them up and keep them locked up.
