Martz hired by Lions... (1 Viewer)

I want to know what people think of BMW
I have participated and been to hundreds of football games...high school; college and professional. I have seen hundreds of players warm-up and prepare. I caught Williams' act at two Lions games, v. Cowobys & v. Saints, this season. My immediate thought...I have never seen a player half ### pregame or the game itself like he did. It was laughable. This coming from a life long Lions fan and BMW dynasty owner. Marinelli has his hands full with that one. It is still early enough to get the kid on track but seriously, Willliams, grow up.

Marinelli needs to remind Williams he is roughly 2-3 years removed from his days at USC; set down the press clippings and get into the film/weight room; start taking better care of his diet/body and learn what an alarm clock and or watch is and how to use it.

Perception being reality...Williams needs a biblical, end of the world, apocalyptic sized fire lit under his ### and a person like Marinelli stoking it constantly.

As far as Martz, I love the hire. Very mutually exclusive arrangement that should serve both Martz and the team well.
Fragile Charlie Rogers will greatly outperform Mike W. in terms of fantasy production in 2006. Book it!

For Gods sake, FBG is gonna change its name to LION'S DEN. Is Marshall Faulk playing in Detroit next year after spending all offseason in a fountain of youth?????....then why the fuss? Honestly...

The Rams ran the ball a total of 761 times over the past two season (23.8 carries/game).  It's safe to say that Kevin Jones' fantasy value has plunged even further.
I don't know if it can actually fall lower after his pathetic performance this past season. I do agree though that Martz hardly gets the most out of his running backs and especially so when they do not excel in the receiving game. Kevin Jones should definitely be ranked outside of the top fifteen in 2006.
Have you two been consuming too much cough syrup? Martz did a fair job getting something out of Faulk in St. Louis, even with a low rpg average. And the number 1 factor for KJ's success in Detroit remains a stellar passing game, which they very well could have under Martz.C'mon guys.... think this one through. KJ's value goes up with the rest of the skill players in detroit.

Didn't Faulk set the TD record under Martz? If thats not the most then what is?

I guess they're not too cheap, they just like making everything look like a soap opera. It makes them look so smart, and so competent.
It was the Martz camp playing games with the media the whole time, not the Lions.
:goodposting: every bit of info last week was coming from Martz's agent....NOT the Lions.

:goodposting: Bingo. Someone finally said it.

I can't help but wonder if Joey can be the guy in Martz's system. The Rams passing offense relied on the QB being able to stand in the pocket, take the hit(s) and get the ball down the field. The main knock I've heard on Harrington is that he's too quick to dump the ball off when he's feeling pressure.

I think what has yet to be determined is if that is Joey or if that's how he was taught under the Mooch/Moronweg system. When Olson was the coordinator... the last couple games of '04 and toward end of '05, IMHO, you saw more downfield passing... I think it suits him well. We'll see I guess

Joey has said repeatedly that the dump offs were drilled into him by Mooch.....and that he was as frustrated with it as everyone else. much like the O-line problems caused by ridiculously complicated blocking schemes, i think we are going to see that none of the players in Detroit were/are nearly as bad as many around here seem to think. Joey has a great arm and plenty of talent to succeed in the NFL - I honestly believe he is going to suprise a lot of people in the next couple of years. Initially i thought that would be in KC or somewhere else, but with the staff Millen has engineered, he just might do it in Detroit after all. I don't think any QB in history has ever been more unfairly judged and scapegoated than Joey Harrington, and I think Martz is just the man to prove it. You have to know that's part of the reason he took the job.

If they can go 4-2 in the division they may just make the playoffs. I think they are headed in the right direction but then we'll see them draft Santonio Holmes on draftday and you'll be back to square one. Since all my good friends and my Dad are Lions fans, I have no choice but to hope they do well.

Harrington's status will be determined by March 3 because he's due a pretty big signing bonus. I'd speculate the goal is to get him to restructure and come to camp with no guarantees and fight for the job with Orlovsky and possibly a vet they bring in.

But if Martz doesn't think there's any hope for Joey, Joey will be gone come March 3.

I would have to think Martz feels good about the skill position players or why else would he have taken the job?

Martz is also serving as the QB coach....I have to believe he took the position with that caveat precisely to see what he can do with Joey. I think Harrington will restructure and come in as the #1. In all honesty, I really hope he does, because I think he deserves a shot with a real coach.

Joey said after the season that he would be willing to restructure. It's a no-brainer that he'll be back.GO PACK!!

That's probably true, and I hope you're right. Joey threw downfield plenty at Oregon. He never looked to me to be very comfortable in the pocket the past few years, but again, that could be because of the system.
