Matt Cassell traded to BUFFALO (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

Matt Cassel will start Friday's preseason opener against the Panthers.

Cassel gets the nod over E.J. Manuel and Tyrod Taylor. It suggests he has his nose in front of this hideous three-man battle, but this job is far from decided. Coach Rex Ryan has already said he may not even name his starter until just before Week 1. No matter who wins out, they'll be asked to hand the ball off and avoid mistakes as the Bills try to win games with their defense.

Rotoworld:

NFL Network's Albert Breer reports Matt Cassel has been "much better" in camp than he was in OTAs.

Breer points toward Cassel's foot getting back to 100 percent as the reason. Nevertheless, Breer has also reported that Tyrod Taylor could lock up No. 1 duties with a strong performance against the Browns on Thursday. The Bills have been hinting for days that they want to hand the reins to Joe Flacco's longtime backup.

Rotoworld:

Matt Cassel completed 6-of-7 passes for 38 yards in Buffalo's third preseason game.

E.J. Manuel started, with Cassel the No. 2 quarterback through the rotation. Cassel nearly threw a pick-six on a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage, but managed to avoid making any other mistakes. The Bills can't be overly impressed with what the saw from Cassel. Cassel is 13-of-15 for 83 yards in two preseason appearances.

So how much money did this guy make because he was a USC QB (backup) and then a Patriots back-up?

$63 million dollar contract. Unbelievable. 28 mil guaranteed. That is nuts.

Drafted in the 7th round. This might be one of the biggest heists in football history {the Herschel Walker trade notwithstanding}.

Think about that. The guy hadn't started a game since high school. 28 MILLION dollars guaranteed.

Your timeline is off. He had started 15 games since high school when he signed that contract.

You can complain about the money but his career passer rating is on par with Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez and those guys were paid just as much, if not more.

Yep, Scott Pioli never met a Matt Casselioni he didn't like.

(Scott "The Brain", now resides with the Falcons, btw)

As the de-facto starting QB? This might be semantics, but tell me, when was the last time he started, on merit alone?
