Matt Jones suspended for 3 games (1 Viewer)

Any serious news on this guy?.. I picked him up about 2 days ago because the owner dropped him thinking he was suspended. I'm in a PPR league and he's been playing lights out. Is he going to suit up for week 9?
I think once tomorrow's practice report comes out, you will know for sure, but I agree with what has been posted above; generally the NFL wont suspend a player after Tuesday.

Looks like he is a go for another week.

I think I will still him over Dwayne Bowe this week as I don't like the prospects of Thigpen vs that Bucs Defense.

I may have to start him this week vs. 'nati. He should have a decent game, but I'm hoping he starts the suspension soon.

Nice... I needed him this week with a lot of my players hurt or on a bye. I also hope they reduce his suspension because I got him off the waiver wire with the initial scare, the owner dropped him outright, in my pass heavy PPR league he's 10 pts below Roddy White. If he can manage to survive this suspension and keep his level of play up, i just got myself a bargain.

Any info on Mike Walker's injury, assuming Matt Jones is out. I'm sure having the right WR going against Detroit would be a nice bye week fill-in for some people. The problem is deciding on Walker, Williams, Porter.

Are we assuming Jones will be out this week? I'd sure like him for the Detroit game. Any homers care to speculate?

I don't really care about week 10... but I need this guy to get suspended soon if he's going to get suspended at all. If he's getting 3 games and the way he's playing, I really want/need him for playoffs. Goodell is doing a great job of screwing us Matt Jones owners for later usage.

I hope he gets fined again!

Porter says Jags' Jones shouldn't be playing

-- First, Joey Porter picked on Brandon Marshall. Now, the Dolphins linebacker is going after Matt Jones.

On a conference call with reporters Wednesday, Porter said he had no idea how the Jaguars receiver could still be playing despite having a felony cocaine charge against him earlier this year.

Porter, who called Marshall "soft" and a pouter after Miami's win in Denver last weekend, made his comments after being asked about the NFL's crackdown on big hits that are deemed illegal and dangerous. Early in the season, commissioner Roger Goodell sent a warning letter to teams telling them, among other things, that first-time offenders would be subject to fines.

"If I knew the answers, I'd still have 20 more thousand dollars," said Porter, who was fined $20,000 last month for criticizing referee Ed Hochuli after a loss to Houston. "But I'm still trying to figure out how a guy gets caught with cocaine in his car and still plays the game and nothing happens.

"He got caught with cocaine and Matt Jones is still playing football. How does he get away with that? And then you fine people $20,000 for making comments to the media about the refs. The guy got caught with cocaine."

In July, Jones was charged with cocaine possession when a police officer in Fayetteville, Ark., saw him inside a parked car allegedly cutting up cocaine with a credit card.

Last month, Jones agreed to enter into a drug treatment program that could erase the felony charge against him.

The NFL suspended Jones for three games, but he appealed the suspension and is awaiting a final decision.

Asked on Wednesday _ before Porter made his comments _ if he would like to get the looming suspension over with, Jones said: "You definitely want to, but it's not my choice. I'm going to play as long as I can and whenever, whatever, you go through it."

Porter, meanwhile, also responded to the comments Marshall made about him Monday in response to Porter's initial comments the day before. Marshall called Porter soft and said he had "popcorn muscles."

Porter said he didn't know what "popcorn muscles" are.

"Nope. I know Orville Redenbacher. I know popcorn," he said. "But I'm not worried about that. That game is over. I'm looking at Seattle. For him to still be on that, I did get in his head, obviously. He's wasting time. They have a game tomorrow. I'm worried about me. I left Denver three days ago."

Denver plays at Cleveland on Thursday, while the Dolphins play the Seahawks on Sunday. Miami doesn't play Jacksonville this season.

Is it just me or did Porter just break The GUY CODE? You just dont talk about another mans business. Right? I think if you look in the MAN LAW reference. Chapter 12 ref code: 113485.22 you'll see that he clearly broke the law.

Speak for yourself. It's his best matchup of the season and with with this being the last week for bye weeks I need him more this week than any other time this season.

Yup. I think it's a complete joke he hasn't been suspended yet but I'll happily take advantage of the league's incompetence and start him against a putrid Detroit defense.

I think it's pretty standard for the appeal process to take this long. Duece Mcallister learned of his suspension before Matt Jones did and his appeal is not expected to be heard for another week or so. I think, and this just my opinion, that Goodell decided to be a little more judicious with regards to suspending players than he was in the past. I think he's more willing to let the players at least present him an argument.

No news is good news.
Not for me, I need to know whether to start Cutler tonight. I don't think Garrard's worth the chance without Jones, even if it is Detroit.
If Jones hasn't gotten suspended yet, he's likely to play this week. Like what's been said before, suspensions usually come down no later than Wednesday so teams can prepare for the upcoming week. With that said, I think you should start Cutler.

He was caught with coke and essentially admitted to the charge by entering the drug program. McAllister is denying any wrongdoing. I'm sorry but it's a joke Jones' appeal has gone on this long. As someone who's starting him this week I'm thrilled as hell and I hope he has a monster game, but his suspension should have started weeks ago.

Well, thanks packer and deuce, I didn't mean to turn it into a WDIS question, just more venting a bit at needing to know.

Good point from Deuce, if it were going to happen, it certainly would have been announced by now.

I fully understand the difference in the cases but keep in mind Jones appeal is not just appealing the suspension it's appealing the length of the suspension. That's a pretty big difference because a process has to happen for Goodell to gather his facts on Jones especially since this is his first offense and I do believe he's going to get his suspension reduced to one or two games.

I guess I just think these types of obvious things should be resolved sooner. From a fantasy perspective and someone who's starting Jones this week I'm elated. I just think as an NFL fan, the process is messed up.

Very possible factor is that Jones situation occurred with outside authorities, while Duece and the others were caught by NFL testing. Thus, in their own circle is easy to get at the heart of the issue. Just a thought...

We better hear something... TODAY.
Via Sportsline Fantasy Player Outlook:The Jaguars didn't have any new information about WR Matt Jones' suspension status on Wednesday. Jones and the Jaguars are still waiting to learn his fate stemming from a violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy. In late October, a judge accepted Jones into a drug treatment program that could erase his felony charge. Jones is appealing a three-game suspension, and the NFL does not comment on suspensions until after the appeals process is over. Spokesman Greg Aiello said though appeals differ, the league likes to finish them as quickly as possible.(Updated 11/06/2008).Fantasy AnalysisAs long as he's not suspended, keep him active because he's playing great. He's going for his fourth game in a row with at least seven catches in Week 10 at Detroit and has 29 catches for 351 yards and two touchdowns in his past five games. It's too bad Jones has the possibility of a suspension looming because he has been a breakout receiver this year. He now faces the Lions, who haven't been able to stop anyone with their secondary, so look for Jones to stay hot. He has proven to be a No. 2 Fantasy wide receiver this year, which has been one of the biggest surprises this season.

So Jones is due for a 3 game suspension for being arrested for possession. He then enters a rehab program which would lead me to conclude this is not the first time he has partaken of da bouncing powder. Logically does this not lead to a 4 game suspension under the leagues drug testing program?

I agree with what Goodell is trying to do. Unfortunately, he just does not have a plan. He should post in the shark pool, take in the advice, and come up with a uniform penalty policy. If he doesn't, his noble intentions might not leave the legacy he is intending.

Good thing this country's legal system doesn't run on assumptions. There is no evidence that Jones has ever actually used drugs that I know of. He was found in possession, not ripped flying high. Also, he never tested positive for anything illegal by the police or the NFL as far as I know. This is his first offence. He is probably forced into the treatment program as part of his plea deal, that doesn't even mean he has used, just that the court told him "we'll let you walk if you take classes" or whatever. Gotta work with the evidence man.

The evidence shows that he got busted with coke on him. That's illegal. If you are gonna suspend a dude for getting in a fight with his security (no one arrested), or another dude for an altercation at a nightclub....then you can't let dudes who get busted with drugs (illegal and you have a no drug policy) continue to play. That's asinine....

You are right. I did make assumption. Earlier in the thread it was stated "Jones was arrested and charged with one count of cocaine possession on July 10, when a Fayetteville police officer saw him inside a parked car allegedly cutting up cocaine with a Foot Locker credit card. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine" I guess that was his first time and lucky for him, he was actually caught before he snorted.

I do not know how long coke stays in one's system. I do not know how frequently NFL players are tested. I did not know that the legal system would send someone to treatment if they did not have an addiction, although that seems about right. It would seem reasonable to me that when a player like Jones or Santonio Holmes is caught with an illegal substance they would be tested shortly afterwards by the NFL.

I was just pointing out that if one did make assumptions, it might be reasonable to assume that an additional suspension should be on its way. I guess I was also hoping that a more knowledgeable person like yourself might educate me as to whether or not this seemed feasible and if it did not why? Which I have received. Thank you.

then you can't let dudes who get busted with drugs (illegal and you have a no drug policy
The drug policy is explicitly laid out in the CBA, there are well defined consequences that Goodall MUST adhere to (ie is contractually obligated). The conduct policy is much more at his discretion.

Can we stick to whether he is suspended yet or not in this thread? So any update?
The NFL does not suspend players this close to the games so you won't be getting any new news. He's playing this week and Monday and Tuesday of next week you can start watching for suspension news again.
