Is it true that the main event won't start until after midnight eastern time?
Yeah, no big Vegas fights start till at least midnight.
When is the fight?
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will face off on Saturday May 2 in Las Vegas. Doors open at the venue at 2pm local time, with the first fight at 3pm and the main event five hours later at around 8pm.
They have announced that the fighters are expected to make their way to the right @ about 11:00 eastern with the fight to start ~ 11:20 eastern. These things never go according to schedule. With Mayweather's ego, you have to think he'll drag it out. Plus, you never know if he needs to warm-up on a couple of his exes in the locker room first.

yup, can't imagine this fight actually starting on time. figure more like 11:45 eastern until they walk to the ring.

Hate that west coast bias crap. All these fights happening at midnight all the time. So silly.

"Plus, you never know if he needs to warm-up on a couple of his exes in the locker room first".

#######g hilarious.

Why are people saying this is going to be a great sports day and then go on to mention horse racing as one of the reasons?
I love the derby, one of the best days of the year with or without a major boxing match. Only thing that could make Saturday even better for sports would be if the Bulls/Cavs played game 1 and Spurs/Clips played game 7.

My buddy in Acuna is having some friends over to watch. I don't know if he's buying it or what, but he's old school Mexican, so I doubt he's paying much if anything.

20 years ago I would have bought it, but De La Hoya/Quarte ruined boxing for me, at least as far as paying for the chance to get screwed.

I would absolutely hate living on the east coast for TV/sports purposes. I'm not sure i'd be a sports fan on the west coast.. almost nothing would start and end when i wanted it to.

Central time is bad enough.

I'd be far more into all of it if I lived in Mountain time... or Hawaii.

I love it when my baseball team played on the eastern time.. baseball starts at 6:10 PM and ends at a great friendly time.

When they head to the West Coast I don't even bother.

Really? I love Central far more than I did Eastern for sports purposes. I'm an Angels fan, so those late-starting games suck enough on Central, Eastern they were horrible. The only thing I think I would dislike would be the early start times for NFL games on Sunday and college games on Saturday. 10:00 is a little early to shut down chores around the house. Prime time stuff though? I think I would love being able to go to bed at a reasonable time.

my post was messed up. I would hate living on the East coast for sports purposes.. i'd love living in mountain or west.

You're right.. West > mountain > central > East. I'm jealous of the 10 am start time of NFL games on Sundays... I'm jealous of the 3:25 PM start time for the Super Bowl.. and of the 6 PM start time for MNF.

I"m not sure how an east coaster functions... do you guys not start work until 9 am or something? Do all sports fans have to get used to either staying up until midnight every night or later or do you just give up?

Yes,

As I have gotten older and have lost interst in sports I just tend to tune out but if i wanna stay up for a big game, does kinda suck.

Going to a big game sucks even more.

Living in NJ if you go into NY you could get home at 130+

My GF is Filipino and her family always orders the fights. So yea, I will be watching but I am more looking forward to the strange assorment of Filipino food that will be available.

They do the fish pies? Like the fried apple pies from McDonald's, but with fish instead of apple. I was in Manila for work for a few weeks years ago and just couldn't do it.

I just gave-up. Titans on MNF, TNF, or Sunday Night? No way I'm attending. I've got young kids, so my schedule isn't set to "24 year old working in restaurant industry".

:lmao: I've never heard of or seen fish pies before but they sound, um, typical.

A couple of the dishes I'm looking forward to are Kare Kare, which is ox tail in a peanut sauce with shrimp paste on the side, and Crispy Pata, which is fried pig knuckle. Yum.

Yep. My son is having a belated 14th birthday/slumber party and having about 15 friends over. They get the basement. I get the main floor.
can you get the fight on multiple tv's for one price?
I asked that question when I ordered it and they said if I'm getting the high def broadcast (which I am) that any of my TVs that get the Comcast high def signal will get it. Damn well better.

I thought De La Hoya vs Quartey was an incredibly entertaining fight. Was it because you didn't agree with the decision?

No, because I realize they are selling us a product that expired years ago.
No different from Hagler-Leonard, Tyson-Holyfield, and many other matchups. Hagler-Leonard in 1982 when originally discussed would have been right at each fighter's prime but the event would have been much less grand. Same with this one. If May-Pac can live up to that legacy, I'll be quite happy.

I thought Ike Quartey beat Oscar, but because the fight was in LV, you knew that a decision would go to Oscar. I am watching the fight again now on youtube and I have it even through 6. If you remember, the 6th round is when it got real interesting. Oscar knocked down Ike early in the round but Ike came back and put Oscar down and almost ended it.

Great fight! I remember I had Quartey up by 1 point going into the final round, and then...

And I was NOT rooting for DLH.

i was thinking the same exact thing today...people saying its 5 years too late...really? These are 2 world class athletes in prime condition in a fight both want to win more than anything...how could this not be entertaining? The story lines and background players are so good ...2 of the best fighters in the world are going to finally settle whos the best pound for pound fighter alive ...i think its funny that i never hear anyone complain how old the top fighters are in MMA ...most of the fighters are in their 30`s...just like pac and may...and dont forget ...styles make fights and these 2 match up well ....the hand speed from both fighters wil be blazing and amazing to witness in the same ring...this fight will live up to the hype ...bank on on it

I just finished watching again. I scored it 115-114, Quartey. I believe that is what I scored it 16 years ago. I had Oscar down by 3 going into the 12th. I thought that he needed to knock Ike out to win.

$25 to watch it at the sports bar at the Meadowlands with the Derby at 6:20? Hmm, this I might do. I usually go there to watch the Derby anyway.

Actually any track showing the Derby might be the best bet for a reasonably priced cover for this.

Yeah, I kind of thought Ike won that fight as well (probably by a point), but man was it was a helluva fun fight. I'm going to have to watch that again!

So what is the worlds reaction if Manny wins?

Im a layman when it comes to boxing.

I didbt even know about FMs domestic violence til this thread.

They are making so much money off this fight that I can see Manny winning a decision to set up a rematch in 12 months. Hard to walk away from $100M payday. If you think that it is not influenced by big money, then you have no idea how boxing works.

Would Floyd give up the perfect record for that much?

People will be very happy. He is the good guy and despite being the fighter of the decade, is also the underdog.

I moved from the east cost, to central time, to west coast (well, sorta AZ is half mountain time, half pacific).

I love walking up with like an hour or two before football starts and I love never being up past midnight to watch a sport.

Undercard

Two fights will be televised, but there are four taking place before those at the MGM Grand.

The undercard is subject to change, but here is the latest running order:

Televised PPV undercard:

126 lbs: WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion Leo "El Terremoto" Santa Cruz (29-0-1, 17 KOs) vs. Jose Cayetano (17-3, 8 KOs)

126 lbs: WBO Featherweight Champion Vasyl Lomachenko (3-1, 1 KO) vs. Gamalier Rodriguez (25-2-3, 17 KOs)
Undercard sucks. Santa Cruz is a fun pressure fighter and has potential to be in some big fights against the best of his division. Lomachenko is awesome, one of the best amateur fighters of recent memory. His one loss was a world title shot...it was his 2nd pro fight. He is legit. Too bad neither of them are facing anyone of note.

Agreed. Rodriguez isn't a tomato can, but he's hardly in Lomanchenko's class.

Just marking this thread for when OPM finds us a decent link on Saturday
I actually might not even be able to watch. Relay for Life is this weekend. I'll be out trying to find a cure for cancer while you savages get drunk and watch two men punch each other in the face.
I don't think walking around in circles, or even running in a circle, will figure anything out.
Meh...they don't even do the walkathon thing any more.

But my team has raised almost $20K this year.

You have fun putting money into the pockets of a wife beater though.
