McDonald's year over year sales were terrible. How would you fix (1 Viewer)

So additional equipment requirements for store owners

Potential of additional shrinkage costs due to keeping additional menu items ready for sale

Catering to slackers who sleep in late

Risk of cannibalizing sales of other menu items

Sounds like a plan
Yeah, I'm pretty skeptical of this plan.

I think so much of McD's success had to with their efficiency. Now, it didn't produce great food, obviously, but I think people went there because they knew they'd get consistent food, really fast and cheap. At McD's, of all the fast food places, you were less likely to get the dreaded "please pull forward....."

I don't see how this doesn't slow them down, increases costs, or both. Maybe I'm wrong, and if anybody can get it figured out, it's probably McD's, but it doesn't make a ton of sense to me.
They would have to be busy to get slowed down.

McDonalds now trying Grey Bun burgers in China...following BK's black buns.

The all day breakfast is causing turmoil in the chains...they're saying it's causing their profits to plummet because people are buying the cheap breakfasts instead of the crap burgers.

And that failed "love" campaign they tried...ugh.

Someone...a few someone's really needs to be fired.

I worked at McDonald's in my younger days (admittedly a little bit ago) and we had to changeover everything in the kitchen when we transitioned from breakfast to lunch/dinner. I wonder how they'll manage to make everything all day?
heard on the radio that some locations might have to remove certain menu items to make room for the all-day breakfast needs in the kitchen, but they didn't allude to what might be removed, so that may have just been referring to some of the branches that have special 'regional' menu items
Crap. It looks like my local one dropped the premium mcwrap. It was my go to when we'd end up getting McD's for some reason.

They still have the snack wraps, but they aren't the same. I'm not really interested in the breakfasts, so that's a net loss for me.

I never liked it but did take my kids there once, they did't like it either. My wife does like their coffee though.

I keep find it amazing how little the employees know about their menu. If you like a brunch style burger allow me to share.

Bacon Double, 86 da pickles, add one round egg(poached style), ask them to change the fries to hash browns and then shove that under the burger between the bun and bite down. Pretty yummy and masks the pitiful meat but obviously don't be eating this crap all the time.

Another problem has been that quite a few stores (like the ones here) don't quite have enough all-day breakfast demand for them to constantly keep stuff like sausage, eggs, etc. ready to be assembled. So if someone orders breakfast, they have to make it to order - can be nice for the customer as long as you're not in a hurry, because you get fresh stuff - but the employees/owners aren't happy because it's extremely inconvenient and kills their order times. Their sales are rebounding due to this all-day breakfast gig, but franchisee morale is not.

Leave it to Gordon Gekko to put forward a thought out plan to save a company.

I don't think a hot dog burger would work.... That sounds like a joke written by a late night tv show host. That said if you added hot dogs to the menu... Now that could be a winner. Easy as hell to make. Low cost. Can be made quickly if you need more. Chili is easy as well. You already got chopped onion. Jalipinos are cheap. The cheese would need to be an up charge.

I could see two loaded hot dogs, fries and a Coke for $4.99.

Not quite as cheap and easy as one would think. Now, of course, McD's could do it much more cheaply, but I've got about $1.10 in a hot dog with chili, slaw, and onions. Now, my biggest cost is in the chili, and McD's would have so much soy and filler in there that they'd do it much cheaper.

They'd probably find a way to get the 2 dog, fry and drink down well under $4.99. They'd have to. Even if it weren't actually the truth, people would assume there's so much crap in a McD's hot dog, they aren't going to pay more than they would for a gas station hot dog.

They could cut costs and certainly make some money on hot dogs, but the bigger issue would the logistics. They'd be introducing a whole host of new ingredients to the store. Hot dog rollers (I assume) and/or a place to keep them hot, then a place to keep chili hot and slaw cold. Assembling the hot dogs too actually takes up more space than you might imagine too, especially considering hot dogs get ordered in bulk.

They'd figure it out, of course, but it'd add stress to their current operations and either mean other menu items would have to go and/or take longer to get out. Whether it's worth all that for a fairly low-profit item......probably not for McD's.

McDonalds stock is at an all time high. Sales were up 4% for the third quarter. In China, they were up 26%. Net income for the third quarter was up 23 percent to 1.3 billion

What exactly is the problem?

Oddly enough...I think they've switched to the brown bag to blend in a bit more.

That stark white bag with McD's colors stood out across the parking lot.

In today's more health conscious world...getting out of your car with a large McD's bag is embarrassing to some.

That's the thing really...McD's is so tarnished that's it's embarrassing to admit you eat there.

Agree 100%. If I have any McDs trash in the car and wifey slides in for a spin, she will make me walk it once we park to the trash can, hate it.

McDs should come out with special bags for their healthier options like salads and such. Maybe a green bag so folks would know you weren't eating the McDoubles.

That's a interesting observation.

And a pretty :( one for MCD if they actually had to come to that conclusion.

A big problem for McDonald's in recent years was cattle herds were too small. When that happens, it takes years to fix and needless to say it hurt McDonald's profit margins since beef got more expensive. Herd counts have caught up to demand and beef prices have been in free fall for 6 months, which is going to help make McDonald's a lot more profitable. Wouldn't be surprised if the dollar menu returns and prices get cut.

Haven't fallen at the grocery store.

Beef prices have fallen quite a bit at Sam's and my food suppliers over the last year (though they are now creeping back up).

In Nov '14, a case of 80/20 ground chuck was going for between $3.25 and $3.40 per pound. Around a couple months ago, it had dropped down to about $2.10/pound. It's now back in the $2.70 range.
