McNabb v. Cardinals (turkey day game) (1 Viewer)

This is definitely a tough one. I can't believe how many people in this thread are wanting to sit Thigpen over McNabb. With the numbers Thigpen has put up in the last few weeks I would much rather have Thigpen starting for me this week. I think he is a lock for 220 yards and a couple of TDs. he has only thrown for less than those numbers 1 time in the last 5 weeks (against TB when he caught a pass for a TD).I would love to have the choice of Thigpen but instead I have Pennington or Sage.I am leaning towards Sage but this thread has me rethinking it plus I want to start McNabb just so I have something going Thursday night.
The Raiders made Cutler and Delhomme look pretty bad. I don't think Thiggy is as safe as you think. Not saying that I wouldn't start him, but...
Alot of teams making both those QBs look bad lately, no?On the other hand, the Chiefs defense hasn't stopped anyone (hello, Buffalo score 54 points agianst them) and the offesnse has been putting up decent numbers lately. IMO Fargas, McFadden and Co will put up some points and the Chiefs will be forced to throw to keep up. Chief D is not only bad but banged up.Wish this site would allow a friendly bet, I would be willing to put a friendly wager that Thigpen outproduces McNabb. Again, doesn't matter for me, I don't own Thigpen. I own McNabb, Rosenfels and Pennington. Leaning towards Rosenfels.
I'm coming around to your way of thinking. Just picked up Thigpen. In the lineup. Will still debate this up until kickoff tonight. If I'm too busy eating, the default is Thigpen.

Wow. A lot of McNabb hanger-ons here. I don't have him (never have-never wanted him), but I don't think this is a good time to be hanging anything on him. A number of reasons.1. Short week. Not much time to prepare (or shake last Sunday)2. How often does McNabb perform well without a healthy Westbrook? No Buckhalter either.3. THIS ONE"S A BIG ONE---> Playing at home in front of a sauced crowd that is absolutely fed up with him. I'd bet at least half of them will be there just to ridicule him into submission. Signs, chants "McNabb must go." You bet. I've been there, I know what they're like. The most brutal fans in the league.4. This will be anything but a ball-control game. Warner will be slinging it all over the field, per usual. Does anybody realistically think that McNabb will have any success trying to match him? He'll be pressing, and that's when he gets into trouble. 5. McNabb can no longer escape pressure. Arizona coach Whisenhunt understands that, and knows how to bring pressure. HE'S FROM PITTSBURGH!6. Last but not least, McNabb is better at throwing up than throwing touchdowns in a pressured environment. Reid and McNabb have lost their fans, and it's going to be ugly. The fans have already conceded their season, and have nothing else to cheer about. The Eagles and McNabb would be better off on the road. Fair warning.
Excellent analysis... :hey:

Seven - The number of times I flopped back and forth between McNabb and Thigpen. Finally rolled the dice and went with McNabb. He's back

Benching seems to have fired up both him and the team. Also shows that a healthy Westbrook helps in a BIG way.

Downside is they have quite the tough schedule coming up (except for Cleveland) - they play Washington, Dallas, and the Giants.

I posted this in a few other threads, but I am starting him in three leagues without hesitation. Granted, my backups aren't great (Thigpen, Campbell, S. Hill), however I think he is going to have a great game and the Iggles are going to win. I think I predicted something like 270 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT, 30 rushing yards. We'll see, but I think this is going to be a shootout and you will regret it if you bench McNabb (except for the guy who is deliberating sitting Brees...you are kidding, right?).
Sorry if this is against board etiquette, but I nailed this one. He ends up with 260 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT, 24 rushing yards. And the Eagles won in a shootout.

nice call :lmao: had him in over thigpen myself, lots of thanks for all who posted in here, I think it swayed me his direction.

I'm not sure I consider Dallas or even Washington a bad matchup. Dallas gives up yards and points just as much as most teams(if Seattle were even decent they would have had 20+ points) and the Skins seem to be falling off lately. I don't see any reason why McNabb won't be a top-10 option down the stretch and I kinda thought that before tonight's game anyway. If the Eagles do pull out a couple of these games and McNabb looks good in the process, it will that much tougher to move him(or easier if they are completely sold on doing it)

I have McNabb penciled in over Rosenfels. It's a team QB thing, so if he gets yanked again I still get Kolb's points. I just noticed Matt Ryan is sitting their on the waiver wire in this old school notebook league (where people don't have easy access to free agent stats). I'm tempted, but I think McNabb will be fine
glad I stayed away from Ryan. sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make. thanks to all in this thread that supported the theory, he was due!!

congrats to those that stuck with McNabb. I went with Thigpen. Good luck to those with Thigpen, Edwards, etc. I need Thiggy to come close to the 28 pts that McNabb put up. Actually, my opponent had Westbrook and Witten, so I probably need him to do better.

What's the best way to cope with fantasy football decisions that appear to have gone wrong? I've been playing this for years, and I still agonize over decisions that were (in hindsight) wrong. Much more than I relish the good decisions.

The answer to this is simple - do not follow last week's results. Every player has great games and bad ones. The trick is not to put too much stock in what a player did last week. If you do, you end up starting guys like Maurice Morris over Brian Westbrook.

#1--Remember that this game is not an exact science. After all the research and agonizing, you've put the person in who you think has the best chance of bringing home a win. Evaluate your reasoning for the next time, and if it's sound then fuggeddaboutit--stuff happens.#2--Probably the same sort of thing Reid was saying to McNabb: "Just forget about that last interception and play like you know how"If your prep is repeatedly unsuccessful then you've got to reevaluate your methods; if it generally works then let it go and get ready for the next round. In my case, this year I've had the luxury of playing matchups with some studs who you would otherwise never bench. In the week 11 games that fell through for me, in part because I played Larry Johnson vs New Orleans over LT playing at Pitt. Coupled with a couple other more expected moves, I left 40 points on my bench and lost maybe my most critical game this season. With the same sort of analysis--something I'd been planning for three weeks--this week I sat Brees at Tampa for McNabb at home against Arizona. Maybe it still won't be the best bet and Brees will somehow score more than the 36 points McNabb gave me--but so far it looks like a good play and I'm in good shape going into the weekend. Gotta love it when a plan comes together!

I'm sorry for getting you to lean my way. I probably should have mentioned I always make the worng call. Pennington on my bench with 39 points last week. McNabb on my bench with 39 points this week.I still think Thigpen will have a good game but may not hit the 4 TD plateau.

Feel like a sucker.

i have rosenfels, hill, and mcnabb and have rosenrosen starting at this point.i usually like to put in players who are on the big stage (monday night, sunday night, etc), but i don't know if i have the stones to start mcnabb with a potential benching. both rosenfels and mcnabb have good matchups but man.......

1. Short week. Not much time to prepare (or shake last Sunday)

No apparent impact.

2. How often does McNabb perform well without a healthy Westbrook? No Buckhalter either.

Bad assumption that Westy wasn't healthy.

3. THIS ONE"S A BIG ONE---> Playing at home in front of a sauced crowd that is absolutely fed up with him. I'd bet at least half of them will be there just to ridicule him into submission. Signs, chants "McNabb must go." You bet. I've been there, I know what they're like. The most brutal fans in the league.

From the NFLN telecast, I didn't see/hear this to be accurate at all. Certainly wsn't a BIG ONE'.

4. This will be anything but a ball-control game. Warner will be slinging it all over the field, per usual. Does anybody realistically think that McNabb will have any success trying to match him? He'll be pressing, and that's when he gets into trouble.

Dead wrong.

5. McNabb can no longer escape pressure. Arizona coach Whisenhunt understands that, and knows how to bring pressure. HE'S FROM PITTSBURGH!

Dead wrong, again.

No worries. That's how it goes some times. I decided to play it safe and hope that Thiggy got me 16-20 points. The potential downside on McNabb scared me away. Now I move to the next decision ... start 2 of Gates, Colston, and Welker....

In a gutsy move, I started McNabb over Favre (who has a good matchup with Denver at home). Certainly now, I am glad I did!

:goodposting: Hardly, but funny nonetheless....

Someone wants to make a slew of predictions/warnings, they need to own up when they end up just about as wrong as humanly possible.
