Michael Turner carted off (1 Viewer)

How much can you overreact about a backup RB? If you have him on your team you're not expecting to use him this year.

Really shouldn't affect his dynasty value, right? If something bad did happen, he would have a whole yr to recover. He already has a body of work from last yr and should still be a mid 3rd pick in most leagues.Rather it happen now then later in the season or the playoffs.
It would probably hurt his dynasty value somewhat, but he would still have the chance to be a starter in another city. The injury is now being described as a shin injury and is supposedly minor.
He has short-term value as LT's handcuff. The handcuff to the #1 back in the league always has value. But yes, most of his dynasty value comes from the hope that he'll land as a starter next year so he has time to show that the injury doesn't mean anything.Likely this mainly means #1 pick owners in redraft no longer have to spend a higher pick than usual to handcuff.

I'm in two leagues that start 30 RBs each week, one of which is heavily weighted toward distance TDs. He has plenty of value THIS year.

Turner has high ankle sprain

Michael Turner's injury suffered Saturday was a high ankle sprain.

He's out indefinitely. Turner was in line for a boost in touches this season, but may miss the first few games. The Chargers could use Darren Sproles as a change of pace for LaDainian Tomlinson or just keep LT2's workload high. Downgrade Turner in fantasy leagues. He was already being overvalued.

This thread is absolutely uninformative. Thanks alot.
This place actually used to be cool...Until people decided to be jerks about EVERYTHING. There IS no info (at this point). So, there's speculation on what happens IF. Deal with it, and quit making this place a cocktail party joke.
:sadbanana:
There IS info. He has a high ankle sprain.
At the time of the idiotic post, there was none. That was my point.

It seems like this is only a real big deal if LT were to get injured in the 1st 6 weeks. (about the time Turner could need to get to full speed with a HAS)

I'm not sure why you'd start Turner otherwise.

Unfortunate, but not too bad.

It is never a good thing when a player gets injured. The good thing is Turner will not be rushed back because he is number 2 on the team, and although he does contribute to the offense he is definitely there as an insurance policy for Tomlinson.

No matter what the situation though the more time Turner misses it is bad news for SD who could have received a first round pick for Turner this season.

I know LT is the number 1 pick, but this has to be good news for LT owners (although having him is good enough) that anytime Turner does not play Tomlinson has a lot less chance of losing any touches or td vulturing, even though it is very minimal with Turner there.

What is the big deal..a backup RB is carted off.
Very "guppy like" comment from a footballguy that I know is a Shark. :goodposting:
I'm pretty sure da Guru was kidding.
I was, but lets face it. If you have Turner in a keeper league a badly sprained ankle is no big deal. Since barring injury to LT he is basically worthless. Unless Norv works him more that Marty did.If you were expecting # 1 or 2 RB production our of him this year your team is worse than I thought.

Update: still no definitive word, but may not be as bad as initially thought.

Thanks for this. I don't know how bad people thought it was...but this doesn't sound all that great to me:“You're not going to get me worked up about injuries,” Turner said. “It's just part of the deal. When he's back, he's back.”

“If we didn't have LT (LaDainian Tomlinson) and he (Turner) was our starting tailback,” Norv Turner said, “I'd be nervous.”

If it's not that bad, why would he be nervous? That doesn't sound like a great outlook (redraft, of course). I mean it might linger into the season and he might not be 100 percent if he had to step in.

My take is that he'll probably miss a couple weeks to get healthy. No big deal, he did the same thing last year midseason and people weren't freaking out. I don't see how this has much of a fantasy impact at all.

just added to rotoworld's update page.......

Michael Turner, who reportedly suffered a high ankle sprain on Saturday, received a positive opinion and is now questionable for the Sept. 9 season opener.

Turner is probably the best backup running back in the league and is a necessary handcuff for all LT2 owners. The injury could have been a lot worse, but the Chargers seem optimistic at this point.

Turner's ankle injury not as bad as first thought

By Kevin Acee

UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER

The Chargers aren't overly concerned about Michael Turner's high ankle sprain, which isn't considered major, but the backup running back could be questionable up to the Sept. 9 season opener against the Chicago Bears.

The news was good about Michael Turner and his sprained right ankle yesterday, the Chargers think.

“It sounded better than you might have thought the night before,” coach Norv Turner said. “He's all right.”

And, besides, this is football, where they never let you see them sweat.

“You're not going to get me worked up about injuries,” Turner said. “It's just part of the deal. When he's back, he's back.”

And, with all due respect to the $2.35 million man, who might be the best backup running back in the NFL, he is No. 2 to No. 21.

“If we didn't have LT (LaDainian Tomlinson) and he (Turner) was our starting tailback,” Norv Turner said, “I'd be nervous.”

Turner suffered a high ankle sprain in the second quarter of the Chargers' third exhibition game Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals. The opinion yesterday was that the injury was not major. Turner could be questionable up to the Sept. 9 season opener, but Norv Turner and General Manager A.J. Smith sounded optimistic.

Of course, Smith was, like Norv Turner, cool about the whole thing.

“You always get the initial prognosis,” Smith said. “It means nothing to me for two days. (Not until) 48 hours later (do) you get into reality – what are we dealing with? Nothing I can do about it anyway. As long as it's not really bad, but we won't know for two days.”

It's probably a matter of looking too much into the quotes. While it still remains to be seen, it sounds like he won't be totally healthy for the opener, but doesn't sound like a multi-week injury. As long as LT is healthy, it probably matters little anyway while Turner recovers.

did an auction dynasty last night

Turner went for $45 out of $500

I was willing to pay 40, but once he hit 45... I was out.

Just said on the SF/SD game that Turner would be good to go for the week 1 game vs Chicago.
Heard them say this too, although it was mentioned in passing by the play-by-play man... they didn't mention a source that I heard.
It's the local SD broadcasters and they said it in passing, but also matter-of-factly so take it for what it's worth. They also said the injury wasn't as bad as was initially thought.
