MixTape Draft - 6+ word titles. Finish your draft and listen to mixes! (1 Viewer)

Jerry update, plz - did he weather all the stormy activity?
Jerry is still alive. The vet game me five more days worth of antibiotics this past Monday. I told her that Jerry was urinating a tad bit, and she said he could be partially blocked, which isn't great, but he'd be dead if fully blocked. We are also just assuming that a UTI is what it is. Tuesday morning he didn't show up when I called him, but it was brutally cold out. It was 24 degrees out with 35 mph winds. Brrrrr  He did show up that night, even though the weather wasn't much better than the morning. He has one 1/2 more days of antibiotics left. The vet wants me to give him wet food every night for a month, and she gave me a months worth of wet food for Jerry, and about a months worth of premium dry food for the whole colony since we know Jerry is going to eat that too. When there are 27 cats out there, I can't control when everyone eats. There are early birds and late comers, and it is usually within a 2 1/2 hour span. The early birds are a bit thicker than the late comers, since they go back for seconds. I wish Jerry would lose some weight. He looks like he ate one of the cats. At least the Vegas guy is gone from the property now so he Jerry won't be getting extra food. Jerry is older than most of the cats out there. He is around 9 or 10. I'll be monitoring him for the next month. Hopefully he'll be ok.

I was surprised the vet (Dr. East) gave me some food. She took it out of her 501c3 feral cat account. She is a retired vet, and does feral and stray cat work. She isn't my regular vet (for my own personal two cats). I met her when she had the street cat project at the SPCA of the Triad. She fixed some of the colony prior to the mass trappings when I was trying to get some of the pregnant ones early. She started a feral and stray cat clinic in another county last year. I guess she knows I get no help financially with feeding the feral community so she decided to help me out with this Jerry predicament, which I appreciate. She gets donations and grants for the work she does. When one of the cats was sick last October, she put him down for me. I noticed one was missing, and went looking for him, and I found him sitting near the barrels, and he didn't look right. I emailed Dr. East, and she said if I can catch him to bring him to her. I tried for two weeks to catch him, and he was declining every day. It was heartbreaking to watch. He would not let me catch him. Finally one morning when I went out there real early to look for him, I saw him lying in the grass in the rain. I thought he was dead, but he wasn't, but he was barely alive. I wrapped him in a towel, and took him to her, and she examined him and determined he was poisoned. He suffered for two weeks, and it sucked so bad. She put him down, and said she would have him cremated. I appreciated that, and he did too. Low Rider is up there in kitty heaven with his buddies Clio, Tiger Lily/Loretta, Puff, Sam, Ozzy, Joey, and Clyde. I'm trying to keep Jerry from joining them.

It sounds like you do great, compassionate work, simey.
It isn't something I wanted to do, but someone had to do something to stop that population out there. If people would just spay and neuter their pets these colonies wouldn't happen. There are clinics that will fix animals at a low cost so there is no excuse not to do it. Please Don't Litter, Fix Your Critter!

I was so hungover when I read this earlier I thought you meant Jerry Garcia. I assumed you were trippin or was having flashbacks and I was like whoa.

Yeah, I was thinking that exact point but figured you were kidding for some reason.

Good point.  And RIP.
There are obvious straight lines from Berry to the Beatles and the Stones and by extension, everything that followed those bands.  The only other person that could make a case would be Buddy Holly but Maybellene came out a year or two before Holly's first recordings.  Elvis of course was hugely important but Berry established the vocabulary of rock 'n roll with his guitar licks and songwriting.

Keith Richards was a huge fan. I think he jammed with Berry at one pointed and Berry punched him. Friend saw the Richards rock n'roll doc and said that was one of the anecdotes.

That would be an idea for a mixtape.  Start with some seminal figure like Berry and build a mix on artists and songs that he influenced.

When sn0mm1s was still young and quite impressionable his parents played in a weekly game of duplicate bridge. Evidence of duplicate bridge can now only be found on clay tablets in cuneiform writing - but regaling stories of this dramatic, edge of your seat game may be overheard at your local retirement community. While these 4-8 couples were battling for the right to be called "The Best Duplicate Bridge Player of The Week" their children were removed from sight. Nothing as childish as children should distract these masters from their craft. Usually, this meant the children were to be watched by Susie - the lone teenager of the shunned and forgotten. "Susie is the boss," we were told in no uncertain terms. Susie's parents were wealthy, avid bridge players, and almost always hosted. Susie had a large bedroom. Susie had a TV. Susie had a TV with a VCR in her ####### bedroom!!! Susie also had an unhealthy addiction to the movie Grease. Sn0mm1s, for a period of months, watched Grease nearly every week. Now, this was not all bad as Olivia Newton-John was added to his first remembered Mt. Rushmore consisting of Lynda Carter, Catherine Bach, and Carrie Fisher - even a young sn0mm1s could recognize talent. However, the older, wiser, more jaded sn0mm1s doesn't know if this is a guilty pleasure, a legit catchy tune, horrible taste, nostalgia of sitting on a bed with a teenage girl (and sometimes her friends), an expression of Stockholm Syndrome, or an amalgamation of them all. But I have liked this song as far back as I can remember:

Round 17

You're The One That I Want - John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John

18.xx Chuck Berry - The Things I Used To Do

This is a pretty easy plug in for me, it's replacing of all people

Bo Diddley
RIP Chuck, thanks for inventing rock and roll and being a pervy weirdo! (well you didn't invent that)

Round 18

Which Way Will She Go? - God Street Wine

A New York City jam band that never quite made it huge but made it big enough to secure spots on the H.O.R.D.E. tour twice the second time being the third to last band ahead of Blues Travelar and The Black Crowes. I went back to the days where they played the 712 Club in Harlem, since a college buddy went to high school with Aaron.

Guy Clark is one of my favorite songwriters. He is in the group of great artists such as Carole King and Kris Kristofferson who wrote great songs that became popular by other people. This song is more associated with Townes Van Zandt, but Guy wrote it and let Townes cover it before he released his own recording. Guy died last May, and left behind a treasure of great songs.

18.xx - Don't Let the Sunshine Fool You - Guy Clark

Get yourself a piece of that rainbow pie

There seems to be a little fuzziness about what this song is called but they consistently use the six word title on the various collections at spotify.  On the single it's only 5 words.  The original blues track by Guitar Slim (and the actual line in the song) is 7 words.  I doubt Chuck gave a damn.  I'll grab it..unless there's any objection.. sorry for the previous boner

18.xx Chuck Berry - The Things I Used to Do

Reminds me, I would have argued for the ampersand if I'd been online for that discussion.. if only because some of these titles from the olden days can be called into question.  I am using an ampersand for a song on my Side 2/extras, one that's not as old but similarly blurry at least on spotify

I'm now going to make an un-Spotifiable selection that will hopefully go over (and it should, because it won't muck up the playlist). If you're going to blow up a school (see round 17) we need the girl he loves in that school to at least break up with him for conscience's sake.  What a psycho. So, who better than the queen of break-ups? I'll make a Spotifiable selection at the end of the draft so that I have a 20-song mix to put together. But for now...

18 - Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

You could always use one of the karaoke/covers over there.. I was doing that for the jukebox draft playlist

Ah, okay. Thanks for the heads up. I have Napster/Rhapsody as my primary music source. I want to switch, and probably will as soon as I can figure out how to cancel (which is darn nigh impossible).

eta* maybe there's a metal cover?

There are a veritable ####-ton of covers of this song, I'd bet some are at least punky

Man, only 3 more songs to go.  Now I am just TRYING to fill in some songs that will hopefully make the mix have a little flow to it.  I guess thankfully a lot is 2 words...

I probably should have been more clear on this.  Live and learn with these drafts and rules and all...  I would have 0 issue with somebody taking a song with & in the title, but it wouldn't count as a word.  If the title was 7 long, and had & in it, the song would be good b/c it would have 6 words in it.  I thought the weenies were the ones that would use a symbol as a word.

I would have argued against that but it's cool.. the song I'm talking about, spotify uses 'And' on the album, but '&' on the greatest hits.  All indications are the song was actually titled with the '&'.  By your rules it would be 5 words.  I would have complied in the draft, though I never seriously considered taking it.. I only realized about the ampersand yesterday, when I was doing some arranging.. but you cannot legislate my extras!

R.E.M. - How the West Was Won and Where It Got Us

This is one of my favorite R.E.M. tunes off of the most underrated R.E.M. record (New Adventures in Hi Fi).  It actually bridges nice with my LCD tunes also.
