MixTape Draft - 6+ word titles. Finish your draft and listen to mixes! (2 Viewers)

For the most part I liked KP's mix. Black Flag and Circle Jerks are the only ones I didn't care for. Songs I didn't know that I liked a lot were from the Buzzcocks and Artic Monkeys. The White Stripes song reminded me that I need to listen to their albums more. I saw Jack White back in 2014 when he played at Farm Aid, and he was great. I was actually surprised at how entertaining his set was. Life got in the way and I didn't revisit the White Stripe albums, but now I will.

Thanks for the listen, simey.   Jack's kind of a doosh, but I love his music, even the side projects.

On a side note, one of my favorite concert experiences was watching Meg White drum.  So hot.

:lmao:

Yeah, that's right - I am 41 year old man, and I just had my dad go on a beer run for me.
Love it. I'm 32 and unfortunately, my dad has been gone 7 years... but all these nights where I say I'm out at a hockey game (and having beers), I'm there with my mom. She usually drives...

  and your mom is loving all these memories she is making being at the games with her boy.

Sorry to hear that.

My parents got divorced several years ago and somehow we inherited my father.  Lives in the basement.

It's not the mixes, as much as the thread with all the wonderful people we have in here discussing songs and life and weed and gin and beer. The FFA is often a hostile place these days and these threads are full of love and mutual enjoyment of great music and talking about simey's cats and supporting each other through real life #### and honestly, we always need a music draft thread or equivalent here because they bring out the good and joy in people where so many other threads are all combative and angry, and pretty much all my favourite people on these boards are in this thread.
Fantastic post.  Couldn't have said it better myself.

Honestly, if it wasn't for music drafts, movie talk (which has faded a bit) and the Kids Get Owned thread, I doubt I would be in the FFA anymore.  Too much BS and negativity.

Another side note, for whatever reason my son hates it when I am in the Kids Get Owned thread.  I usually have tears in my eyes from laughing.  Probably thinks I am getting ideas or something...

My favorite primary doctor I ever had was Chinese, and he told me that it is a honor to have an elder family member live with them.

What do your guys' Spotify Daily Mixes look like?  Seems like I always have a New Wave, 90s alt, 1-2 metal, jazz, and just some random thing.

Thanks simey. I was just going to post a negative comment about my MIL living in my basement and erased it.  Then I read this comment and it made me feel better.  It's by no means easy and she is at times very difficult to live with but she is family.  Sounds like many of us are dealing with similar ####.

My first two are extremely indie, my third was 1000% somehow programmed by @Steve Tasker (Polica, Young Galaxy, Tegan and Sara and More... at least try man  ), #4 is punk (PUP/Brand New and the like), #5 is kind of light-rock (Lumineers/Vance Joy/Ryan Adams) and #6 is classic rock (Beatles, Stones, Petty).

Synthetic weed just got approved for big pharma. The country is a joke. Totally run by corporations.

Me too but I will post it anyway.  Love my dad, but we really have 0 in common, so don't really talk a lot.  Still well worth it to see the kids interact with him though.

Do you listen to these at all?  Seems like they get the bands close for me, but it's usually songs that I dislike - ie nice try with the horrible new Metallica songs in the metal mix...

Rarely. I usually have things in mind on what I want to listen to

JFC - I was listening to some Gin and Juice for the first time in years.  I had 0 clue Snoop had that many albums.  Any of this worth a #### (of course I loved the first back in the day)

Not too much, I find I know a lot of what's in there but I do enjoy my "discover weekly" mix.

Speaking of Snoop, I had It Ain't No Fun (If The Homies Can't Have None) written down for this draft.

Also a couple Cube songs.  Just hard to fit some rap in the mixes sometimes.

You're at least the 2nd, maybe 3rd person who picked the Arkells song out of my mix. It's a good song and they're a really good band, one of my favourites. With regards to them though (I know you've been to one concert in 5 years but in general) and @Steve Tasker will back me up on this. They're a pretty good recorded band. They are absolutely "can't miss" phenomenal live.
I've seen em more than any band ever, and I'm pretty sure you've seen em way more than I have.

Absolutely a fantastic live band.  Every song is an amazing sing-along.  Their albums tend to be growers for me.  But the live show is A++++

I have no idea what this means, but your daily mix sounds fabulous

I do think an all covers draft would be fun too.  I was working on a mix awhile ago and surprised how many songs there were that I didn't know were covers.  Could be educational (for me, anyway)

Alright, tackled @The Dreaded Marco during this night, obviously him and I are very much on the same page when it comes to music, so this isn't all new to me but of what's new...

Twilight Sad - That Summer, At home I had become the Invisible Boy - In my mind, I know this band is good. They have songs I really like but at the same time, never gone deep, never listened to an album front to back, maybe expected them to be more sad because it's in the name? In any case my bad.

Super Furry Animals - It's Not the End of the World -  I know this band, I like this band, I don't listen to this band enough, so damn good.

Galaxie 500 - Don't Let Our Youth Go To Waste - I'm not going to lie, thought this band was a post-rock, instrumental type (Explosions in the Sky, that other Canadian one similar) :bag: , I probably need to dig deeper now .

Eels - In the Yard Behind the Church - I know the Electro Shock Blues album well but not as deep in the rest of this band's catalog. This song is fantastic and an instant repeat for me.

It goes without saying that Talking #### About a Pretty Sunset  and Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl are two of my favourite songs ever. The Walkmen song is amazing. The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth is a Stone Cold Classic. This mix is fantastic and I did know a few previously but also a lot I didn't which makes it ever better.

#3 is pure Canada.....Japandroids, Arkells, Tokyo Police Club, Half Moon Run, Darcys, Sam Roberts
#4 is worldwide.....Alt-J, Wombats, Courtney Barnett, Phoenix, Arcade Fire, Glass Animals

I think I am in the mood for #6 right now.  How do I get access to that??

Looking kind of anxious in your cross-armed stance
Like a bad tempered prom queen at a homecoming dance
And I claim I'm not excited with my life anymore
So I blame this town, this job, these friends, the truth is it's myself
And I'm trying to understand myself and pinpoint who I am
When I finally get it figured out, I've changed the whole damn plan

I know a place
Where the grass is really greener
Warm, wet n' wild
There must be something in the water
Sippin' gin and juice
Laying underneath the palm trees

I was feeling a little bizarre
The day that I buried my family car
In the scrap metal wrecking yard

And I've said so many goodbyes
In the twenty-five years that I've been alive
And I don't know why this one was so hard

And every time when I go back to my apartment
All I wanna do is get stoned
And I'm sick and tired of blacking out on my carpet
And waking up all on my own so I brought you home

You started falling apart
Six months after you moved in
And I should of known from the start
That things would be different

It's not something that I can fix
If I could do anything you know I would
If this ####### vacation would come to an end
Maybe then you'd be normal again

Last week when I went back to my apartment
You were looking so stoned
The day after Christmas you acted so different
You just wanted to be on your own
So I bought you medicine, went to the vet and
Cashed all of my savings and loans
But it was too late, you were letting go

And nothing I say will make it ok
You just sleep in the heat and repeat
You're wasting away
And nothing I do is gonna' save you
I'm trying my best but you can't even
Look at me or talk to me or tell me what's happening to you

Yesterday I went back to my apartment
To see how you've been holding up
You hadn't been eating, I thought you were sleeping, but
You're not waking up
I want you to know that I'd spend every bit of my
Pitiful savings and loans just to see you again
But I know I won't

:lmao:

I think a divorce is around the corner.  First Miley Cyrus a couple nights ago, now the wife just walked out while I was jamming to some Katy Perry.  Just shakes her head in disgust and keeps walking.
