Montee Ball (1 Viewer)

It's telling that no team put a claim on Ball off waivers even with his cheap rookie deal. Like someone said earlier, wherever he lands he's RB4 for that team. So not a whole lot to get excited about.

He should go to Atl; going to Cleveland wouldn't be doing him any favors, regardless of the Browns superior O-line, IMO. Guess I'm just extremely down on the Browns coaching staff & organization as a whole. Atl looks stellar in comparison.

Ball going to Cleveland would be like Ben Tate 2.0

It's kind of funny if you listen to the FF podcasts from AUG '14 only a year ago and listen to the "experts" stand on the table for this guy.

Partial season arguments are some of the worst arguments in this hobby. People still repeat that mistake over and over and over again.
Partial season arguments are no different from preseason arguments or any other argument. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the preseason wunderkind hit rate (like Alfred Morris during his rookie season) was very similar to the partial season argument like Arian Foster's 200+ yard 3 TD end of his rookie season or Le'Veon Bells nice run at the end of his rookie season. I am sure there are hits and misses like there are in all FF trends. It is just like anything else, when big hype falls apart, it doesn't matter if it is after a phenomenal full season (TRich) or a break out partial season (Ball), we all hear about it so it makes it seem to happen more often.

Ball cant pick and chose his team. He has to go somewhere that actually wants him.

Unfortunately, Wisconsin is not actually in the NFL.

Who wants him? Maybe Dallas was interested before trading for Michael but now? Ball is going to have to wait for an injury and even then there are a couple of other backs teams will bring in to take a look at that are unemployed before they sign him.

I know that. My statement was based on the possibly (probably) spurious rumors that linked Ball to both Atl & Clev.

Atlanta might make sense but I don't see how Cleveland makes any sense. They just unloaded a more talented back and like what they have now. I would be shocked if the Browns signed him short of an injury.

I've got a sinking feeling that this is the type of guy who, when the Giants inevitably start losing their fragile RBs, ends up in New York.

Im hoping its atlanta once they realize they don't have a starting rb on that team and have to lean on matt ryan who can never do it all.

They only have two RBs on the roster right now and one of them missed all of preseason with a hamstring issue and then a concussion. It's questionable whether or not West was more talented, but they clearly didn't like his attitude.

Well I doubt he's going to Cleveland after they just claimed Turbin... idk wtf he's waiting on if he's got multiple offers. Make a decision, get in a building, learn the playbook, start competing.

I'm THIS CLOSE to punting here, but as sure as I do he'll land in Atlanta.

I've picked him up several places (over Christine Michael). Pretty sure he'll be starting in Atlanta in a few weeks.

Who was standing on the table?
Well, Mathew Berry(the lead fantasy expert of ESPN a major sports network) was calling Ball a first rounder. Cecil Lammey(the bronco "insider" at Footballguys a popular fantasy football site) not only called Ball a first rounder but said 1300 yards/10 TD's/40 catches was a very reasonable expectation and "BALL is THE GUY!". Those are a couple to start out with.

I was optimistic Atlanta may need them before this weekend, but Coleman/Freeman look just fine. If he signed there I don't know if he would be anything more than third string depth now.

Why does Atlanta supposedly need him so bad again?
Because his delusional owners who are still holding him NEED Atlanta to need him.

They haven't realized that it is quite possible that nobody needs him. And this is coming from a person who said just a few days ago that Atlanta might be the place but, to be honest, they looked better off than I thought they were.

I'm not too familiar with the source, but I'd like to pass this along.

@PetersenWill: SCOOP: Very "salty" Montee Ball watched game in Denver tonight & told friends / family he's signing a deal with the Colts "some point soon"

@PetersenWill: Ha... Just what I was told from someone I trust an awful lot.

So just to follow through here. Does he have any value if he signs with the Colts? I have to assume he is at least worth rostering if this were to happen or am I dead wrong and need to stay away from this guy?

This sounds more like a guy who's embarrassed and says he has something in hand so he doesn't look bad when people ask him what he's up to.

granted, and I totally believe you but hypothetically if this did happen whats the answer to my question?

I'm not in a rush, but I'm adding him in deeper league sizes of 14 teams and up. Gore is 32, Robinson doesn't impress me. Ballard is on IR and Tyler Varga is the 3rd rostered RB. Stranger things have happened.

Hypothetically the Colts have cut Ballard and Herron both. I don't understand either of those moves. They have also contacted Bradshaw, so they're looking we know that. And Gore was really ineffective game 1 albeit vs a great Bills defense. And we know this is a staff or front office that actually thought Trent Richardson was viable.

So I guess it's not impossible. If he were to be on the team though, I'm not sure why he jumps past Robinson who from a distance it looks like they're happy with. And frankly somehow Denver thought Ball was a starter on the same team with CJA & Hillman.

But overall my guess is if they did sign him then he would be the 3rd RB barring injury of some kind.

There's no reason to use a roster spot on a running back right now. Bradshaw is waiting by the phone. So is ball. If both of them got scooped up before you could get a deal done, there's still Pierre Thomas. The running back market is dead right now.

I think Bradshaw or ball would be a tremendous fit for indy, but they're an 0-1 team already working in young receivers to have a bigger role with Hilton injured and seeing what they have in Robinson. It's not a priority.

Of the two, Bradshaw is the surer commodity, but ball is the higher upside guy. He's a power runner, he's got experience working with manning, he can run catch and pass block, and they don't need a top gear from him. He's a worse fit for Denver and also Atlanta because they need guys with speed to the edge.

Its primitive to say ball got cut he sucks. He's a good player. He wasn't the right fit in Denver and the guys in front of him apparently were. He was a good fit under fox and in his one healthy year for fox he put up good numbers. It happens. If he got a chance in the right situation he could be successful and he's young enough to invest in.

Bradshaw is better at all of the bolded things. Especially the pass blocking. He also knows the offense.

Neither is good enough (or in Bradshaw's case young enough) to be the long term answer at RB. I think Ball's ceiling is "solid RB", that won't be good enough for the Colts not to try to draft someone better.

Love these threads and some of the acumen.

The reason Ball - and Bradshaw - have not been signed is because they are not going to come in as depth. Neither one plays special teams and both have demonstrated they can capably contribute as a NFL RB. NFL teams expect their RB3/RB4 to contribute significantly on STs.

That's why DEN cut Ball in the first place. They chose CJ as their primary workhorse and Hillman as their CoP. Ball as the RB3 would have to plat STs and he doesn't. That decision isn't looking so great right now, but maybe CJ will get his act to together.

Any team signing them is looking for immediate impact - and please notice I did not say looking for a bellcow RB1. It will take an injury to a team's top 1/2 RB where there is little to no quality depth for a team to sign either.

It's a waiting game right now, but one that could pay strong dividends when the right situation arises.

Wanna go out on the lake. .....# Madison
Sounds like a guy that really wants back in the league...
Lol. Stalking his tweets?

What exactly should he be doing right now, in your opinion? Sitting next to a land line 24/7?

He may never play again, I don't know. But it sure is difficult to see how this is relevant in any way.
Working his ### off? Treating it like a job still? Not going to the lake on a Wednesday afternoon...

And no, not stalking his tweets. Searched his name on Twitter based on the Colts rumor, and that's the first think that came up.

Many people that work out do so in the morning, can't judge anything by the lake stuff. He could've killed it this morn and wants to relax now
