Which brings us to today. Why is the perception that Ball is a bust?
About all I can say... is that watching him and watching Denver led to me to that conclusion.

Going into my draft in 2014 I had rated as the TWO back ups I for sure wanted were Hyde and CJ Anderson.

I was completely sold on Hyde taking over for Gore because of age. And Anderson taking over for Ball because of talent.
But Anderson taking over for Ball doesn't mean Ball is a bust. It just means Anderson may be better than Ball.Did you think Ball was a bust after his rookie season?
I thought he was more a product of a a superior offensive system. And that eventually they would get more talent into that spot.

I could see him doing well elsewhere, but think they would be looking for the next better option. It seemed Denver had doubts even when he was doing well. No?

Now he already has 2 coaches and 2 systems he has fallen completely out of favor with.

For the record, one of my best buds (who is a splendid ff player) still thinks the world of Ball. He loved him coming out of college.

He swears Ball just needs the fullback centric (pro set) system. And he may be onto something in regards of how Ball plays best.

My favortie Montee Ball memory is the rookie draft when he came out. I had #1 and #2 picks. My friend had #3 and had been talking Lacy up as the guy I should take #1. I was split between all three (Bell, Lacy and Ball) but gave Bell the highest value and he would be my #1. I ended up swinging a trade to my friend giving him #2 and taking #3 for a future 1st. I fully expected to end with Bell and Ball. He took Ball instead- so I ended up with Bell and Lacy and a 1st round pick. Worked out well for me.
That's incredible. That's the type of break everyone hopes for.

EBF, no one cares what you think. you're pissed off that FBG's never hired you. we get it. congrats on moving on to some other site that is willing to publish your rookie rankings that suck balls. your dynasty advice is aids. it's no coincidence that you pick early and often in all your leagues and never win any titles.
That's really uncalled for. You suck balls.

Lets leave all the insults at the door. We want people to be able to talk football without having to wade through this kind of stuff.

I don't even like Sankey much, but what does Ball offer that Sankey doesn't? They're the same guy. I actually like Sankey more.

I think it will be a tepid market for Montee. He's just not that good. Mediocre talent propped up by Wisconsin's system. Had his shot in Denver and couldn't hack it. Droppable now in FF leagues.

(RotoWire)The Falcons are one of the teams believed to have expressed interest in Ball, Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports.

Analysis: After parting ways with Antone Smith, the Falcons could use some running back depth, especially if the team has any short-term concern over the status of Devonta Freeman, who has been dealing with a hamstring issue. In any case, it shouldn't be long before Ball catches on with a new team, with an accurate assessment of his fantasy value on hold until then.

Not sure how I feel about that, because Shanahan runs am offense similar to Kubiak. The good news is he'd have some experience in the system, the bad news is he seemed like a bad fit for it.

Falcons should be fairly far down the list of teams with wavier priority but then again other teams with worse records might have already used up their claims. In other words, I hope he goes somewhere else.

Edit to say: I forgot that Falcons were 6-10 last season so they should have a good shot at getting him.

Seems like it's been long enough that if anyone claimed him through waivers we'd have heard it by now.

I'm expecting he's cleared waivers, think we're waiting to see if anyone signs him (or where, optimistically).

Per Rotoworld

Falcons claimed C Gino Gradkowski off waivers from the Broncos.
Gradkowski is insurance for Joe Hawley, who missed 12 games with a torn ACL last season.

Wavier priority just dropped for the Falcons. As some other poster mentioned in the Browns thread, his contract might be scaring teams off.

All that means for certain is that no team felt the need to pick up his current contract in order to be sure of signing him. He can now be signed more cheaply, I expect.
I don't know the details but have to think it's still his rookie contract which can't be too strapping. This is more than about money.

It's not a great sign he cleared waivers. With the rookie wage scale, his second round contract wasn't cheap, but it wasn't prohibitive.

I would expect he signs more cheaply now. I would also expect him to choose his destination carefully if he cares about his career. Indy (with basically nothing behind Gore but a 5th round rookie), Atlanta, and Baltimore should be on his list as good offenses where he can fill a role.

Houston might be an option as well.

I'm not sure he'll have many options to choose from. He's going to sign with whoever wants him.

Its speaks directly to his value as stated by all all 32 NFL teams.

2015 24 $594,938 $125,000 710k

2016 25 $752,407 $125,000 870k

The Denver Post reports the Falcons have expressed interest in free agent Montee Ball.

Specifically, beat writer Troy Renck says the Falcons have "some" interest. Renck reports multiple teams have reached out. Ball would provide a rugged between-the-tackles element that Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman both lack, but has obviously been a plodder through his first two NFL seasons. At best, he'd be a part of a committee in Atlanta. It's possible he'd be little more than Week 1 insurance for Freeman, who is nursing a hamstring injury.

It just occurred to me - wasn't Montee Ball actually a first round pick for some people last year? Wow, what a fall from relevance.
Yes-- this is what is the craziest of all. He created so much hype last offseason up until the appendectomy and then ruined the lives of redraft players. Now he's not good enough to get claimed off of waivers. I do think he'll sign somewhere and I would expect owners to crave Kyle Shannahan's system in ATL.

I wouldn't mind seeing Green Bay pick him up since he was so good for the Badgers. It might be nice as he could step into a RB3 role at best and there would be no rush to get him in. Actually, I would hope there would be no need to play him ever and he just filled that end of the bench RB spot.

He blows, but still might be better than our third RB

I'd rather see him in indy than Atlanta. He's a much better fit for pep's running game.
I doubt they want TRich's twin. I think THey will sign Bradshaw back up off the street next week.
When did Trent Richardson average 4.7 per carry on a season? And yes, they actually would want Trent Richardson's twin. Richardson looked like the perfect fit for that offense - remember pep calling him an bowling ball made of butcher knives.

Gore is also a perfect fit for the offense, because he ran that exact offense in San Francisco. That's why they went so hard after him. They use a lot of power running with traps and counters - very different from the style Kubiak and Shanahan prefer.

Indy needs a backup and particularly a young guy who can take some of the hits.

I think you're right that the Colts should and probably will pick up Bradshaw after week one, let him serve his substance abuse suspension, and use him to complement gore. But ball is younger and would be a good role player right away who might be able to take on a bigger role down the line. It's a good match for both sides.

Is Cleveland going to do anything with their backfield situation? They have two active RBs, one, Duke, is in concussion protocol and did not practice. Draughn was signed to the practice squad, but that's it.

If they played today it would be Ike and the FB. How do they not even give Ball a phone call?

They are the Cleveland Browns.

:lmao:  Enough said!

I can see Indy, Atl, Hou, or Cle but I've seen that Chicago has interest? Put me in the camp of I'd rather have Langford or Jacquizz than Ball.

I wish the Ravens would sign him for depth purposes. Taliaferro is hurt and Buck has struggled this preseason. Wouldn't mind taking a shot on him and having more depth behind Forsett.

It's kind of funny if you listen to the FF podcasts from AUG '14 only a year ago and listen to the "experts" stand on the table for this guy.

Partial season arguments are some of the worst arguments in this hobby. People still repeat that mistake over and over and over again.

Who was standing on the table?
