MOP's rants about everything! (1 Viewer)

is it narcasisstic to ask you to rant about people with low member numbers?
Post counts?

Some folks have done an incredible job of making up a lot of alias accounts to grab from as needed. I always am Shuked when I see someone with less than 100 posts start going off about topics from years ago.

Good luck on phase two, hope you find what you are looking for.
Just got the call for 2nd round tomorrow at 10 AM, will be meeting with the actual Principal. They must be so desperate to fill this position. I figured they would get back to me in a day or two but same day call back has to be a good sign.

But $80 a day, I'm gonna need some part time sales work at night just to pay my liquor bills. It's OK though, I knew money was not gonna be the driving factor here.

And thanks KC.

Don't private schools pay more? That is like $10 an hour... The school bus driver's assistant is earning more than that and she/he only works 4-5 hours a day.

Maybe you could coach the football team. You could be the Woody Hayes of middle school.

It's not really a private school, it pays what public school does but I don't have teaching credentials. Assume they offer me the position and then they say they like me after I get going in this, then over the summer I gotta do all these credentials and they will issue me an actual teaching contract for the year at regular teacher's pay. It's still not much, maybe $40k but you only work 9.5/10 months out of the year and then I figure I can tutor part time for some extra money if I want.

School doesn't start until around 8:30-9:00, you are done by 3:00-3:30, it's about a 6.5 hours day give or take. But you know you aren't getting rich being a teacher, it just feels better making $40k a year when your 25. There's ways to make more money and for me to generate extra income. I can still work the phones at night form my house and book moves for the upcoming summer anytime I want. I was running a moving company and had some ownership before getting out from it, I only need 3-5 leads a night to make some money with that.

I want to focus on the kids and getting that room to look like the room of kids I saw next to it. If I can do that, mission accomplished. They asked me how I would handle some of the rowdies, when I peered in I could tell quickly which ones looked like hell on wheels. It just looked unorganized, kids like schedules and knowing what is expected of them. I think this person who was teaching them simply not cut out for it.

I wouldn't mind eventually going to a high school and being part of the coaching team there. Football would be fun but I have a lot of skills in Tennis. Not something I talk about much in here but I was ranked as a young'n and I know how to instruct people, teach them how to play, I like that game and want to get back into it.

This is a door way into something new for me. I've had my fun in business but quite frankly it bores me. The place I stopped off at on the way home, I've already gotten 2 texts form the owner/manager there wanting me to be part of the team. These bloodsucking businessmen I've had enough of. I watched my father in his mid 50s get shipped out to pasture in the banking field and then he developed prostate cancer they turned their back on him. He always told me he would have rather been a teacher even though the pay was not great. He regretted it to the day he died, I prefer to bit the bullet now for a better run into my later years.

I talk like I'm an old man, I'm still 39 but if you don't make some changes form what you have been doing then it will never change. I can always go back to sales if I want to, this is something I have wanted to pursue for a long time and I think it's worth a few sacrifices i the beginning.

Hey Sean, you DO know that as a teacher, you take a lot of work home with you. Grading papers, tests, lesson plans, etc. It's not so simple as 9:00-3:00, 6 hours a day as you seem to think. Just FYI.

Dude, you are pretty clueless if you think all a teacher does is work those hours from first to last period. Lesson plans take time. Grading homework and tests take time. Behavioral issues disrupt your schedule. Do you know anything about this type of stuff?

Good info, will be walking around with my red ink pen to grade. Now in social studies like World History, I don't think there will be all that much grading. We get a certain amount of time daily for that stuff, planning hour or something. Plus there will be times when the students might be reading or working on something and I can grade a few papers while that is going on. Take 'em to Starbucks when I get some coffee, I'll work that part in.

I might not have time to do much posting at FBG, I'm sure everyone is pulling for me to get this position :)

How will you handle them?
Could you be more specific please?
Here is the situation:

You are writing on the blackboard, back to the class, you get hit in the neck by a spitball - You suspect two or three kids, but didn't see anything suspicious from them as soon as you turned around. You are now facing the class spit ball on the floor next to your shoes...

Go -
I think that's fair but I also think it is unfair because I need a chance to set the tone, throw a few jabs at them, I doubt someone will do that to me. But I would simply ask who did it? Go form there. A kid doing that IMO, something is not going well in class an ultimately it's the product of the teacher.

They aren't throwing spit balls in the classroom next door, I can assure you so I will find out what that teacher does as far as classroom management and then put my spin on it and make it my own.

I saw a few of the kids in that grade level today, they don't look all that tough and you gotta remember…these are kids who did not want to go to their local school for whatever reason, most of them want to learn and they wouldn't last a day in some of those inner urban schools they are running away from. So they might talk a good game but they'll fold quickly when I check raise them out of their seat the first time.

I'm quick on my feet and have a sharp tongue, that's proven with all my rants. I don't think these kids are gonna want to try and get on my bad side. I know there are going to be a few bad apples but we'll deal with them as needed.

If you're paying for Starbucks coffee, I don't want to hear any more B.S. about how Five Guys burgers are too expensive.

Absolutely not, never taught before.

So you'll ask who did it? I'm gonna be honest, you might want to rethink that strategy.

So you've now taken a spit ball to the neck, nobody has admitted doing it... You stand there and scan the class for 30 seconds before turning back to the chalkboard, BOOM another spit ball to the neck!

that is when he responds by chunking a can of tuna randomly at one kid.

teach everyone the lesson once so he doesn't have any problems later.

I believe we're being led, potentially, on the greatest fishing expedition this board has ever known, and I am pretty damn excited about it.

I'd put a decapitated ant's kid's head on stick in the front of the mound class, to let the rest of them know you mean business.

This MOP teaching is schtick - right? Please?
What do you want to hear? I interviewed a week ago, informal get together with one of the schools better teachers, she forwarded a resume on to the ### Principal who called me in today…I gotta say she was in her early to mid 30s, there was definite eye contact there, I could tell she was listening to me put it that way. I got a phone call a few hours later to come back tomorrow.

I thought maybe they were just doing this to fill an interview quota since I'm the minority candidate here but it seems like they want to get serious about it.
