Mount Rushmore Comedies (1 Viewer)

Old School
Groundhog Day
Trading Places
Stripes
Elf
Napoleon Dynamite
Office Space
Superbad
Zoolander

You could pick any of the 4 from above and I wouldn’t disagree

The Big Lebowski
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Caddyshack
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Many honorable mentions:

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Animal House
Blazing Saddles
The Naked Gun
Dumb and Dumber
Wedding Crashers
40-Year Old Virgin
The Breakfast Club
There's Something About Mary
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
The Life of Brian
Fletch
Vacation
Christmas Vacation

The list goes on and on...

Off the top of my head these 3 are probably in

Being There
Naked Gun
Spaceballs

Would have to think about the 4th. The first time I saw the South Park movie I laughed so hard my face hurt. I’d probably put something in front of it though

Maybe Christmas vacation

1. The only lock for me is Airplane!. It created a new genre and was great then and still holds up today.

2. I think you need a Mel Brooks one in there, and the favorite is probably Blazing Saddles.

3. The early SNL crew were a pretty big influence on comedy movies with Murray and Chase being the top dogs. The only great movie with them both is Caddyshack, so I put it on here.

4. The HS teen comedy genre has become a staple over the last 40 years and so I think they would need a representative. The one I think encapsulates it best (and had multiple sequels) was American Pie.

Honorable mentions: This Is Spinal Tap, Dumb and Dumber & Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

These aren't necessarily my favorites, but I think it is a good representation of comedy in my lifetime. There aren't any great comedies prior to the late 70s that I have watched (Duck Soup gets a lot of love on all time lists).

My personal list would have Christmas Vacation, Groundhog Day, Ferris Buellers Day Off and Ghostbusters.

Airplane!
Dr. Strangelove
Holy Grail
A Mighty Wind

I also don’t get the love for Caddyshack at all, never have. I’ve tried many, many times but it just sucks.

I like so many comedies. I don't know that I could settle on a Mt Rushmore of 50, never mind 4.
Here's a couple that I would consider but I don't think we're mentioned yet.
A Fish Called Wanda
What About Bob
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
