Mr. Robot (1 Viewer)

Something about the pacing of the show makes it seem longer than an hour almost every time. In a good way. I never feel like 'Wait, that's it?' like I do often do with GoT, Better Call Saul,  and some other big shows.

Spoiler

Man, those fsociety kids sure got a big set of balls
last night's episode was 90 minutes.

so you knew the two big reveals (Mr Robot is inside his head and is his father? Darlene is his sister?). The first wasnt too hard to figure out (most had it figured out right away although none of us knew he was his dad). But the Darlene one blew me away and had me rewatching the entire first season over again. You also missed the Shayla episode.

Man what a show. Just talking about it makes me want to go back to season 1 and watch it a 3rd time.
I'm gonna get up to speed on S1 as fast as possible but yearh I know everything roughly from reading.

My TV viewing habits are probably different than most - the actual outcome of anything in and of itself isn't usually the payoff for me, nor is trying to solve riddles on my own before the next episode.  I just want to be entertained with either mindless popcorn fare or something like this that has just about everything working for it (from my limited one episode view so far) like music, pacing, acting, script, etc.  And frankly, I hate forced drama for drama sake and this didn't feel like it had that at all.  So with all that said, I'm hooked.  Hopefully it can keep my interest this new season moving forward.

So you watched last night's episode without any knowledge of S1?

Man, you must've been confused as ####!
Not really.  The only thing that I am definately curious about is why the S&M scene.  Everything else made sense within what I was reading.

Though, granted, little nooks and cranies aside, the fact that this episode has me hooked and they did enough for me to able to follow along and understand that there was a past behind the interactions was solid writing.  I could probably enjoy the show without even watching S1 at this point.

The fact is the show started as just a hacker show and evolved into this. I can't fathom starting from season 2. You lose all the character build up.

This is really buggin you isn't.

Maybe I'm not gonna watch season 1.  How 'bout them apples?  You shaking?

Ok so we have no idea if his mother or his new friend Leon is in his head. What's the deal with calling fsociety 5/9 all of a sudden. I don't remember that from season 1.
How many of these characters are going to be versions of Elliot?  I'm guessing many.

Didn't season 1 end immediately (or just about) after the hack?

I don't recall 9/11 being called 9/11 on 9/11 but I could be mistaken

(Sweet baby Ganesh, I sound like Giuliani :wall: )

Give me one good reason not to binge season 1 if you haven't seen it.  Started season 2 last night but stopped because I had to get up early and knew it was a long episode.  Can't wait to see it tonight.

I haven't started season 2 yet so I'm trying to avoid spoilers...but what was the discussion a couple pages back, where one of the episodes was delayed a week because of something that happened ?

I'm guessing it was the Bud Dwyer homage and one of the USAs weekly gun massacres.

Do I win?

It was when that woman reporter was shot on live TV. I think it happened earlier that day and they delayed the episode out of respect due to similarities.

So I watched the first two and a half episodes yesterday.  Being new to the show, does it get better?  I found it to be incredibly cheesey - like really, really cheesey.

They named the company Evil Corp and gave it the Enron logo?  Evil Corp was the beat you could come up with?  There were also various computer lingo thing that I rolled my eyes at: "woah you guys meet IRL?"  Who the #### says IRL?  As soon as I started episode three and EvilCorps employee had his limo drop him off so he could pay a homeless dude to get beat up, I had to take a break.

Anyway, does the show hit a stride or is it corny?

Different strokes for different folks I guess, anybody here who will tell you the show gets better most likely really liked the first two episodes as well.

That's too bad. It had promise. Episode one reminded me of Dexter but with computers instead of bodies. They practically copied a portion of it where his trophies were burned CDs instead of blood slides.

lol the show is awesome. The main actor was nominated for an emmy and the show as well and it won the Golden Globe for best drama. No clue wtf you are watching? Corny?

It's E Corp. Elliot/fsociety call it Evil Corp. http://mrrobot.wikia.com/wiki/E_Corp

I struggled to get through the first season and am not watching the second one. I love the cinematography and the lead actor is great but overall it was just kinda silly to me.

I know...my face is silly.

First season was spectacular.  They really went all out.

Second season premiere?  Bit scattershot.  Kind of a let down.  Think they spent their wad in the first season.

Was looking forward to a world we don't know.  Instead it was a lady in line.

The show is much bigger and more ambitious than a simple revenge fantasy....

although that hat would have been entertaining and all, this is better IMHO.

It amazes me how they can incorporate so many big ideas and also so many insights into the human condition into this story.  The writing is just so good....

Yep.  It's a shame season 2 is only 1 episode long.

It did appear that 2.1 was kind of a scatter gun blast of story lines thrown at us.

But it seems to me that the story line picks up a few months after the end of last season. I think they are just trying to get us caught up.

I caught about the first 10 minutes of the pilot and decided to turn it off.    Something this good needs binge watched and I didn't have the time yesterday.   This weekend on the other hand, I will be all in.

:goodposting:

Saw this yesterday from Wired about how much work and detail goes in to the hacking going on in the show.

totally safe to click link

Simply crushing it. There's more room on the bandwagon.

There's nothing else like it on TV.  I wouldn't say I'm hooked, but it's one of the DVR shows I watch first.

They've somehow made season 2 even more surreal and trippy if that's even possible.  The atmosphere and mood of the show reminds me of NBC's Hannibal at times.

Great show, but I am getting tired of Elliot and Billie Jean's brother. I hope that's over. The abundant voice over talking to a dead father thing does give off too much of a Dexter vibe at times.

Season 2 has been great, but it feels like we're waiting for Elliot to finally come off the bench (like when Jesse started off that one season of BB being worthless).

Another visually stunning episode but kind of a filler if you ask me. It finally seems like Elliot finally resolved his issue at the end. The Adderall scene was phenomenal.

Outside of the shameless Alexa product placement, really excited to see what happens with the female cop (Dom).

The music and shooting style reminds me a bit of A Clockwork Orange for some odd reason.  Even though the subject matter isn't really "scary", the music and cinematography can creep me out when watching late at night
