Music you used to enjoy but now can't stand (1 Viewer)

Show us your artists or even genres of music you used to enjoy but, for whatever reason, have now become nails on a chalkboard.  Mine include:

The Cranberries

Smashing Pumpkins

Limp Bizkit

Eminem

Growing up I went through most pop music genres at one point or another, not necessarily in chronological order.  I used to love blasting the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack in my car.

I also overplayed Hendrix, so I don't really dig him when he comes up on the radio.

Some of the old hair bands I used to listen to were indeed pretty bad.  I'd say the lesser known artists of the '87-'89 era of glam/hair metal. That and the Screeching Weasel style guitar leads that were popular in punk in the early to mid-'90s. Some of those sounds are really, really annoying.

But for the most part, nah, most of the stuff has held up fine with me, I just played it out.

when I was a kid, that was the kinda stuff my sister used to listen to, so it got played a lot. even now, I'll still fire up a Dokken song every once in a while.  :headbang:

A lot of the old gangster rap I listened to as a teenager.  Not only does it have a terrible message, but most of it is poorly done.

90% of the music on classic rock radio stations.
amen.  I still listen to some rock, but you can only take so much Grand Funk Railroad in one lifetime.

"Now, Grand Funk Railroad paved the way for Jefferson Airplane which cleared the way for Jefferson Starship. The stage was now set for The Alan Parsons Project which I believe was some sort of hovercraft. "

For me, it's no so much artists or genres, but particular songs that I can't stand any more. I can name songs that I love and hate from just about every artist mentioned in here so far.

I can't listen to "You shook me all night long" anymore, I've heard it far to many times. I still like Bon Scott AC/DC but the Brian Johnson stuff is much tougher to listen to these day. Especially anything post "For Those about to Rock".

Good topic although I will preface my listings by saying that can't stand them is too strong of a statement but there are a handful of artists that I used to love listening to that are almost always a quick forward when they pop up on my Pandora.

Bob Marley

Beastie Boys (outside of most of Paul's Boutique (and their instrumental album) their music hasn't aged well IMO.

Mettalica

Most 1980s stuff suffers from a sterile, mechanical, robotic production style that I just can't stand listening to anymore.  Lots of synthesizers, tinny keyboards and crispy percussion.  No warmth from acoustic guitars or from analog recording.  Some great music suffers from outdated production that was considered modern and hi-tech at the time.

I heard "Right Next Door" by Robert Cray yesterday.  It's a great tune, but man the 80s production is painful.

I'm probably more the other way. I'm listening to more stuff that I scoffed at or discounted when I was younger and enjoying it.

The Cars.  I remember rocking out to them on my walkman on the way to school.  Now they are a channel changer.

I feel the same way, really.
Same. He not busy being born is busy dying- it's important to always be curious and discovering new things for me and that includes music. Often it isn't new music I am discovering but genres or artists that I overlooked in the past.

I keep telling people around me that thanks to delving deeply into the genres that I liked at the time, I get to work backwards and discover and re-discover stone classics.

This is me, for sure.

There are some songs that haven't aged well for me, or some that I am simply tired of because of hearing them 5,483 times (Rock and Roll by LZ, I am looking at you   ), but there isn't a single band I used to like but would look at now and scoff at.

Almost all "grunge".

I was/am a huge fan, especially Pearl Jam.

I am just too old for the pain.  If I want to be depressed I will just put on Ten.  But Andrew Wood, Kurt, Lane, and ####### Chris.  Just puts me down.

So much loss.  And so much talent.  Just sucks.
