Muslims in NYC Planning to Build Second Mosque Near Ground Zero (1 Viewer)

So I'm on vacation with the family and asked my sister, who lives in lower Manhattan, what people around there think about it. Needless to say, the vast majority of residents and workers have very different opinions than peens and jon_mx.But then again, New Yorkers aren't "real Americans" anyway.
New York City could turn into little bagdad for all i care. It would be fitting....
Fitting how?
I'll just let you use your imagination, hows that....
I would if you could provide even a germ of speculative reference to your statements. If its some sort of racial thing, why do you care if a mosque is built there anyway? If its some other reference, what the hell does it mean?

You're informal little poll would seem to contradict all of the actual professionally done polls so far. All of which should that over 50% of NYC residents oppose the mosque.
Shouldn't matter if 100% of them oppose it.
I'm not saying it does. Josie is the one trying to make some point by citing public opinion. I was just pointing out that his post is completely wrong and that public opinion in NYC is quite the opposite of what he states is the truth. So whatever point he is trying to make is completely moot right off the bat.

I just took a quick poll from my daughters (6 and 11 just for statistic purposes) and they agree that Wendy's Frosties are the best drink in the world.

So 100% of people polled agree that Wendys has the best drink in the world. Just saying....

I'm pretty sure they haven't tried a frosty Gulden Draak, natures perfect drink.(I do really like Wendy's Frosty's though, so I get where they're coming from)

Sorry. I should have noted that my sister is very intelligent and mostly comes in contact with other intelligent people. So her poll is actually totally different than whatever poll you're citing.

A Frosty is not a drink. WTF kind of polling operation are you running there?

Why is the State Department sponsoring a Middle East trip for the Imam of this mosque?

link

"Imam Feisal (Abdul Rauf) will be travelling to Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE (United Arab Emirates) on a US government-sponsored trip to the Middle East," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said.

"He will discuss Muslim life in America and religious tolerance."

Imam Feisal is behind plans for an Islamic centre that includes a mosque, sports facilities, a theatre and restaurant that would be open to all visitors to demonstrate that Muslims are part of their New York community, planners say.

But the proposed location, two blocks from the gaping Ground Zero hole, where the Twin Towers were destroyed by Al-Qaeda terrorists on September 11, 2001, killing nearly 3,000 people, has touched raw nerves.

And the imam's trip under the auspices of the State Department is being criticised by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Peter King, the ranking Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee.

"It is unacceptable that US taxpayers are being forced to fund Feisal Abdul Rauf&£8217;s trip to the Middle East," the pair said in a joint statement.

"Abdul Rauf has cast blame for 9/11 on the US, and even refuses to call Hamas what it is - a foreign terrorist organization," they said.

"This radical is a terrible choice to be one of the faces of our country overseas. The US should be using public diplomacy programs to combat extremism, not endorse it," they said.

"The State Department's selection of Feisal Abdul Rauf to represent the American people through this program further calls into question the administration's policy and funding priorities," they added.

When Mr Crowley announced the trip at the daily State Department briefing, he described Imam Feisal as a moderate who has already made two similar government-sponsored trips to Arab and Muslim countries.

maybe because NASA wasn't available?

Islamic Gay Bar?

On Tuesday's 'Red Eye' (Weeknights, 3 AM ET on Fox News) television's really early morning zoo, ringleader Greg Gutfeld made a suggestion that is sure to entertain and offend: he wants to build a gay bar right next to the controversial "Ground Zero" mosque.

279diggsdigg

Not just any gay bar, but a gay bar that caters to Islamic men. "An entire floor, for example, will feature non-alcoholic drinks, since booze is forbidden by the faith," Gutfeld said.

"As you know, the Muslim faith doesn't look kindly upon homosexuality," Gutfeld explained. "Which is why I'm building this bar. It is an effort to break down barriers and reduce deadly homophobia in the Islamic world."

Gutfled claims his gay bar idea is completely serious and not an elaborate satire: "This is not a joke. I've already spoken to a number of investors, who have pledged their support in this bipartisan bid for understanding and tolerance."

This would be hilarious!

hmmmm... so your public opinion trumps his public opinion. gotcha.fwiw- I live(d) in lower manhattan (stupid fire) and haven't met a soul- literally, not one person- who thinks that mosque should not be there.

somebody else asked- if it's about proximity, how close should the mosque be if it's current location is too close? 4 blocks? 10 blocks? 20 blocks? 40 blocks? seriously.

Can someone please explain how this is a "liberal" or "conservative" issue? It's a constitutional issue, right? I mean, everyone agrees there's not a #### thing anyone can do about this mosque being built, right? So, given that, what is all the conservative rabal-rousing about? I mean, of course they have the right to speak out agains tthis, but why are liberals somehow being blamed for all of this?

Thats pretty sad how she gets it and some of our fellow americans dont. Thats says quite a bit about us as a country :goodposting:
Did you attend the Christo school of FFA posting?

She does bring up some good points, especially pointing out the struggle of moderate Muslims dealing with radical Islamists as well. However, I don't think anybody can say that it doesn't open the discussion about tolerance when just the mere idea of this new mosque has everybody talking about.

Because people only believe in any rules when they suit their own cause

Im not really talking about the "legal issues" concerning them being able to build a mosque but more of a common sense of how its clearly in bad taste. You almost know how a thread like this is going to go before anyone even posts. Conservatives will be up in arms and liberals will say how great it is that they are building it and call conservatives names for speaking out against it. Rinse and repeat .... :lmao:

Yes, thanks. Stat already linked her opinion piece from a Toronto newspaper.Always love to hear from the conservative muslims living in Cananda. :lmao:
Sometimes it's hard to turn off my Fox bias - the first thing I thought was "how long did they have to search to find a Muslim who was this opposed to the idea? Evidently they couldn't find one living in the states". She did bring up some interesting points though.

I really dont like to talk "tolerance" when it comes to Muslims. Not all but a nice majority are anything but tolerant of this country, our beliefs, our way of life. Tolerance seems to be a one-way street with them. That makes me very intolerant....Sorry, I call it like i see it...

Yeah those Christians, always running off to poor countries helping out, building schools and such. Helping feed the poor in cities... Go to Joe Bryants facebook page, they are always feeding the homeless....they are very intolerant :lmao:

Not to debate you because you are clearly entrenched but muslims have a lot of outreach activities as well. Everyone is tolerant as long as the people they are selling to are buying what they are selling.

Where do you get this? As I posted in the other thread, I think we get hung up with the Muslims from the ME which are only 20% of the total population in the world. Now, do they hate us because they are Muslim and our country is mostly Christian or because we are meddling in their affairs in the ME? Do you think the majority of Muslims in India hate us in the same way?

Also, I didn't think the Christian level of tolerance was based on what others are doing to them or feel about them. Seems like a "stooping to their level" mentality to me.

You really think Joes church is only giving food to homeless people who will sit through a sermon? I would be willing to bet his church shows up with food and doesnt even mention God except probably to say grace before eating. The Church's in my community are doing A LOT for people with no strings attached. I have a hard time believing my community is the only one doing this.

I know a lot of atheists who participate in these activities too - what's your point? Every group is capable of great things and horrible things.

Actually i do. I think we have MANY muslims in this coutnry right now who hate us. A lot of it comes from the Muslim leadership. If you are a young Muslim and hear from leaders that you have to Jihad and kill americans or you arent a good muslim how do you think they take that? I cant really blame them, its a good brainwashing job they are getting.

We aren't going to get anywhere on the "all Muslims are evil" front, but I do have a question for you:In your opinion (regardless of what 100% you think hate us) why do you believe these people hate us, and how are they a threat to our way of life?

Maybe you should start a blog.
peenshatesfagsmuslimsgays.wordpress.com?
Just because im not in favor of gay marriage doesnt mean i hate gays, come on man, get real  I do have a much tougher time turning the other cheek when muslims fly planes into our buildings or capturing civilians and military and beheading them on tape. Sorry, for my intolerance
And you genuinely feel this represents the majority of that religion?
