Must see movies 1980 to 2005 (1 Viewer)

All right, great lists so far. Let me add this to challenge you a bit:

If you had to pick 2 movies from that timeframe that may not be on everyone’s list, what would they be? Do think of this like Scattegories. It still needs to be a good movie, but you’re trying to make it unique.
Insignificance- Theresa Russell as Marilyn Monroe explaining the Theory of Relativity to Einstein is one of the greatest scenes ever.

Victory- Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine and Pele in a soccer match against the Nazis! Can’t get more awesome than this.

Sorry, I just thought of another one that I haven't seen anybody suggest:

All of Me (1984):  Steve Martin and Lilly Tomlin......I haven't seen it in a long time but it was hilarious from what I remember.
Back in the bowl...back in the bowl!

I wonder how this on holds up. Thought it was hilarious too first time around- haven't seen it since, but don't have high hopes.

The Hurricane (1999)  The story of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, a boxer wrongly imprisoned for murder, and the people who aided in his fight to prove his innocence.

Lola (1981)  In post-war West Germany, the charming Von Bohm is appointed a city's new Building Commissioner. His morality is tested when he unknowingly falls in love with a brothel worker, Lola, the paid mistress of a corrupt property developer.  >>  LINK to musical clip from the movie - Capri Fischer
Misquote. But good flicks.

Was trying to quote the Stevie pick, which mentioned Hoop Dreams...hopefully already mentioned but should be here.

Like dis, like dis, like dis, like dis...goal.

Don't think I've seen it since the theaters. Best good guys vs bad guys soldiers soccer game in a movie, maybe ever (sorry boys in company c).

As a kid, I loved watching the end of Victory.  Wasn't a fan of the whole movie, but I loved watching the end.

Some I didn't remember being named off the top of my head so many are probably too recent

Austin Powers (honorable mention - Armageddon)

Big Lebowski (Beautiful Girls)

Castaway (Clueless)

Die Hard (Desperado)

Encino Man (incomparable, no honorable mention required)

Fargo (Full Metal Jacket)

Galaxy Quest (Glengarry, Glen Ross, Groundhog Day)

Honey I Shrunk The Kids (Hot Shots)

Independence Day (In the Line of Fire)

Jurassic Park (Just one of the Guys)

KPAX (Knights Tale neither one fits but I like both a lot)

Lethal Weapon (Lost Boys)

Mrs. Doubtfire (Mr. Mom)

New Jack City (Night of the Living Dead)

Outsiders (Overboard)

Point Break (Pretty Woman)

Quiz Show (Quicksilver)

Roadhouse (Reality Bites)

Scent of a Woman (Silence of the Lambs)

Terminator (The Abyss)

Usual Suspects (Upside Down)

Vinny, My Cousin (Vacation)

When Harry Met Sally (Wall Street)

X, American History (X Men or something i guess i mean what do you expect)

Young Guns (You Only Live Twice)

Zootopia (i don't care about the year that movie was great) (Zhivago, Doctor)

If you like The Mission,  you might also like Black Robe.
It has been a long time since I saw Black Robe but as I recall I had higher hopes since it came a few years after the Mission.

Didn't hate it by any means, it is a good movie but it lacked the budget (over $24 million for The Mission only $11 million for Black Robe).  Low budget showed in direct comparison as it lacked the star power of The Mission (directed by Robert Bolt starring Robert DeNiro and Jeremy Irons) and Black Robe's lower budget showed in production values, lighting and audio with poor foley and dubbing.

I get the comparison since they are similar genres and both had Aden Young in them but not in my top fifty of that 25 year era.
