Well, The Karate Kid.Wow Chinatown and 12 Angry Men around position 90....
I hope you have some seriously good movies in higher positions
First one I've seen so far.Andy Dufresne said:#78 - Saving Private Ryan
If you think of this movie having three acts, I think the second - post invasion, pre finding Ryan - is typical Spielberg schmaltz/trying too hard.
But, of course, the invasion and final stand scenes are amazing.
"Earn this"
Trivia:
Steven Spielberg cast Matt Damon as Private Ryan because he wanted an unknown actor with an All-American look. He did not know Damon would win an Oscar for Good Will Hunting (1997) and become an overnight star before the film was released.
The two "German" soldiers who are shot trying to surrender were speaking Czech. They were saying, "Please don't shoot me, I am not German, I am Czech, I didn't kill anyone, I am Czech!" They were members of what the Germans called Ost [East] Battalions, men, mostly Czech and Polish, taken prisoner in eastern European countries invaded by Germany and forced into the German army.
Steven Spielberg is on record as saying that even if the film had received an NC-17 rating, he would have released it uncut anyway.
had no real problem with Damon....Damon was fine in that role.
It's like I'm playin' cards with my sister's kids. <_<Revenge of the Sith better than Once Upon a Time in the West![]()
Its BROTHERS kids. Get it right. It's like I'm playin' cards with my sister's kids. <_<
If the order doesnt matter then there doesnt need to be numbers for each film, or the the comment of moving up and down the list.Thewas more "do we have to have one of the posts after every entry?" Again, these are favorites, and AD hasn't claimed them to be otherwise.
Like you said, the order doesn't have much to do with it, I am more interested in what people choose overall for these things. Top 100 movies ever is basically like your favorite couple movies every year - I am sure we are splitting hairs over #s 70 and #100. I am more troubled that MoS made it on the list at all.![]()
Didn't say it didn't matter, just saying that I don't get people griping about a movie's ranking when the guy loves the movie, or it wouldn't be on the list in the first place. If the order doesnt matter then there doesnt need to be numbers for each film, or the the comment of moving up and down the list.
This isn't hard.If the order doesnt matter then there doesnt need to be numbers for each film, or the the comment of moving up and down the list.
If you dont want people to comment on your movie rankings, you probly shouldnt put them on a message board. This isn't hard.
I've watched On The Waterfront one time. It's one of the best movies I've ever seen. It hasn't had time to surpass the movies I've liked for years and years and watched over and over.
What is it about the word "favorite" that doesn't make sense?
That question is rhetorical.
Because he's saying he likes a movie more than another. Some would disagree with his opinion on that.Didn't say it didn't matter, just saying that I don't get people griping about a movie's ranking when the guy loves the movie, or it wouldn't be on the list in the first place.
These lists aren't easy to make, that's for sure.
But you're either fundamentally misunderstanding or willfully disregarding what these rankings are.If you dont want people to comment on your movie rankings, you probly shouldnt put them on a message board.
Id say its wrong to have Revenge of the Sith be a top 100 movie or even for consideration, because its terrible. Thats my opinion. You obviously feel different, I get that. But you're either fundamentally misunderstanding or willfully disregarding what these rankings are.
If you disagree with my rankings you're saying that I am wrong about how much I like the movies I like. As time goes by, the classic movies will likely move up and some of the lightweights down. That's how things become "favorites".
There's no doubt that this is a silly little thread. But it's just incorrect to say that the rankings are "wrong".
I know it's wrong. It's a curse.Id say its wrong to have Revenge of the Sith be a top 100 movie or even for consideration, because its terrible. Thats my opinion. You obviously feel different, I get that.
Frank was also awesome in Blue Velvet.According to Rudy, he has no brother named Frank in real life. The character of Frank is all the people who told Rudy he couldn't do it, rolled into one person.
and frank stallone was great as eddie in barfly.Frank was also awesome in Blue Velvet.According to Rudy, he has no brother named Frank in real life. The character of Frank is all the people who told Rudy he couldn't do it, rolled into one person.
That's a top 100 movie right there.and frank stallone was great as eddie in barfly.
hey eddie- I'm gonna goose your mother with a turkey neck... yeah.
I oughta bit his champagne cork off! That's a top 100 movie right there.
"Nobody sucks paste like me!"
the fact that I have no idea which one SIth is- reminds me of how much I think of the movie.lol at the hate Andy's getting in here. I am squarely behind Andy's everyman rankings over the rankings of some movie snob every day.
And I too think the last 3rd of Sith was pretty awesome. Not a whole lot of talking.
100%. If I was showing the Star Wars saga to someone for the first time I'd start with the last half or so of Sith. I remember thinking at the time I saw it that it was almost worth all the junk from the first two to see how Vader was 'born.'lol at the hate Andy's getting in here. It was definitely better than I or II, but the dialog and acting are still pretty bad.100%. He was appealing to the hipsters with the irony of the statement. It was definitely better than I or II, but the dialog and acting are still pretty bad.
Kenobi: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes!"
I mean, they couldn't have thought that line through for a couple of seconds at least?
The Lego Droid Tales version of those 3 movies are a billion times better than the originals.
Jokes on him. He gets to go desert hermit for the next 20 years - and he doesn't age well. You'd think they'd be able to create better hair pieces with all the technology they've got. Then again, he was in seclusion. Probably wove that thing out of stray bantha hairs. He was appealing to the hipsters with the irony of the statement.
This is a good movie, but when I saw it listed, I was really hoping it was going to be the one with Dustin Hoffman. Hilariously underrated movie.#75 - Hero (The one with Jet Li)
An absolutely beautiful movie (and not just because of Ziti Zhang) this movie copies the multi-viewpoint structure of Kurosawa's Rashomon but in a more interesting way. The cinematography is just amazing. Each scene is a marvel. The fight scenes are exceptionally choreographed.
Trivia:
All of the soldiers in the Qin army sequence as well as the palace sequences were performed by actual Chinese People's Liberation Army soldiers, except the stunt performers. It's estimated that 18000 were used as extras in the film.
In ancient China, when someone claimed that he killed his enemies, he needed to present their heads (tou zi) as proof instead of their weapons. Director Yimou Zhang modified this, mindful of the audience's stomachs.

I...thought...Hero...was...more...interesting...than...Rashomon.
I liked Hero, and must admit I never watched Rashomon. It's been on my to view list for about 30 years and it may never get off that list unless I go on a serious movie kick againI...thought...Hero...was...more...interesting...than...Rashomon.
Although I am interested in watching Rashomon again.
I am a big Kurosawa fan and I agree with Andy here. I enjoyed Hero more than Rashomon, which was an excellent film in its own right.I...thought...Hero...was...more...interesting...than...Rashomon.
Although I am interested in watching Rashomon again.
I guess for me it's not a "more interesting" thing... Rashomon is the progenitor from which every other movie that uses this method has evolved. I liked Hero quite a bit- fun movie. And even though Rashomon, in the face of the evolution of movies since, holds up- I find it difficult to ever even compare the paradigm with the clones- even if the clones naturally produce something more current or relevant to modernity.I...thought...Hero...was...more...interesting...than...Rashomon.
Although I am interested in watching Rashomon again.
i could almost forgive the "mccarthy's right" comment that's kept me out of this thread for nom of this flick i soooo love, but not quite.#74 - Tucker: The Man and His Dream
A film with panache and chutzpah. Again, I love an underdog story. Oh, and cars. I love cars (more on that much later).
Preston Tucker: [making his closing arguments to the jury] ... When I was a boy, I used to, uh... I used to read all about Edison, and the Wright brothers... Mr. Ford, they were, they were my heroes... 'rags to riches' that's not just the name of a book; that's, what this country was all about!... We invented the free enterprise system, where anybody, no matter who he was, where he came from, what class he belonged to... If he came up with a better idea, about ANYTHING, there's no limit to how far he could go... I grew up a generation too late I guess because now the way the system works... The loner; the dreamer; the CRACKPOT, who, comes up with some CRAZY IDEA that everybody LAUGHS at, that LATER, turns out to REVOLUTIONIZE THE WORLD... HE'S SQUASHED, FROM ABOVE, BEFORE HE EVEN GETS HIS HEAD OUT OF THE WATER, BECAUSE THE BUREAUCRATS, THEY'D RATHER KILL A NEW IDEA THAN LET IT ROCK THE BOAT!... IF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN WERE ALIVE TODAY, HE'D BE THROWN IN JAIL FOR SAILING A KITE WITHOUT A LICENSE! ... It's true!... We're all puffed up with ourselves now because we invented *the bomb*... Dropped the... Beat the daylights out of the Japanese; the Nazis... But if 'big business' closes the door on THE LITTLE GUY WITH A NEW IDEA, WE'RE NOT ONLY CLOSING THE DOOR ON PROGRESS, BUT WE'RE SABOTAGING EVERYTHING THAT WE FOUGHT FOR!... EVERYTHING THAT THE COUNTRY STANDS FOR! And one day, we're gonna find ourselves at the bottom of the heap, instead of king of the hill, having no idea how we got there; buying our radios and our cars from our former enemies!... I don't believe that's gonna happen; I *can't* believe it, cuz... if I ever, stop believing in plain old common horse-sense of the American people... there's no way I could get out of bed in the morning... Thank you.
Trivia:
Jeff Bridges wears cufflinks formerly owned by the real Preston Tucker.
Of the 51 Tuckers ever made, George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola each own two.
How about if I affix this addendum, "McCarthy was right BUT, his methods were completely and utterly wrong."i could almost forgive the "mccarthy's right" comment that's kept me out of this thread for nom of this flick i soooo love, but not quite.
