Naked and Afraid on Discovery Channel (1 Viewer)

My wife was pissed at the show when his final rating was not significantly higher. This guy was easily the best hunter the show has ever had. Usually the people just rot away and don't eat anything. I think if he was left out there another couple weeks he would prosper. Guy freaking threw a spear and hit a catfish. He showed common sense when refusing to rush into the alligator den too.
I agree with your wife. When they gave him his final number I was wondering what more he could have possibly done. Maybe build a helicopter I guess.

Yea, that was a croc...

I had to laugh when he decided he needed to build a basket to carry all the food he found. I don't recall anyone else on the show ever having that problem.

Whats interesting is that they don't feature the items they bring this season and I noticed last night that they had at least 3 items instead of 2. They had a pot, fire starter and a machete.

And yeah, last night's chick really seemed to miss her double wide.

It was also a location where wildlife was plentiful and easily (relatively speaking) accessible. some of the places they go to don't have snakes and alligators at every turn. i give him credit for that noose stick. was very impressive

Thought at the beginning they said each person was able to bring two items, which would be different from past seasons.

It's possible I missed that line but yeah, that would definitely be a change from previous seasons.

I really preferred the alligator episode where the guy was able to thrive than the episodes where the contestants do next to nothing. The elements still sucked for them but give these folks an opportunity to hunt/fish and see how they make out. I also really liked that the guy was able to mentally heal himself from his war issues.

I missed that. Both machetes looked exactly the same in both episodes this season, so perhaps they are just giving everyone the same items, but I don't recall the couple in the everglades having a metal pot either. Could be they are trying to stop people from choosing stupid items, but I always thought the reveal of what item they chose was one of the better parts of the show.

"I suppose a machete is okay, but I brought this awesome magnifying glass!"

Or the guy that brought the swim goggles, but was too afraid to go into the ocean

ugh this girl is the worst.
:goodposting: That guy was so patient and kind.
Man, that guy was patient beyond belief. I agree, any other partner and she doesn't make it.

I wonder if it may have been better for him to tell her to stop #####ing about everything after a few days. Once he did that, she got quiet cause she was pissed and then realized how terrible she was being.

Plus he got a good night's sleep. :lmao:

The guy makes a platform to get up off the ground and she is complaining that it is uncomfortable. :hophead:

I think I'm liking this show a little bit more than previous seasons as it hasn't been as much waiting around for 21 days, people are actively building/hunting/foraging.

Anyone see the Naked Castaway series that showed on Discovery? It showed about a year and a half ago I think.

Guy gets dropped off on an island with nothing and needs to survive for 60 days. Thought it was pretty entertaining.

my goodness was the woman on last night whiny... and then to say she wants back. weird.

Surprised the dude was able to make it with that fever coming on the final 2 days.

She sucked pretty hard, not such a ball of awesomeness after all. Great ### on her though, and she just had a kid 14 months ago too.

Just got into this show. Loving it.

Saw the Evergaldes ep with the guy catching the catfish and alligators

Saw the Batswana ep

Saw the Brazil dunes ep with the chick and her awesome magnifying glass

couple others too.

Now they have the N&A XXL with 12 guys and girls for 40 days. Should be fun!

Surprised the other guys didn't look for water a little harder when Hakim started cramping up. Even if not for him, they are going to need water at some point to survive in that kind of heat.

Shane and the two women should be entertaining next week. That guy has some serious issues.

Are the 4 groups supposed to be meeting up at some point, or are they expected to stay separated?

According to the previews they meet up at some point to form one group, I didn't catch or they didn't say how many days in that happens.

Finally got to watch the first episode of XL last night.

Hakim going out was a huge surprise but given how bad of shape he was in it was for the best.Shane is bat#### crazy, hope he sticks around the entire season because without question he will deliver.

Setting up to be a great adventure.

What's up with the chick with the swollen face being allowed to bring a mosquito net? She already had a knife. How many items do they get these days?

I thought they were all given a knife and could bring one other item :oldunsure:
Maybe I missed that comment about the rules in the beginning of the XL show. I know during the first season, they were only allowed one item each. This past year it looked like they were given a fire starter and each allowed one additional item. I'm confused because the rules keep changing.

To be fair....I haven't paid close attention. I don't have a clue :bag:

Woah, anyone watch the next episode of the XL show.

Honora went nuts and threw the other 2 guys' gear in the creek.

Some of these people have gotten a little crazy, but she is beyond crazy.

dude, she was crazy in the last one she was in. Honestly, i would have flipped. Thats really some BS sabotaging your team in a survival situation. They should leave her stranded by herself. SHe wont last a day.

Here's her facebook page.

She sounds like she's proud of what she did. :loco:

0 shame (and mega hot) makes for the best kind of crazy

Pretty good show, certainly a watchable Survivor substitute. The team of sane chicks seem to be in a pretty good spot. I wonder how many of these big dudes will be able to survive the full 40 on so little food, skills or not.

when the dude got the machete out of the river, and crazy chick was like "give me that, it's mine" I was really hoping he would just throw it back in the river.

that chick is the worst! pretty nice buns though.

Did you see the pictures of her on her social media? O.o But yea, I'm enjoying the format for the most part, but the separate camps being so diverse is making the male 'alpha pack' struggle alot more than the others. I'm wondering if they all got full maps and were made aware of the distances since I can't believe they wouldn't find a bigger body of water off the bat.

The 'alpha girls' are crushing this, include the one who lived solitary for a WEEK when it was formatted for them to start in groups of three.

ETA: Rick posted her fb a few msg's back.

I was hoping he'd give it through her. Woman is sabotaging their survival and they aren't even allowed to physically stop her, because that would be morally and legally wrong.

Yeah, I couldn't help but think to myself if that was real survival situation that they probably would have murdered her.

I thought the same thing but in a real survival situation she would never do that. She only did that because she knew there was nothing they could do to her without someone stepping in. She is the worst kind of human being, IMO.

Just caught up and glad to see I wasnt the only one thinking how loony she was. I wanted to punch her through my TV and can only guess what they wanted to do. And its not like she has a good track record of surviving these challenges. She tried to use a magnifying glass to purify water and spent all day sitting in the sun. And then comes in here and tries to tell them how its done?

Just caught up on the last couple episodes. All the stuff with grabbing/killing the eels was awesome. That Jeff guy is the man.

I can't understand the one woman's devotion to being vegetarian in a challenge like this. Everyday life or the typical abnormal situation? Yeah I get it. But she is either a) choosing not to eat a fish that's already been killed or b) basically allowing herself to starve so an animal/fish/bug can live...both of those are completely ####### nuts, especially b).

It made me think though...couldn't she offer a blue dot to one of the guys? Isn't there protein in that? Or would not that be vegetarian either?

I was thinking the exact same thing... "hey, time for my daily protein shot. who's it gonna be?" and 5 guys' hands go up.

Just caught this for the first time, and taped a bunch of episodes during opening Sunday of the football season, including 3-4 of the recent XL season.

When I saw previews I thought it looked hokey, but compelling survival material. Very addictive and bingeable watching.

New season starts in October.

I am a few episodes behind and need to catch up with the XL, but I like the format a lot better with the XL. It gives the viewers an ongoing week to week view at the same characters which I like, since you can develop likes and dislikes (and hatred!) towards them. I think it's an interesting and cool show.

I didn't mind the standalone versions, but much preferred XL. The other ones would just be too formulaic...they'd be cool with each other and optimistic at first, they'd fight over something due to being hungry or the woman being a woman, they'd make up and then just grind out the remaining 10 days or so with little drama or entertainment for us.
