I'm a handful of episodes in and love it. A little heavy on the subtitles but overall I can tell this is going to be binge watchable.
I gotta confess, I'm adding columbian coke shows to my list - 8 episodes in and very good.If it's not about Yonkers or true detectives with ginger kids I'm not really interested.
Same here. Curious to see how they drag it out for another 10 episodes.Enjoyed the first season...
(POTENTIAL SPOILER)
Knowing a bit about the history, I was surprised it will go on for a second season...
I was watching episode 5 or 6 where Escobar is talking with his son and the son says he wants to be a businessman like his dad. I started thinking the same thing about character studies/motivations. To me the only thing they've fleshed out is that Escobar dots on his wife and wants to please her - hence his going back into Columbia. That's the only motivation they've pushed (as far as I recall) in his decision to stay in the business and not just take his money and live like a king somewhere else. He does go through the "I want to be a politician and run things my way", but it wasn't something to bite into.agree with LBL here.I think that they don't know which story they are telling. Is it about the detectives or about Pablo? Or about the socio-political issues? It does seem more documentary than drama, but the dramatic parts are well-acted and have a good tone, so I think that there should be more. Infuse the backstory that gets filled in with all the narration into the dramatic scenes. Definitely not enough Pablo.I'm halfway through the season and I'm still not sure how much I like it. It's well done I guess, but I don't really care about a lot of the plot lines. I can't put my finger on it, but something is missing.
It's sorta like Sopranos and Breaking Bad had a baby, but the baby kinda sucks and nobody wants to be its friend.
I'm completely enjoying this, but it's much more about the story than it is about the characters, which get spread a bit thin. A lot to cover in the story- and they're doing that part very well- but I'd also like to see some more character studies/motivations occur so I can care a bit more about what's going on.
I'm sure we all know the history.fantasycurse42 said:I think season 2 is going to focus more on Pablo. They basically have 18 months or so until his death.
I think they can continue the series with a focus on the Cali Cartel as well.
Correct. Season can focus on Pablo with a transition into chasing the Cali cartel. Lots of story to tell if they go that way. Most of the characters are already established. They showed a few of the Cali cartel leaders in season 1.Finshed season 1 and loved it. Remember it's called Narcos, not Escobar, so it could go on for many seasons.
Deleted my comment, I thought it was public knowledge about Pablo's shift into philanthropy and career change, my bad.I'm sure we all know the history.
scratch that. reverse it.
I'd bet there are guys in here who don't know the history... way to go, FC.
You'd have to ask El Padrone about this... This is factual stuff, La Catedral was a real place.Finished up season 1.
I'll give it a solid B-
Lots of things to like, but still a bit disjointed. Question for those who know the history / have finished season 1...
SPOILERS
ok so Pablo builds the prison. He obviously had everyone on the payroll and can do as he pleases. My question I guess is why did he bother to stay there at all? He's already breaking the arrangement by conducting business there, so what's the need for him to physically stay there himself? That just caught me as odd.
Season 2 has already been signed off on. I hope it goes on for a few more seasons and gets into the Cali Cartel as well.Oh christ, they don't finish the story?? I don't know why I assumed it was a 1 season & done show.

Yeah, I mean he was in a pretty bad way at that point. He admitted to his lieutenant that he ####ed up right before Gaviria's right-hand man (Sandoval?) came in for that negotiation. It seemed like there was a lot of sentiment against him, plus the other cartels could have taken him out, so staying put and being safe was best. You'd have to ask El Padrone about this... If I was to guess, I'd say bc he was sick of being hunted endlessly. If he would've just sat tight, let the violence die down, and served his time he would've been home free. He only had to serve a total of 3 years IIRC on a 5 year sentence, in a place that was basically like a hotel.
He had too many enemies and competitors. It wasn't so much a prison for his punishment as much as it was a fortress from his enemies.Finished up season 1.

I guess that makes sense, but then all of his enemies know where he is so I'm not sure how that helps? Also it seems pretty apparent his family is just a few miles down the road and relatively unprotected. He had too many enemies and competitors. this thought makes me happy bromigo because i love this show take that to the bankFinshed season 1 and loved it. Remember it's called Narcos, not Escobar, so it could go on for many seasons.
One of these jabronies in every TV thread on this board. Cracks me up!Yah they had a whole episode on the "cockroach" and the factories. Then the lion and how they smuggled them in. Are you guys even watching the same show?
wow, looks great. Loved season 1.
Starts back up Sept 2nd.wow, looks great. Loved season 1.
When is it out? Will it finish in 2 seasons?
lol... like watching chris farleyshadyridr said:Drinking game. Take a shot every time Pablo Escobar adjusts his pants. You will likely die of alcohol poisoning.
what's his twitter handle? So funny story, and a little freaky. I binge watched this series a couple of months ago. When I finished, I posted a random thing on FB about how I thought it was a good show. It was automatically tweeted out since I have my accounts linked, and it gets a Twitter like from THE Pablo Escobar Jr.
Not exactly the kind of attention I want, you know? Kind of freaked me out a bit, tbh.
No idea. Thought first season was great. 2nd season was good; dragged at times. How is this shown not getting more love? Cruised through both seasons in about a week. Thought it was extremely well done.
We did as well. Was surprised to see some middling comments in here. We loved it.How is this shown not getting more love? Cruised through both seasons in about a week. Thought it was extremely well done.
I don't think that's his real son. His son is an architect I read.
yep. just a great job telling the story, going through different emotions on how you feel about Pablo, etc. Really glad the way season 2 ended, it set the stage for a season 3-4(which has been confirmed). We did as well. Was surprised to see some middling comments in here. We loved it.
