NBA BTTF III - Draft Over! War of attrition underway... (1 Viewer)

Real glad Zbo got picked. Would have been hard to pass on him in the 4th, but as much as I love his real life game it's not super ideal for the SIM. Annoyed that Taj was taken.

Also regarding the Greek Freak vs Randolph and Miller, the thing that really separates him is his jump shot and decision making. GF is already a 35% 3 point shooter and looks to set his teammates up. AR has fantastic handles but he's dumb as a rock and Miles doesn't have one NBA skill. I'll peg him at 12-10 ppg, 7 rebs, 3.5 ast. Nic Batum lite.
As a 19 yo Miles averaged 9.4 pts, 5.9 reb, 1.2 ast, 1.5 blk, and .6 stl in 26 MPG, and shot over 50% from the field.

NBA skills weren't Miles' problem.
Athleticism...running and dunking. He couldn't dribble, pass, or shoot.
I watched most every game of his first couple of years and disagree, he had all those tools. He even shot 35% from 16ft - 3pt range as rookie (hardly taking any 3 pointers at all) so among close watchers of the team at that stage we all thought he was likely to eventually develop into a decent shooter. He'd get out of control at times but was electric putting the ball on the floor and taking people of the dribble or going end to end in transition.

Not exactly the route I was planning to go with this pick, but like the fit with my squad.

Was wondering why he hasn't been taken especially considering some of the scrubs that went on that PG run.

Obviously I have no idea how the sim works, but I like Calderon a lot here. I was gonna take him early in this round before deciding to swing for the fences on Collison as a full-time starter in Sacramento. I think he's gonna have a good year in NY.

That's a pretty nice score for the last pick of the 4th. He'll probably be the center of the offense with Love out of town, so as long as he can stay on the court he'll be an awesome value.

If he made it back to my 5th rounder, I'd have been mad I took Teague. He's really good value here.

I was debating between Pek and Sanders.
I think Pek is the better pick because of his high floor, Sanders could very well end up the better player this year though. I had a short list of 4 since Jomar picked and those were two of the four guys on it.

So who's better, Amir Johnson or Taj Gibson? Haven't watched either of them much but they were both on my short list due to rankings. Amir got picked right before me. Did I lose out?
I probably would have taken Gibson if it was a simple choice between the two, but Johnson fit what my team needed better.

Was down to Pek or Calderon for me. That's who I was debating. Ended up just not liking the fit of Pek with Jonas. IRL it would be an awful pairing, but it might have worked in the SIM.

Was considering Jose back when I took George Hill. Sounds like I would have got more love from the masses for Jose. I went for the 20+ points in defense vs the better assist rate. Guess I'm a little "bad-D" gunshy.

Pek is another no D guy so I had ranked lower. He'll get lots of shots and rebounds though.

SIM wise Pek/Jonas would have been fine as it really doesn't take floor spacing into account (just %). However, I like you still like to build my teams that would fit well together in real life.

I don't look at much at the D ratings because I don't trust them.

That said, a 32-year-old Jose Calderon, playing for the Knicks who were awful defensively even before they dumped Tyson Chandler... I really don't see how that could possibly end in a good D rating.

Yah I can see why he slipped depending on your love for DEF, but I probably would have taken him over Collison, Hill, Teague, and Rubio because his offense is so good.

Last year their total defense would have been 60 (22+38).

Floor spacing sort of matters in that you can use the defensive adjustments to cover more inside or outside. However I don't think it makes much difference unless someone really takes it to the illogical extreme (having no shooters, or having all spot-up shooters and no one who scores in the paint).

When they're pretty much the same for 3-4 years I take it into account a little more, but I'm with you. And yeah, Jose isn't going to have a good rating pretty much no matter what in NYC.

5.03 Paul Pierce, SF
I really liked Paul Pierce in the sim last year, he had 100% at SG, SF and PF and doesn't kill you on the defensive end. I think one of the keys to having a good team drafting at the back end of the first round is to have a handful of shooters, so Pierce should help there.

Let's make it "freakishly long Milwaukee Bucks with upside" day

5.05: John Henson, PF/C

PG: Darren Collison

SG; Nik Batum

SF: Trevor Ariza

PF: John Henson

C: Al Horford

That's the least flashy starting 5 I've ever seen. Makes the Jazz look exciting by comparison.

He didn't even attempt 3 pointers (131 for his CAREER), his FT% was <60%, and that 16-3pt range shot was 36% for his career (NBA avg is around ~38%) so it's pretty safe to say he couldn't shoot.

He had a high of 2.6 AST per game (career 1.9 ast per game). If you want to compare AST%, his career 12.6 AST% is less than Carmelo Anthony (15.8 AST%). Oh an he averaged more TO than AST for his career (2 vs 1.9). So I think it's pretty safe to say he couldn't pass either.

I was living in SoCal at that time so I adopted those Clippers as my second team (F THE LAKERS!! Brand, Q, Odom, Miles, Magg) and watched them as much as a college kid could. He was a freak athlete, but had nothing else to his game. That's why he disappeared after he hurt his knee.

Yah...that would give me pause for interior players. I was thinking more offensively.
