I honestly think the sides are far apart. As crazy as it may seem, the Cavs are in more of a hurry. The Wolves should still be able to ship Love out for decent value up until the deadline. There were players Jordan wanted, management just ignored him and thats what the Cavs should do here. Love and Irving miss a lot and games and LeBron will be back in the same situation he was in Miami. The way the roster is currently constructed LeBron will be able to play less minutes and Wiggins can now guard the best guard or forward on the other team instead of LeBron always having to do it. If they make the trade they would not have a quality bench.

The constant fear of him leaving and making panicked decisions is why LBJ left in the first place. We'll see how it works out and what they give up for Wiggins.

Maybe it's impossible in this day and age, but the leaks of LBJ reaching out to Love can only hurt the Cavs in their trade talks. Not showing support for Wiggins has pretty much put him on the table for taking when he didn't need to be.

Cavs sign FA's, maybe a max, then Lebron takes a mini one year discount getting him to the new TV deal/increase in cap. Cavs sign him to full max. Where did I go wrong here? Everywhere?

I'm not sure if this was directed at me. His cap hold would be pretty much the same as his salary (maybe a little more), so they gain no cap space in metoo's scenario. If the Cavs were to renounce Lebron next year, they lose his early bird rights, so he would have to play three more years for them prior to being able to sign him for any dollar amount they please.

If I'm Cleveland I get Irving extended and keep Wiggins in the fold. Keep money to sign max FA next season. Keep maximum flexibility no matter what Lebron decides he wants to do. You can sign Love next offseason. If Lebron bolts, you have room for Durant too. There's no reason to mortgage everything just for Lebron, especially when he has kept maximum flexibility himself and hasn't gone all in on your franchise.

According to the CBA FAQ (#33) the Cavs would re acquire Lebron's bird rights after resigning him to the one year deal under the above scenario.

No, they can't. If they don't renounce him, he has a cap hold. If they renounce him, then he is like any other FA and they can't go over the cap to sign him unless he wants to take the MLE.
