Need help...Treasurer ran off with some money last year (1 Viewer)

Problem is its very complicated and I dont want to have a biased opinion. The main problem is 1 owner didnt get paid last year and after assuring me he would pay for this year he hasnt. Another owner just flat out hasn't paid after assuring me he would. A 3rd owner refuses to pay because he told the treasurer that ran off to keep money for buy in this year and I told the treasurer to send it all. He doesnt know what he was suppose to get for money last year and refuses to pay because he doesnt want to double pay even though no matter what the money isn't in the league one way or another.This paraphrase makes me seem like a "lazy or stupid commish" when I have been losing my mind trying to sort everything out from a very complicated situation.I put a warning in the thread title so don't open it or comment if you are not going to offer anything beneficial.Nov 3rd- Nobody is going to take the time to read through the details. I thought the commish is the treasurer? I know some leagues have two people with power to combat collusion, cheating, etc., but I didn't know leagues have treasurers?

Simple rule - No pay No Play. Anything else is a headache.
My league has rules in place to prevent this thing. If you've been in the league for 3 years straight you are considered a vested owner and your league fees are expected to be paid on draft day however an occasional exception can be made for special circumstances. In those situations league fees are absolutely due before the first game of the year and if no payment is forthcoming your roster is locked with everyone on the bench until your league fees are paid.For a non vested owner, league fees are due 2 weeks before the draft. No pay = no draft.

My league has a treasurer. It keeps things pretty simple for me. My league is a democracy and I don't consider myself the Commissioner but the League Secretary. Our treasurer handles all aspects of collecting money and distributing cash prizes. It works for us. It also helps that the treasurer is a founding member and is highly trustworthy. We have never had an issue regarding money in 8 years.

Then your league doesn't have a rule in place to prevent this thing.

I saw something a year or two ago (possibly through FBG) that offers a money service to avoid these situations in the future. I realize it doesn't help you out of your current bind, but may be worth looking into.
Bottom Line for the league to continue
1 - Figure out who is owed money (and how much)
2 - Collect all money from all current teams
Options
1 - Adjust 2009 prize pool to compensate for 2008 lost money (yes, unfair to '09 winners)
2 - Have those who did receive $ in 2008 return a % of their winnings as they ended up with an incorrect sum given the reduced prize pool.
3 - File a claim in civil court against the thief.
Bottom Line for the league to continue
