Neil Rackers "Fantasy Film" on NFL Network (1 Viewer)

I haven't seen this yet, but it sounds fishy to me. The ball not leaving the screen doesn't mean the video isn't edited.

Haven't we all seen the commercial where Dwight Clark drops "the catch," Jordan misses the clutch shot, Jeter doesn't quite make the play at the plate, etc?

I just saw it again on NFL Network. And you can see the flight of the ball on the first three kicks from his foot all the way to the upright, the fourth the ball does leave the screen. Until somebody has proof that was faked, I'm a believer. Even if the last shot was edited, 3 out of 4 isn't bad.
I have it on my dvr and I watched it a couple of times and it looks real to me as well. With that said you can do amazing things with video editing these days.

I also saw it and it looked pretty real. It was different from the commercial where LeBron James hits 3 straight shots in practice from the other end of the court. In that one the ball leaves the screen at the top of it's arc and re-enters before it goes in. The first 3 Rackers kicks remain in the screen from his foot to the upright.

I think it was real. I'm sure it took dozens of takes but I think it is possible.

I had the same argument with some of my buddies about this video of Ronaldniho.

this looks real to me too. I don't see how it could be but it does look real. I downloaded it from itunes and it looks a lot clearer there. I've seen Ronaldino play and that guy is good. The other video was hilarious though.

That's just actors doing that... that's not really jordan or the like.

I don't really have any trouble believing that this Rackers thing is real (even though I haven't seen it), or that that Ronaldinho thing is real, either. Give some elite athletes several takes and nobody there putting pressure on them and I think you'd be surprised at what they can do.

Of course, I also believe that the Tiger Woods golf thing was done in one take, and I believe that this was real and done in one take, as well.

Have you been to movies lately guys? Special effects are amazing. He spends less than a second lining up each kick. I mean, look how often kickers MISS from that range, shooting inside the goal posts. You really think he can hit the tiny cross bar, without lining it up like that? 4 times in a row? NO WAY.

Of course that is real... i mean the guy on the screen. The ball was added later. :lmao: The Rackers tape looks real but and either way I might spend $2 on him in an auction instead of my customary $1.

It sort of reminded me of that Tiger Woods commercial where he is bouncing a golf ball repeatedly off his club before he tags it in midair. Word was that someone just happened to be shooting this while Tiger was goofing off and it wasn't a scripted take and retake shot until he got it right.
The Tiger Woods one is real. I have video of the actual commercial, but Nike also made a video of the outtakes where he drops the ball, or whiffs the final shot when he pops it up into the air and drives it down the fairway. I also saw him doing it on a regular TV program (might have been a 60 Minutes interview or something).

Absolutely a fake.

He couldn't do that in 500 tries if they stood there filming all day.

ETA: yes, I saw it.

Here's a guy who's just as amazing as Ronaldinho!Ronaldinho #2

Here is how that video was done:

1. Ronaldinho does actually kick the ball, obviously. But not into the cross bar, most likely into orbit!

2. There is a guy who gives him back 3 balls. This guy is erased digitally, and so is the ball that goes into orbit.

3. A CG ball is animated in either Maya, XSI or 3D Studio MAX and synchronized to the actual ball when he receives it.

4. The CG match is done perfectly despite the fact the real camera is moving. This is done with a technique called Camera Matching. All the FX guys have to do is measure 3 or 4 points in the field so the animator can model them into the software and then those points are used to animate the virtual camera in the software by automatically tracking the given points in the video.

5. After the matching is done, refining comes. This is where the CG ball and any other virtual element is color corrected, blurred, etc to match the color, texture and illumination of the video.

This is done typically in After Effects, Motion, Shake or Combustion.

Hi ahrn,You're saying it's "absolutely a fake" based just on the fact of how difficult it would be? Or do you see something that makes it look fake?

It's an NFL Films production. Creating fake images is not really their speciality. It's not like these guys are Industrial Light and Magic or something.

Strictly on how difficult it would be. I could see if they had one ball and he said "I'm going to hit the right upright" and they filmed him taking one shot time after time until he hit it. Posting 4 in a row from 40 yards out -- I'd say give any kicker, the best kicker you can name(past or present) and he couldn't do it given 1000 tries. I agree that if it is a fake, it new grounds for NFL films. It wouldn't be that hard to fake it with someone who knew what they were doing. But I just cannot believe that it real. No way.

If it is real, I'll eat crow and then I'm taking Rackers in the first round this year.

Its a fake. They Just showed one were C Simms thows the ball into a bunch of Trash cans from like 30 yards out, and then hits the cross bar. At the bottom of the screen it says something like "making fantasies." It is, I am sure, going to be a series of commercials featuring different players doing crazy stuff, much like the Vick, and Lebron etc. commercials of a few years ago.

Agreed, having seen a couple more of these they are all clearly fakes. Too bad would have been up there with Randy Johnson smoking a bird with one of his fastballs.

Have you guys seen the Braylon Edwards one? He blindfolds himself and talks about how receiving has nothing to do with his eyes, but all about feeling the ball. As he's talking about 4-6 balls are launched his way. He even catches one while bent over backwards.

Pretty good one, but why BRAYLON EDWARDS?

Fitz would've made more sense.

You don't think an NFL QB can throw a ball into a trashcan from 30 yards out?J

I can't believe I'm the first to say this but there's a big, big difference between a practice kick and a live kick. Specifically 11 pissed off dudes in different jerseys.

I have no idea if it's real or fake.

I was excited to see this until Comcast (soon to be Time Warner) took NFL Network off the air unannounced.

So who offers NFLHD and Fox Soccer cheap?

I'm with you J, I think I might be able to sink it in a trashcan given enough tries.I've see the spot with Rackers, that looks real to me though I am not exactly a video CSI.

OK, after seeing Braylon Edwards catching passes blindfolded, in the same series of commercials, I'm convinced the Rackers thing is fake. Fake or not these commercials are pretty cool anyway.

Fox Soccer? Man, A&M has changed... I bet you were in a frat too :lmao: Serious answer though is DirecTV is your friend.

Exactly secret. Same with the passes in the trashcan.J

You think it's real or fake, nag?J
Without a doubt a total fake just like the soccer video with the Brazilian dude. Rackers couldn't make those 4 kicks in 100 tries.

I thought that commercial was tight. What was even funnier, after the spot aired, one of the guest analysts on Total Access (I can't remember his name but he used to play for the Bengals) said Rackers should be good at hitting the uprights - he did it alot when he was a Bengal.

I thought that was pretty cold. :lmao:

I think this explanation covers it pretty well. The LeBron commerical was almost identical in concept to the Rackers commercial, and the LeBron commercial looked very realistic.

I don't think anyone can (or should) automatically believe anything they see in video or pictures anymore (thinking of war photos, political photos, etc...).

From the link on the Cardinals home page:

Arizona Cardinals kicker Neil Rackers is featured in one of the new NFL.com Fantasy Files campaign spots. The campaign uses raw footage of NFL players doing extraordinary things as they attempt to showcase their special talents as evidence of why fantasy coaches/GMs should select them in their upcoming fantasy football drafts. In this spot, Rackers is seen intentionally clanging four consecutive kicks off of the left and right uprights from 50 yards away, after which he says, "You need a kicker, right? Pick me." The spot ends with the note "Everybody has fantasies. What's yours?"

NFL.com Fantasy Draft Week will run from August 28 through September 4. The Rackers spot, as well as several others featuring NFL players, will reside on the NFL.com Fantasy Draft page in the coming weeks along with player rankings, cheat sheets and NFL.com expert analysis on trades, hidden gems, sleepers and rookies to look for.
Now obviously, everything you see on the internet (even on an NFL Team's official home page) isn't true. But interesting.J

This reminds me of one time when I was watching that show "Pro's Vs. Joes" or whatever the name is. One of the challenges was they had to throw footballs through these little windows from about 20 yards out or so. The pro was Jim McMahon. You actually took a snap from center I believe and you were wearing a helmet. Anyway, McMahon nailed all 5 of them in like 6 attempts...pretty damn impressive. The "joe" guy got up there and he got all of them in about 9 attempts. You could tell he was an athlete but pretty good for an average joe nonetheless.I think something like this Rackers thing could be real. Due to it's complexity it is highly unlikely, but could be real.

Anyone who honestly believes the Rakers video is legit has probably not played a lot of sports. There is absolutely no way anyone could do that in a million takes. Maybe one kick off the upright from that distance on a good day, but never 4 in a row...or even two in a row. He would have kicked until the film ran out or his leg fell off before he could have pulled it off. It would be ridiculous from PAT range, much less 40 yards out.

Occam's Razor. These days it is infinitely easier to fake that spot with video editing tools than it is to actually hit the uprights four times in a row; the simplest explanation must be true.

For those who haven't seen the NFL.com fantasy videos, they have all three of them to view (Rackers, Edwards, and Simms).

It's amazing what a little video editing can do.
That seems to be the same commercial I was familiar with, are you pointing me to some new material I can't seem to find? What are you showing us here? Not trying to be a wise butt, just not sure.

Besides the Rackers spot and some soccer clips, there wasn't a link to all 3 of the fantasy videos. Just thought that I would share the link for those who haven't seen all three of the clips yet. That's all.

What NFL kicker can actually rouse a crowd during a practice? The one who converted a league-record 40 field goals last season while missing only two: Neil Rackers. A Cardinals staffer videotaped Thursday's practice from a scissor lift that placed him high between the uprights. Rackers boomed a long field goal that forced the camera guy to duck to avoid being hit in the noggin. The crowd roared. To show the pinpoint accuracy wasn't a fluke, Rackers, who last season made 6 of 7 from 50 yards or longer, booted another ball - within inches of the hapless video guy. But the Cardinals hope that improved red-zone plays keeps Rackers from scoring 45 percent of Arizona's points again.

An old blurb from the Pro Bowl

Is there a better definition of "easy job" than "Pro Bowl placekicker"? The other day, Neil Rackers, the former Bengal and current Arizona Cardinal, spent his workout time trying to launch a kick into the set of the NFL Network, at the ocean end of the practice field. On Friday, Rackers took aim at a row of portable toilets, 70 yards from where he set up his tee. Footballs bounced off the porta-potties like hail off a windshield.

Yes it look real as hell but its fake for sure.

Not only do they have a Rackers commercial but they also have one for Braylon Edwards blind folded and one for Chris Simms throwing 60 yard balls in trash cans all over.
