I haven't bothered to read this entire thread, but very few people in the media have explained why "the play" is being talked about over and over again.

NFL officials make bad calls or miss calls all the time. In the game on Sunday, some were made that favored the Cowboys and some were made that favored the Lions.

In some cases, when a bad call is made... officials get together, discuss it, and reverse the call on the field immediately. If that had happened in this case, there would be some outrage in Detroit by fans who felt they were wronged... but not to this level.

In this case, you have a call made. Whether it was the right or wrong call does not matter. The penalty was called... THEN IT WAS ANNOUNCED TO THE ENTIRE STADIUM WITH 15 YARDS MARKED OFF ON THE FIELD. THEN... SOMEHOW... ROUGHLY 20 SECONDS LATER IT WAS REVERSED WITH NO EXPLANATION WHATSOEVER TO THE CROWD AND THE HEAD REFEREE WOUND THE CLOCK TO RESUME PLAY.

In 30+ years of watching NFL football, I've never seen anything like that happen. Has anyone else?

To continue my final thought... when it was 4th and 1. Stafford spent the first 5 to 10 seconds of the play clock arguing with the officials. The coaching staff was probably prepared to run a 1st and 10 play from the 30 instead of a 4th and 1 play. Rather than calling a timeout to get a proper play call, they decided to try to bluff the Cowboys offside... and it didn't work.

Basically... on top of the precedent setting way this call was handled... it prevented the Lions from possibly going on 4th and 1 without taking a timeout. Would they have gone for it anyway? I have no idea... maybe not. We'll never know

One thing I can say is that I've never seen another play handled like this by NFL officials in any game. EVER

Is there a rule that a call cannot be overturned after announced? If not, you all acting like some obscene injustice occurred just sound desperate.
Provide me another example in the last 30 years where it was announced, the penalty was marked off on the field, and then reversed. Like everyone on this board, I watch a lot of football... and have never seen it happen. EVER. There's no rule... but it just doesn't happen.

I doubt it. Pete Morelli officiated the Vikings Saints NFC championship debacle. This game wasn't even close to that one.

People don't care about that stuff I guess. It's more important to brag about picking a 7 point home favorite that still barely won a close game.

Good point that he ran the clock with no announcement of what just happened and ended up in a 5 yard penalty.

How are these officials not fined?

bromigos i was on the fence about this but now that people have started bolded and underlined stuff i am ready to make a decision thanks you crazy bolders you have saved the nfl take that to the bank brochachos

We all know it was handled poorly. But, now you're blaming this on how the Lions handled the 4th down? Come on man.....Maybe Stafford shouldn't have spent so much time squwakin at the refs.

He would've squawked earlier, but he had to wait until Dez Bryant was done.

Watch the video and listen to the announcer.
What's your point? Just because the announcer didn't see the flag come out right away doesn't mean the flag was late. There are countless instances where the flag comes out MUCH later than this not to mention they don't get picked up.

P. Simms says the Lions are happy now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but they are still out of the playoffs I don't think this makes them feel any better about.

Lions are still out of the playoffs, and the team that benefits is the Packers. This isn't a happy thing for Detroit at all.

Please stop. Detroit did not lose because of this call.

I'm a Cowboys fan and I won't blame our loss on the Dez call even though I didn't like it. We lost the game and GB won it.

Get over it.

....I am a Cowboys fan

No Way!

Calls aren't comparable.

 The refs caused those 6 turnovers?
No but it doesn't change the fact that game set the bar for the worst officiated game in the playoffs and there was little consequences for the officials involved.

Where did I say anything about the call in my post? I'm just saying that the Packers winning isn't some sort of moral victory for the Lions.

You are correct. I was being a doosh fan and didn't read it all. I apologize.

Lions fans are from the school of misery loves company. This is like the Super Bowl for them. Not that they would know what a Super Bowl feels like.

No, our Super Bowl is the NFL Draft, thank you very much.

First 3 rounds I expect them to draft at least 2 tight ends.

1st round DT to replace Suh and/or Fairley, 2nd round RB to replace Bush, 3rd round WR because they're thin behind Calvin and Tate, 4th TE, 5th OLineman so they can say that they addressed the problem

/not want i want, but about what I expect.

what does the video show?

What if the Cowboys lose due to that flag? It woulda been a bad call that influenced the game, imo. It wasn't PI, unless you wanna call facemask on Pettigrew. Faceguarding isn't a penalty in the NFL.....duh!

He has a hand on his shoulder? You act like this is a smoking gun. It's Football hun.
:lmao: This can't be real. Can it?
Yup.You can post a few more :lmao: to try and feel better though.
I'll just wait for the Cowboys to choke out, and come back and say hi to you then tough guy. :bye:
No problem, yes we likely won't win the Superbowl and if stopping by after we do lose to troll me (in a game that doesn't involve your team) will make you feel better....then by all means feel free to do so. I assure you, I won't be crying and carrying on about 1 call when my team had multiple chances thereafter. I get it, it was a debatable play...it didn't go your way. Reminds me of the game I went to in Detroit last year. Bunch of us there in Cowboys gear being given a hard for nothing. Guys yelling at kids wearing Romo jersey's

#stay classy
Can anyone guess who is crying and carrying on about 1 call this week?

There is no crying or acting like a Lions fan saying we lost because of the Dez reversal. Twist much?

I am debating the call and a controversial rule. Stop pushing your Eagle bias and trolling. It's beneath even an Eagles fan....oh wait...
